Guideline updated. See point no. 7

First of all welcome to this official thread for Celcom Broadband, a wireless broadband via 3G service. This thread is a place where all Celcom Broadband subscribers gather be it to show off their speedtest results or to rant. If you have anything related to Celcom Broadband which you would like to discuss on, do not hesitate to post it in here.

The Official Celcom Broadband Thread Guideline :
1) Do not spam especially with a zero value post. Example "Today's speed is bad", if you would like to say the speed is bad at least provide a screenshot of a bandwidth test result.
2) Do not treat this as a Kopitiam topic, serious offenders will be given a warning.
3) No flame baiting be it starting a flame bait or joining.
4) There are at times posts related to downloads via P2P programs, discussions on this must not go over the limits especially discussing on illegal/copyrighted materials.
5) Do not use any vulgarities or profanities. Action will be taken if you are found to have used any vulgarities or profanities.
6) Celcom Broadband agents and resellers are not to promote in here.
7)No one-liner reply. Make sure your reply is enough to help the enquirers.
8) Last but not least, be friendly and make this place a better one for everyone. smile.gif

Just now I'm having problem, the browser shows nothing (blank page although the loading was done) but i could connect to MSN.
Called the customer service and they said were having problems with their 3G or something but now i can surf the web like normal again, seems like the issue has been resolved.

I think that is probably a DNS server issue on Celcom's side. If I'm not mistaken, quite a few forum members reported similar problems last night.

I used to have Celcom Broadband D68 and I ended up terminating it since no point maintaining it when it is so slow. I now use BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) by Celcom and it is also super slow. Works great during non-peak hours. doh.gif

My place here in Melaka no HSDPA, I am on D68 but the speed I a getting is maximum with good downloading from the torrent, not to mention normal browsing. I am not checking the speed but all 15 mp3 with each size is about 3-5mb from the piratebay took about 15 minutes to complete, imo not bad at all.

meaning just data only, no voice usage is allowed.

Nothing to prepare, just bring along your IC.
If you havent use the modem for more than a year then you have to return it to them.

My experience :
before i upgraded to D98 from D68, i only get around 5-15kb, nearly everyday i call them to complaint, i thought my pc is infected by virus, after i upgrade to D98, suddenly really fast, the internet idle is quite annoying but now i can watch youtube without waiting 15 minute just want to watch 10 minutes video rclxm9.gif
But i have to say this, maxis broadband really fast compare to celcom, no doubt.

hope celcom continue to upgrade their service, if not i will call them to complaint more sweat.gif

celcom is having speed consistency problems in penang island now. always got stuck. the celcom customer service said network congested d can't use HSDPA network and asked me to use 3G(UMTS) only. but my modem E220 can't choose between HSDPA and 3G. now i have to surf the net in EDGE network. how sad sad.gif
*
me too, they suggest me to use UMTS only, HSDPA got problem but i faced this problem when using UMTS, so now I have to use EDGE ?? rclxub.gif

no choice. e220 modem can't choose between HSDPA and UMTS (both are considered 3G). need to select GPRS only from the menu. then it can jump to EDGE network (EDGE is classified under GPRS?)

Both almost the same. Equally slow...
EDGE is better than GPRS though..

I don't think there's extra charge for that, if you are using your Celcom broadband data-only sim card; the one you get when subscribing.

But i think if you use your mobile phone Celcom sim card, then, there will be extra charge. hmm.gif

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong blush.gif

Previously my connection keep on changing to EDGE and finally I figured out what's wrong. In the option of "Network" I realised mine was 3G PREFERED, changed to 3G ONLY and the problem is solved.

Even so, I try to refrain from watching Youtube because the streaming speed is just too "fast". Surfing the net is ok thou...and by the way whether it's morning or night for me the speed is still more or less the same, probably close to zero people is using celcom around my area..

Guys, few questions:

1. Youth package, is it still available for us to subscribe? Cuz i am now using rm68/mth, but the guy behind the counter said its unavailable anymore.

2. Do you guys have frequent disconnections? Mine frequently disconnects, i've noticed it occuring when i'm idle. If i'm idle for 30 mins or so, then its justified. But how about idling for 10 - 20 secs? sweat.gif Anything i can do to make it right?

