To be honest, you would need more than that amount for proof of finance. The tuition fees alone amount to GBP 20k, which is about RM110000k. You will need to show enough funds to cover for your living expenses too.

My advice is read the guide thoroughly and try to plow through the jargon!  biggrin.gif

You will be working as an officer in one of the departments and serve your bond period. Thinking of paying off the bond? Not so easy nowadays. Not only the amount spent on you but penalty and other damages.

I see. Thank you!

hsbc have branches in both countries, but they are still different banks, and the usual charges apply....

it doesn't matter what bank....just use tt/banker's draft for fast/normal funds transfer....drafts you need to send over physically, easily done with registered mail, takes about a week....only cost rm5, and no charge on banking in...

Dear all UK lowyat buddies.
i need to transfer about RM100k from Malaysia to UK to buy a property (as deposit). these are my own money.
what is the best way to transfer?
i did some research as below.
a) buy bank draft when i back to Malaysia during CNY
b) sign up HSBC advance in UK and Malaysia, then transfer?
(do i have to maintain minimum balance in both Malaysia and UK)?
c) TT from maybank2u to UK bank account (HSBC charged me £12 for processing!!)

another problem is, Malaysia government limit how much money we could bring with us (during travel out from Malaysia). how you all solve this?

thank you.

buy a bank draft and bring it with you back to uk....

the bank will want to know why....just tell the truth, investment....no problem is you do not owe money in msia....

restrictions only apply to CASH....not other instruments....

Hi,

I need to transfer some money from HSBC UK to HSBC MALAYSIA via TT over the internet. Need to find out whether I need to put the account code into the account number
i.e : MYHBMBXXXXXXXXX or XXXXXXXX (x denotes account number)

Many thanks!

Hi guys! anyone here knows where to get cheap apartments or rooms at London city center? Im going to study there soon.. I've look my university accommodation and it seems like extremely expensive like 200GBP per week. Any idea where to look for cheaper and PCM rental?
And some stupid question, I saw there's many ads about twin sharing apartment 300GBP is it 300 per person? 2 means 600?

In London? It's most probably 300 per person. That's actually very very cheap for rent in London, so I doubt it's the actual price for it.

hi there 200gbp its cheap if it is in central London... i mean zone 1 - im not sure whether your uni is in zone 1 as you did not specify.... usually its about 250-350 per week i think and this could be bills excluded too!

you can get some price guide on here:

http://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare/?search_id=214130625&

there are more websites to look for accomodation but i cant think of any at the moment...

so the advert said twin sharing apartment 300gbp? it is not clear, if in doubt you could drop them an email and ask? as last time my friend was confused - double room but it does not mean 2 ppl can share the room.....

good luck for room/house hunting. it is a pain but if you have questions and doubt please shout smile.gif

agreed with your comment. usually 300 +/- is the standard price unless one share a room with another person... london is so expensive really! when you compare it to other cities or towns perhaps one months only cost you 300 +/- for a room but in london 300 +/- for a week and could be bill excluded!

couldnt of any help as not from any one of the uni there... but in the uk i think it is important to graduate from high ranked uni? as employer prefers that (consider if you want to stay here for getting some work experience?) .... but you also need to consider lots of things - like living cost, tuition fee, career assistance provide by the uni etc etc...

even if it's just middle ranking university in UK (check Times for the ranking table), it's still way better than local pasar uni la... biggrin.gif If you feel confident about getting good grades (like 2:1) and can afford it, studying in the UK is no brainer.

you will notice the difference between you and local university students after you've actually studied there, it's the experience of being educated in first world country, the social skills you learn from being with same intellectual group, and an independent mind fostered by living alone in the cool, cultured country.

only advice for prospective students in the UK is to equip yourself with good command of English (take the IELTS exam) and toughen up a bit (physically and mentally) so that you can fully enjoy the education life in the Great Britain of the Queen.

Make sure you travel in Europe and visit as many artistic and aesthetic cities as you can. After all, it is the hotbed of contemporary arts and leading civilization (democracy) wub.gif

well, 175 pounds i think it is cheap - convenient you need not to pay for transport to travel to uni, save time/money, i believe there will also be someone to clean your hostel's kitchen / room as well (different uni i think provide different services ...) .... if you want to save the hassle to look for accommodation while you are not here yet you could probably live in uni's accommodation for 1st year then end of 1st year, looking to live with friends etc at somewhere else in london? had a look on google, your uni is in zone 2 - can imagine it is not cheap if looking for accommodation in this area.... i think some uni is only reserved accommodation for 1st year student so you might need to live off campus after 1st year anyway (unsure again, diff uni diff policy)

London is so expensive.... previously i studied in south east of England, i chose to live off campus because on campus was about 1000k gbp per year more expensive ... but at that time i was not in England yet i looked for accommodation while i was still in Malaysia, doable but some hassle there .... you just need to be strong haha if money is a big issue blush.gif

thumbup.gif thumbup.gif completely agreed with you... it is even better if you could stay here to work for a year or two... but nowadays it is not so easy to look for job, really!

the chance of an international student staying back to work in uk is now almost nil....due to current eu rules...

there are exceptions, where the course mandates that the students needs to undergo a period of work for completion....and this bypass the eu rules as it comes under the tier 4 student visa....

these people, by virtue of having worked, stands a much better chance of getting a tier 2 visa after that to continue working....compared to a fresh graduate...

indeed. most of the employers really they would rather employ EU citizen than outsider unless you have outstanding results and plenty of relevant work experience else it is nearly no chance sad.gif
