QUOTE(Eiraku @ Sep 19 2010, 12:48 AM) @the guys: Thanks, I might not go for the N900 again right now simply because I like to wait for the N9 to be released first - see how the specs are. It's highly likely that MeeGo device will be launched this November & start shipping Q1 2010.Are you willing to wait that long? And if Palm does good with the new Pre, asso no problem. Depending on MeeGo reception on entertainment market I might get iPod Touch 4th Gen.I'm getting really bored with the lack of games in Maemo/Android. Former Palm Design Guru Assesses iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7
http://blogs.forbes.com/elizabethwoyke/201...indows-phone-7/ QUOTE In his new post, as the head of “user experience” for Nokia’s Linux-based operating system MeeGo, Skillman plans to use a Nokia phone. His first device, he said, will be the high-end N900. This guy is talking sense. Added on September 19, 2010, 12:38 pm QUOTE(chicaman @ Sep 19 2010, 12:27 PM) depends on ur usage lo, very subjective question Battery normally last 24 hours with mild usage. For me, when I use Maemo, the battery last longer than NITDroid OF course batteries don't last long in NITDroid if you play games all day long. Maemo's QT port is complete now.So I expect there to be PR 1.3(hopefully) It's also highly likely that MeeGo(beta edition only) will be available for N900(including closed component). |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 22 2010, 12:58 AM) It was mentioned during one of the interview session with someone in Nokia. The OVI Map will be ported to MeeGo. Once everything is done, they will see if porting to N900 is easy, if yes, then yes, if not, then... what? Maemo who? This is the perfect opportunity to prove that QT indeed made porting apps easier.Recently Nokia just completed transferring Maemo source code from GNOME to full QT.If what Pornima Koochikar said in Nokia World 2010 is true that writing apps in QT saves 70% work, then we should see OVI Maps ported to Maemo shortly after MeeGo is released.Even though Maemo look forgotten, there is actually some work going on related to it.Just what the heck the people who are involved in Maemo doing right now, nobody knows. QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 22 2010, 03:14 PM) Added on September 22, 2010, 3:20 pm If you can wait, sure wait better loh. Later come out MeeGo device you regret too late already, unless you have extra cash to spend. But, wonder how long need to wait only. When will launch? End of this year? Next Year? If next year, when? January? April? June? Nobody knows. Consider how long you can wait and decide. The MeeGo device most probably will announce later during MeeGo conference or something. Let say they announce will launch in January 2011, you still need to consider when will launch in Malaysia. Like N8, recent update seems like it will only launch around end of October in Malaysia. Previous I remember is early September, then change to early October and now end of October? Since no official date announce by Nokia, we just can wait. Whatever it is I'll check the hardware list of N9 before deciding anything. If I see anything less than 1GHz processor & 512MB RAM then I'll just close my browser tab & forget about N9. |

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Sep 22 2010, 04:51 PM) Yay, LoL; There're also some MHF players here I think, including MGS 1Ghz processor & 512MB is just the absolute minimum requirement I expect.Of course for a high end smartphone I do hope for a higher performing hardwares.Only play the PSP version MHF though; Somehow I prefer MHF1 as it's more simple, lol, in other words, I'm weak, haha Yea,... but 1Ghz and 512MB RAM is not enough... By the time they launch, it will be next year, where people start to haev 1.5Ghz or Dual Core ARM... As for RAM... the Desire HD already have 768MB. I think if next year they're planning to launch... the spec must meet the specs during that time... |

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Sep 22 2010, 05:30 PM) Hmm.. So very true. Finally somebody with same sense as me.I do think a properly implemented OS is more important than the hardware spec.In this section Froyo is certainly good because it perform well in multiple devices with low to high performing device. But I still hold to the time honoured sayings of the practical technophile (read: somebody poor enough not to be able to afford the latest bleeding edge). For one: "It's not the hardware, it's how the OS uses it" (also known as "Specs isn't everything". If Nokia can bleed our eyes with crazy heavy multitasking capability with no lags, UI fluidity and superior memory management in Meego on 512MB of RAM to make the Desire HD's 256MB advantage irrelevant, more power to them. Although, looking at their track record, that's highly improbable lol. As long as the specs (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO EDOF CAMERAS OR YOU'LL LOSE ME FOREVER NOKIA) and Meego doesn't turn out to be complete crap though, there's still a high chance I'll get it simply for USB-host and 64GB flash innards alone lol. Plus, the only other thing with slide out QWERTY due out soon will be the Desire Z and THAT one only runs at 800Mhz lol. And really, what's this sudden drought of new hardware QWERTY phones? Samsung, where's the Galaxy S Pro? Palm, where's the Pre 2? The E7 skips my list SIMPLY BECAUSE NOKIA DECIDED TO STICK THAT CRAP EDOF CAMERA ON. But as you know MeeGo is just going for v1.1 next month.I don't think the OS will be all that polished. So it's good if the users have capable hardware so if in future there is newer MeeGo then it could be updated in old devices & the device itself still can compete with newer device. About DesireZ,yes it's running 800MHz only. But there's a catch. It's using vanilla froyo which make the operating the whole phone lots faster. |