1. Not sure bout the youth package sweat.gif

2. Some of us do facing disconnection. Perhaps you should try ping-ing to avoid idle.

Just open command prompt and type : ping -t www.google.com , <- or any website

Sorry, can't really answer your question.. Just based on my experience blush.gif

Penang island isn't small and perhaps your area is far from the signal tower and thus connection isn't that good as you thought. Frequent DC and re-dialing is seriously a very common problem for most of us (celcom user).

Dunno what really the cause is. Perhaps it's the congestion sweat.gif

This is not really a solution, but you can try to set your modem to auto-redial when disconnected. Like mine smile.gif

QUOTE
But what i do is, whenever we connect using the Mobile Connect/Mobile Partner (or you modem dialer software), there will be a new Windows dial-up icon for that modem in the Network Connections folder.

Whenever i want to connect my celcom broadband, i only use that windows dialer. I didn't use the Mobile Connect. So, cannot really monitor your usage. But after you dial using the windows dialer, you can open Mobile Connect to monitor your usage  nod.gif
If you did open the dialer software, you cannot close it using the normal close button on it window (X button, right, on top).
If you do so, your celcombb connection will be disconnected. If you want to close the dialer software, you must use the Task Manager, search it Process, and end it there. That way, your celcombb connection will NOT be disconnected.

To make it to auto redial, just right-click on that windows dialer (in the Network Connections folder),
go to Properties > Option and set you preferences  biggrin.gif

Must connect using the windows dialer to make it auto-redial when disconnect  nod.gif

You can even create a shortcut for that dialer and place it in windows Startup folder so that it will automatically connect every time my windows start  biggrin.gif

Never try that. But after i use windows dialer to connect, i once try to uninstall modem dialer software, but it also remove the modem's diver. So, the modem can't be used. No choice, i install back the dialer software sweat.gif

Perhaps it can be done, if we install the modem driver not from the dialer software (i.e. download from the internet) hmm.gif

Uncap day means? Can spam the internet as much as you want ah?  rclxms.gif
*
Uncap day = billing date. The day your usage will be reset; regain back 5 GB and your subscribed speed (if you're capped).

i.e. Your billing date is on the 20th of every month. If you're capped before 20th (use more than 5GB), let say on August 15, you will get back your subscribed speed (and new 5 GB) on the August 20<- your billing date smile.gif

OpenDNS DNS IP address:

208.67.220.220 <- primary
208.67.222.222 <- secondary

Open your modem dialer software > profile management setting > enter each above IP address in Primary DNS & Secondary DNS box respectively. nod.gif

If you use windows dialer:

Open Network Connections folder > right click on your modem, dialer > Properties > Networking > Internet Protocol ver. 4 (TCP/IP) > tick "Use the following DNS server addresses" > enter both IP address in the Preferred DNS server & Alternate DNS server respectively. nod.gif

Hope you get it. Not really good in explaining things sweat.gif

I just see everyone discussing the RM68 package. Is Celcom's RM48 package bad value? I am thinking of going for the RM48 package which is why I ask.
Thanks.

Assuming its the same as the Monthly Unlimited package (D68, D98,),
You will receive 2 notification: nod.gif
1 when you near reachly 2GB, and
1 when you ALREADY reach 2GB

my point is.. the new modem is a HSPA modem (zte mf190).. wanna see if this modem can get better ping time or not or your place has already upgraded to HSPA.

celcom broadband did announce they are upgrading their network at klang valley and johor to HSPA 14.4mbps from currently HSDPA 3.6mbps system

Oh I see. I live in Sabah.

Actually, my problem is this. I can't open this one site I always go, it kept on connecting and then timed out. I can open other sites smoothly. Just this one that I always go. I've tried using this modem at another comp and it is still the same. I'm still confused at this. It was alright the first times I used this new simcard and modem and then it won't connect anymore.

