QUOTE(schmeichel7 @ Sep 2 2010, 10:29 PM)
I remembered that Bill was best buddies with Sir Matt Busby. When Bill passed away, Sir Matt was so devastated that he didn't pick up the phone when the press asked him about Bill's death and he moved out temporarily from Manchester to avoid people asking him about it.

Shankly was so humble and noble, he praised his buddy Sir Matt as the greatest manager ever (source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmqbKBl22CA). But to me, Shankly and Busby (not to forget Paisley, Nigel Clough, Don Revie etc etc) all fall under the same category as being unique and great.

I read a book about Shankly and was amazed on his quotes, his philosophies and also on how he manage to build a club from nothing (sorry to say this) into European Kings and laid everything for Paisley to build that great Liverpool team.

Happy birthday Bill Shankly..

Thanks for that. You are right, they were good friends and it just goes to show that rivals can have a great sense of respect for one another. Err dude, you meant Brian Clough and not Nigel eh? smile.gif

QUOTE(rushmode @ Sep 2 2010, 10:42 PM)
thanks for the story duke! i've read it so many times but i still them and smile. especially the story with the Balls.  biggrin.gif

maybe should be stickied?

Yeah the stories are truly heart warming and inspiring. Why do you think Rafa's trip to the bar, to watch a European game with the fans drew so much attention? Liverpool fans have deep appreciation for managers who are committed to the club and they didn't come more committed than the Shanks.

Carragher says Liverpool will struggle to win title

Jamie Carragher admits it will be "very difficult" for Liverpool to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool finished seventh in the 2009-10 campaign, resulting in the departure of Rafa Benitez, and his replacement Roy Hodgson has taken four points from his opening three games, leaving the club five points behind Chelsea already.

Though Carragher is reticent to suggest a title challenge is out of reach already, he does believe Liverpool will struggle to match the standards set by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

"People have said 'You've done this and that for Liverpool' but we've not won a trophy for four years and that is annoying me a little bit,'' Carragher said.

"I certainly don't want to go on another couple of years not winning one before I finish at Liverpool. I don't see any reason why we can't win a trophy this season or the next couple.

"The one I haven't won is the league but I suppose that will be very difficult this season going from seventh last season. But I see no reason why we can't have a good go and have a trip to Wembley."

Back to our team.  I'd be very happy if we can get back into the CL and quite elated if we manage to win something this season.  One of my worries is Gerrard.  He's been blowing hot and cold, and shows more interest wearing an England shirt than Liverpool's.

Come on RH, ... and come on you Reds!

honestly i dont blame him not if any real LFC player is getting tired or disillusioned by the the lies Liverpool have been dishing out of late.

Happy birthday Shanks, We abandoned you before but didnt realise the true impact untill years later.

You say you want to move away from the Masherano issue and yet you guys keep attacking him. I find it really disheartening that Liverpool fans adopt the guilty until proven innocent mentality. Makes us no different from other fans so please stop gloating and claiming that we are better or different. Masch is being crucified despite the real story not being known to us. He took a pay cut to join Barcelona so the situation obviously isn't as clear cut. Amidst all that has been said, he did say 1 poignant point, that Liverpool will always be in his heart. This tells me that it isn't the club he has an issue with, it's the management/board/new owners and if this is so who can blame him? We complan about the same thing each day, no? Purslow, Gillet, Hicks?

If it's true he refused to play and moved for selfish reasons, then fairplay but is there any? You may ask me if there is proof to prove otherwise but I ask you again, is this how we should treat a player that gave no less than 100% whenever he was played? That we should assume the worst of him and not the best?

Why should we "move on" from this issue anyway? It's current news no?

+1

Masherano throws his every bit into his liv games.

he doesnt have to prove any thing to me.

I love liverpool FC but I have also been disillusioned with the saga that some fans in Malaysia take in that everything is FINE & dandy with the club. WHat the boards or the officials says is god like statement. I know nothing is what it seems but I trust the body language/players not playsing for us or where the standing (LFC) lies is truly quite reflective of how things have gone so wrong.

SO go ahead some of you in believing we are still a steady ship (you probably can tell I dont feel the same sentiments).

YNWA can be a double edge sword to some, some can used that to their means.

I love liverpool FC, however i wont standby injustice will voice out at times. LFC never always got it right. back then the LFc board relieved shankly of his managers post. did they get it right?
they certainly thought so.

only years later we celebrated what Bill Shankly did for LFC, but Shankly was never the same again.
His heart was forever with LFc.

(Please correct me on this) As I recalled, Shankly wanted to retire early.. Board reluctant but accepted. The board got it wrong not to give Shanks a chair on the boardroom but did made the right decision to appoint Sir Bob as successor eventhough Shanks want someone else.

I'm sorry if I'm wrong

Still finding it hard to forgive Owen despite the years gone, but nevertheless it is a charity game - I don't think people should be booing in such events.

There, I was wondering why some people are so forgiving when it comes to Masch yet they cant do the same for Owen.Yes, no doubt Owen left us when we needed him and he had joined manu to make things worse but he did contribute a lot to the club, no? Masch left us when we need him too.He badmouthed the club after he left. What makes him better than Owen?I cant find an answer why a certain group of people can forgive masch and not Owen.

safe to say that, owen was bred from youth was promoted n became star for the team, he what the team n fans relied on, scoring goals,,when houliier departed, n came benitez, we hav arguebly, promising forwards,,cisse, baros, n owen,,everybody expected a good season, the fans was eager for the season to starts,,n guess what, out of nowhere, owen left the club n went to madrid..

mascherano really a nobody to be honest, he came to bpl as a sub player during his days wit west ham,,mayb rafa did him a huge favor by signing him n make him a regular,,but his desired to leave wasnt a secret at all, he said it several times that his family wasnt happy plus he earn arguably the lowest paycheck for his talent n u know with all his problem, he's bound to leave the club, n he did..

Me and frens particularly dislike Michael Owen since he moved to ManU. We started off our craze for football during Michael Owen's days , when he still has the nick of wonderkid, let's just say that he's basically our childhood hero.

It took a lot of time accept the fact that someone like Michael Owen ( which we take him for a rational and humble person ) to join ManU, it's like ur watching ur childhood hero turning into ur enemy.

TBH, I don't really hate any players except C Ronaldo. Not because he is a ManU, but because of his disgusting arrogance and trickery. Although I support Liverpool, but I do like some players in ManU like Rooney and Berbatov. I actually only hates some bunch of pathetic fans who never stops to boast and insult others, and tat's why I love Liverpool. The fans are very passionate but yet never loses themselves and shows respect to others (majority). rclxms.gif

for me in general, i kind of very upset seen him left for madrid,,but on contrary, i didnt mind seeing him playing for man u , there wasnt much left in him, so he wants to end his career with a league or 2 plus we also been given chance to sign him back which we declined, so option for him to choose club after that really shouldnt be our concern anymore..
