hsbc have branches in both countries, but they are still different banks, and the usual charges apply....

it doesn't matter what bank....just use tt/banker's draft for fast/normal funds transfer....drafts you need to send over physically, easily done with registered mail, takes about a week....only cost rm5, and no charge on banking in...

i did the TT from Maybank (maybank2u) to HSBC UK (basic account) last September 2014
HSBC charged me £12 to accept the TT!! cry.gif

now, i would rather withdraw the money with my maybank ATM (yellow ATM card, not Visa debit card) at HSBC (UK) ATM machine then bank in my HSBC account. Maybank charged me RM12 per withdrawal only.

do you mean, if i buy the bank draft from Malaysia, and bank in at HSBC here, it cost nothing for the banking in?

Dear all UK lowyat buddies.
i need to transfer about RM100k from Malaysia to UK to buy a property (as deposit). these are my own money.
what is the best way to transfer?
i did some research as below.
a) buy bank draft when i back to Malaysia during CNY
b) sign up HSBC advance in UK and Malaysia, then transfer?
(do i have to maintain minimum balance in both Malaysia and UK)?
c) TT from maybank2u to UK bank account (HSBC charged me £12 for processing!!)

another problem is, Malaysia government limit how much money we could bring with us (during travel out from Malaysia). how you all solve this?

thank you.