I was wondering if I should change the simcard. .____.

actually this is good thing about celcom. dont know by design or bug. trottling system sometime bocor here and there. some lucky user got trottled some dont. just enjoy while it last.

another good thing is celcom never block anything after hit quota limit unlike 'toot' operator.

they should let users choose via OCS, not hassle customers...
speed today is not really stable...fast...then slow...then disconnected, then repeat the same thing...

ironically ...full bar signal strength so definitely not coverage issues...

Not sure about that. Perhaps you can check at Celcom OCS website: http://www.celcom.com.my/onlinecustomerservice/

Create an account there, then you can check your account info, bills, etc smile.gif

Not really sure how to do that or whether it is possible to do that; CHANGE the number hmm.gif
But we can add NEW number to the existing account;
go to
Profile > Manage Profile > Add new number . But, Transaction Authorisation Code (TAC) is required to perform these changes. smile.gif

Today is 5th september and you have used 3.48GB. This means that you still have 1.52GB from today until 13th september before your speed gets throttled.

Added on September 5, 2010, 2:59 pmOne question guys, how do i check my number? Need it for OCS registration.

edited:registered already.just found out that my start date is 13/8 and ends on 13/9.throttle date on 5/9.no wonder last month i can use up till around 7gb. doh.gif what made me curious is i first use my broadband since 9/8.means celcom didn't charge me from 9-13 august.if i knew it earlier i should have use the broadband to the max during that period.

I've already change my billing from printed to e-billing, it's very easy. U just go to celcom center & ask the customer service person to change your billing to e-billing & they'll only ask u to fill up a form. Took only a few minutes. thumbup.gif

Celcom D98 nowadays.. once DL limit exceeded becomes 15kbps max.
Previously didn't slow like this even get throttled. For god's sake I'm leaving for Screamyx 4Mbps, more worthy than paying extra RM50 for additional 5GB in Celcom

IIANM, prorate is only for the first bill.
Your next bill will be only 0.97 + 2.00 + 98.00 smile.gif

D68 also got prorate, but different cost, less than D98 i believed.

bro never happened la, unless you have;

1. outstanding bills from previous months
2. you've exceeded your credit limit (usually happens if you're bundled with voice plans in which your total monthly will be variable based from usages especially on roaming usages)
3. sometimes they do sent some friendly reminders to ask customer to pay their bills to avoid congestions in their branches or agents, especially oncoming long public holiday (nanti customers complaint pulak nak bayar pun susah doh.gif . not specifically to say you need to pay on that time

i'm not biased but other operators are also doing the same treatment to their customers, in different approaches. trust me on this wink.gif

usually changes requested from customer especially when it involves changes on rates or montly package value requires written consent from customer itself. bear in mind that they are implementing it to protect your rights as the owner of that account (legallity). there are some instances whereby changes was requested by third party without consent from the rightful owner. they want to avoid this kind of scenario

saya dah jadi mcm celcom's customer service pulak nih hehehe brows.gif

are you using autodebit facilities? if yes, it should be no problem as mine i'm using it and automatically bills will be deducted from my credit card
another options is either you can remember you bill cycle every month so that you can make payments 5 days after it or sign-up for online customer service, bills can be viewed & printed as well as payment can be made there too.

when did you register your plan? recently Celcom have changed 68 plan offerings, new plan is with new speed of 512kbps (up to and on best effort basis) with 3GB FUP while for the existing customers (before the changes made) enjoys new speed as mentioned but maintained the 5GB FUP

call customer service and they will clarify on the matter

can ensure that existing customers before the upgrade is 5GB limit...coz my fren newly registered list 3GB limit on their FUP list...

and so much for double standard, and some people kinda ranted on these issues

so expensive bandwidth charges, if need increment...

thats what i'm enjoying right now. i have few SIM cards registered to both 68 & 98 plans. i did confirmed with Celcom that my current 68 plan is with 5GB FUP and increased speed. but bear in mind the speed is on best effort basis.

as your friend, he/she might registered after the new service being implemented. i believed the changes were made some July / August. call and ask the customer service and they will clarify further

correct me if i'm wrong, other operators giving 3GB FUP form day 1 unlike Celcom. i even asked them why they decrease the FUP but they replied that they are following other operators as standard benchmark.

Damn! Celcom should hire me nod.gif

concurred that as i'm also experiencing slow & intermittent connections past few days.
may i give you some tips, even though this is quite hassle, you may, at your convenience, to consistanly call customer service and complaint whenever your broadband speed is not up to expectations consistantly. as for my case, whenever i can't get connected for such a long time of period, i'll call them and make the reports. give your full details such as your location & time of service 'downtime' accurately so that they can do some investigations. remember to ask for report complaint number before your call ended and take it down. they will forward it to their technical team to investigate (of course, there will be some investigation time incurred and dont expect them to resolve immediately wink.gif )

i did some complaints (even until today) and to my surpise, their technician team visited my location with their own devices to check the signal strength, data transmission, etcs. most of cases resolved within 2 working days. (take note that this is my experience, not as their standard procedure)

can i use all my replies to be included in my resume to Celcom, just in case they want to hire Customer Service personnel? tongue.gif tongue.gif brows.gif wink.gif

please check with customer service, usually the registration fees will be credited to your account. again, please check and confim.

same goes to the returning of modem. basically for free modems giveaway, it will be subject to a minimal contract as they want to 'secure' you for a certain time of period. with that, they can cover the cost of free modem. standard practise among other telcos too.

about the RM20 unlock service, that is between you & the dealer. bear in mind if the modem faulty within warranty period, some manufactures (Huawei, ZTE, etcs) will not cover for that. they have some kind of tools that will enable them to tell either the modem have been altered or not. its your choice and again its got nothing got to do with Celcom, unless if advised by them (dealer or Celcom) otherwise.

more or less yes. biasalah, thats what we call business, to gain profit as much as they can.
you see, take some real cases as point for us to share, sometimes the extra services they offered are not related to celcom offerings. when the customer starts to have problems with their devices, then Celcom is to be blamed. and we will see all the bashing starts here and there. i'm not 'covering-up' Celcom entirely, but when i browsed the Celcom Broadband thread, i can see some of the problems are not Celcom related, except for the network & coverage issues, for instances, the extra RM20

take example on agents that says "Free Sim Card Bang! Free Register Bang!" kind of offerings we may see in major shopping centres (not limited to Celcom only). yes, the SIM card, the registration fee or even the modem are free, but only upon you sign-up on that particular day. there's nothing in this world is totally free. simple rule of thumb, if you want to register, bear in mind that will be some minimal commitment fee you need to pay, especially in your first bill. again my advice, if you want to accept this offer, ask them thoroughly what kind of offerings are they. what are the fees that we need to pay. if there's any doubt, call customer service or best even, walk-in to any of their branches and ask in details.

i'm taking the 'extra' kind of service issue that doesn't relates to Celcom directly.

nevertheless, my broadband basic D68 speeds today (speeds up to 512kbps, on best effort basis and 3GB FUP)

Hmmmmm, I just noticed something on my broadband and came into thought about it.

I was thinking if the sim number that I bought is granted limited access to certain sites or the data for it to receive would be limited. That's what I thought. Because I used Wifi from a learning centre and I can open the site I have been wanted to go.

Can anyone like clarify this or correct my statement on this?

you can forget about playing PS3 games with celcom bb ...... and even other wireless bb for that matter.

The PING is way too high....and when u play MW2, you'll get killed first before u even know it. When you watch the killcam, only then will you realise that there was actually another player infront of you.

For surfing, you can still rely on wireless BB....for games, fixed line is the best.

I know, cos I've tried P1, Maxis and Celcom.....currently with streamyx.

You will get straight away after apply.
It might take a few hour or a day after you subscribed for the service to activate.
Most modem are plug and play. Don't worry, as usually, there's driver included in the modem or in the CD included (if any) nod.gif

Can check on the printed bill... if any.
I don't think you can check the acc no on the modem (mine cannot).
Or, can directly call 1111 (from Celcom no. only), and ask. That would be quicker nod.gif

acc no eg: 8-digit (digit only) - 4324xxxx

check your coverage area at www.celcom.com.my/broadband.
alternatively sign-up any broadband plans and if not satisfied, they have 7-day's money back guarentee policy and you may return your complete modem to them, subject to t&c. check the details with their resellers

Celcom Broadband to Increase Monthly Bandwidth Limit to 10GB
Update 1: I have received confirmation from Celcom that the 10GB monthly bandwidth limit will be offered as a secondary add-on package on the existing package. It means that when you hit the 5GB limit within the month, you will be offered a secondary 10GB monthly bandwidth package at an additional price.

This however, is not finalised until Celcom makes the official announcement.

The speed is actually on best effort basis. sweat.gif

Depends on the coverage and network congestion in your area

Perhaps you can ask around, if you got any relatives or friends that live in you area that use mobile broadband of other ISP.
Ask their opinion smile.gif

Mine is RM98 subscription (modem CSL U-1) I use it in Taman Mastiara Jalan-Ipoh. that area don't have HSDPA bearly get 3G which disconnect frequently, usually use GPRS Sigh. But its a different story back in seremban my home town. I can go up to 1.3Mbps if lucky i get 2Mbps. I think there is no 3G service in Taman Mastiara. why aren't celcom install there. very frustrating. Any one knows which service is best there?

bro, piece of advice, you need to fully undertand the whole content of your bill before submit you complaint to MCMC/SKMM. else you will be the laughing stock either from Celcom rep or by MCMC/SKMM themselves smile.gif

BTW, my speedtest on Advanced plan using HP mini & built-in HP Connection Manager

bro, it seems like your SMS Content Services amounting to RM84 that got your bill more. you can acquire details of you SMS content received. either it was printed in your bill or you may get it from their customer service

other than that, the chargings are normal for first bill whereby they charged you pro-rated fee and advanced fee.

no other descripencies found in your bill.

ignoring the bill won't solve anything. towards the end, Celcom will consider it as unpaid bills and will blacklist your NRIC. again my advice, you may ask Celcom to provide the summary of what kind of service you received. if you have the evidence that you, at anytime, did not subscribe the said service, Celcom will definately cancel the amount and it is your right not to pay anything from the SMS content usages.

refer to your subscription T&C, you have 30 days from your bill date to make complaints.

i've done that before. icon_idea.gif

be firm on your complaint. ask them to provide the details of charges. if Celcom said that the said service was activated by you, ask them where is the proof, at when & what time. Celcom have the tools to check in details based from IMSI number.

if still not resolved, then you can bring this issue to the higher authority i.e. Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna and/or Suruhanjaya Komunikasi & Multimedia

OK. Registered my BB yesterday Rm100 plus modem for the RM68 plan.

The worker there told me that only need 1-5 hours, max 24 hours. After 24 hours still dint activate so I call 1111. To my surprise the guy said my IC no is not in their database + my simcard S/N also not in their database.

Tried calling the girl number on the receipt but the answer I got is "sorry, salah orang"

The company name is Nasaria Holding Sdn Bhd, a legal and authorised Celcom reseller according to their website. Will call tomorrow to ask for explanation.

yeah, definitely not just me got dc-ed frequently since last night..even my other friends experiencing something similar...

somehow it's like, if idle a while, like few minutes..it will disconnected itself..

so new "system" to disconnect idle users now??? coz when i tried to run "ping -t"..it doesn't disconnect me, as long there's active connection :s

I've been using D98 for 2 weeks now, the first few days still ok (I can get hsdpa and 3g quite consistently and the overall speed is good).

However, this week I can only get EDGE which its speed is crap!! it's connected on 3G and drops to EDGE within minutes. by the way my location is at Damansara, should have 3.5G coverage bah? why this crap!?!?!

Now I'm always on EDGE consistently, maybe I'll switch to Maxis Broadband which my friends claim to be better and more consistency in speed. Any comments guys? biggrin.gif

Actually I think it is really unfair. How can they (Celcom, Digi, UMobile etc) call their plans "Unlimited" while they limit bandwidth, volume, and access?

Is this kind of advertising legal? There are clauses about advertising in the Consumer Protection Act of Malaysia.

If only there was a class action suit against these ISPs.

FUP is a joke. There's nothing fair about treating your customers unfairly while reaping profits.

hey guys.i just found out this thing called Toonel.it's basically a software that compress the connection to save up bandwidth apart from bypass blocked websites.they claimed that it's good for people who pay internet fee based on the amount of data transferred and have monthly download limit.i haven't try this using my celcom bb yet cuz my bb already throttled but it works though to get to blocked websites.anybody can give it a try and share your experience?

i don't mind capping but if the line speed is still consistent. but what they did is NOT capping. it's more like they chop off connection after reaching the cap speed, making my transfer becomes 0kB/s. oh my gosh cannot tahan nih. everytime chop the speed some websites will not finish loading arrgh.

Yeah, Jack, they do cut it off.

But when they tell you the throttled bandwidth is 128kbps (not sure if it's kBps, but unlikely) that is 16kBps - I usually get 2-4kBps - then it should be obvious that you are not going to be able to do anything after the cap.

When you cap a bottle does liquid still come out?

Their capped speed is virtually = 0, so in other words we do not want a cap at all.

You never tried YES so keep the hate/dissatisfaction to a minimal.

Anyways, I'm agreeing with you on that. I'm a student and got capped after a 1 week for D98. Now it's usually 25kB/s max.

My area here ain't got any TM fixed line. I've very reluctant to get wireless bradband because of this. The pathetic capping.

Was going to consider DiGi but because there's less coverage here, I've no choice but opted for Celcom.

I'll tell you this for sure, the high speed 750kB/s I got is just a lure for you to download. So better restrain ourselves. It's quite agonizing for us heavy users.

Hey guys, just wondering, you get your speed back when the cycle of 30 days ends right?

I just signed up on the 6th of November and finished my quota 8 days later. Then yesterday I did a bit of settings from the modem and now I get my speed back. What's the cause?

So it'll be the same. I'm using Win7. All you need to know is the right stuff.

I'd been using the Celcom College pack almost a year now. Starting last week stability of the connection has been shit. Keep dc or suddenly no traffic flow. Solution is to either move my Huawei E1550 modem a bit(while connected to the USB port on my laptop) or shut the CelcomBB software down, unplug, plug in again and start the software. What's worse is that, the CelcomBB Manager has been crashing lately, showing "Not Responding" and I'd to close it and start it again.

Running Win 7 32-bit. Some people told me getting a proper USB modem instead of using the one they gave is better. How?

Celcom BB is ghey.

I've clocked the 5GB limit in 8 days and then 128Kbps kicks in.
The problem is (Not really a problem actually laugh.gif), whenever I reconnect, there's must be a random day where there's no capping at all.

I wonder if this got any effects on my bill.
I didn't pay for the extra bandwidth.

I guess I'll have to wait for my 1st bill. hmm.gif

Maybe you have run torrent apps background and it flood your bandwidth by seeding (uploading)....

There is no problem for put Data Only sim in to phone.
It just a normal SIM where Telco Limited or Barred the Voice/SMS usage.

Celcom broadband always switches from 3g to 3.6g and back and that always cause no connection. I use P1 Wimax no problem and yesterday I got "Yes" also no problem. We have a right to choose and potong whichever don't perform.

Just came back from Celcom centre to pay bill and just for a quick question, I ask a Celcom's rep if they has 3G/broadband package cheaper than RM68?

Last time I subscribed to basic package with my current account but deactivate it bcoz not really use the service. But now, I'm want to activate it again but looking for more cheaper option. So, the celcom's rep mention that currently they have Rm28, RM38 and RM48 package but for more details I have to ask at the counter. So, because I was in a hurry, I don't get full details.

Anyone here about these new package? Please enlighten me. RM68 is too expensive more me. Just for check email only.

Hi guys, I'm new with Celcom Broadband thing. Just subscribed today. That celcom ppl told me the 5gb thing only applies on download stuffs. Surfing/browsing websites is not counted.

But I read the lowyat page about the fair usage policy, it's more like bandwith thing. (I cant do much comparison as only celcom got coverage in my area and i dun have internet before the celcom broadband, new house area)

So, sorry if it's a noob question, meaning 5GB quota doesnt apply on download only right? It applies on the websites that u surf, video calls, etc?
