Hi guys,
This is a thread to explain your rig on playing SC2 and the outcome of the graphics performance so that people who haven't bought the game could expect what performance on what type of rig and also the current players can make a comparison on their rigs.

Mine is
C2D 3.7Ghz
2 Gig RAM
9800GTX
Using XP SP2

Can set all to ultra settings. AA must change at NVIDIA control panel for better graphics. For campaign, at times there will be a lil bit lag when got many units and in-game cut-scenes but so far, not a problem with that.

Loading time for campaign is normal, but maybe can improve if I have 4 Gig RAM.

Full ULTRA settings. Lag still present at certain highly densed scenes. Problem most likely due to the GC.

ultra settings,

30 fps on board hyperion, etc.
erm 30 - 50 fps in battle field? belum really cuba lagi. sweat.gif
last time during beta, it was 30 - 50 fps i think.

in my eyes, ultra vs high not really much noticeable difference so i am happy with high for better frame rate per second. biggrin.gif

yeah, i notice that the server management for SC2 is better than SC1 as the experience of lagging is very minimal.

I don't think 2G is enough, well, maybe on XP they do, but certainly not on Win7.

Added on August 4, 2010, 12:25 pmI play on

Athlon II X4 635 @ 3.45 GHz
2GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD4850
1920*1080, at first ultra, but later switch to medium, hard disk keep spinning due to lack of RAM

Mine

i5 750
2x2GB dual channel ram
2x1TB WD Caviar green in Raid0
HD4850 512MB

Ultra settings with 1920x1200 resolution in campaign, sometimes got lag, but only in some battles where there are many units.

As in multiplayer, it seriously doesnt matter anymore as there are many lower end machines in the net, and it also depends on which game you are playing, how many players, and condition of the internet and how well each players their pc/internet are.

So in short, just upgrading your machines for campaign might not worth it, and in multiplayer game, most likely the lag will from either other player or the internet slowdown.

My PC specifications:

Intel i7 920 - cooled by Cool IT self contained watercooler
Nvidia Geforce GTX285 - cooled by Artic Cooling tri-fan
6GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Played Starcraft 2 with the following settings:

Resolution: 1920x1200
Details: All ultra (where applicable)

Others: 4xAA (to try 8xAA when free)

In game fps: above 60fps at all times.

However, I had to enable V-sync as the tearing was really apparent during cinematic.

CB......I'm using laptop....and my Acer laptop only cost rm2.5k....compared to all of you who use desktop, mine sucks shit

NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
Windows Vista SP2
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz
4GB RAM

Can play SC2 at 1024x768

All graphic settings low, except for texture quality (MEDIUM), Terrain (ULTRA), Models (HIGH), Unit Portraits (3D), Movies (HIGH)

70-100 fps when building my base in Skirmish mode.

40-60 fps when I build my units and send them to the enemy's base.

30-60 fps when shooting, tactical nuke

70-210 fps when playing cinematics

20-40 fps when playing some single player campaign, example, "THE DEVILS' PLAYGROUND"

50 fps at most gameplay

I don't know why sometimes my fps goes up to 153 although I've capped my fps to 60, using the Variables.txt in my documents

After playing for one hour, the temperature is around 70 degree Celsius.

Intel C2D E4500 @ 2.75Ghz

Mostly high setting at 1920x1080 . FPS around 40-60 , big battle might reduce it to 25-30 .

Athlon II X3 425 + 4GB RAM + GT220 (supposed to be GTX470 la but having some rig problem. hehe.)

surprisingly GT220 can play at 1680x1050 (i let the game decide the setting) and it still looks really good, unlike games like C&C series, low details make things really ugly.

yes get a 500W PSU and the rest for a GC

looks like at least RM 300 for the PSU and RM 300 for your remaining GC

ASUS ATI 5850HD DDR5 1GB

Core I5 2.88ghz on GiGabyte (Insert Random Code here) <-- cant remember that shit.. hahah
Windows 7 64 bit

Ultra Settings, 1600x900
Graphics Settings (Windows) - High Quality
Direct X 11

Run smoothly with no issues.

Notable difference from Win XP SP3 - Graphics & loading times are almost halved.

I also noticed that SC2 takes up loads of ram, up to 1.7 gb in long periods of time. (8 hours of gameplay)
I started noticing lag/crashes after 10-12 hrs, notably because google chrome does the same thing over time. (was running a 4gb transfer and google chrome on youtube at the same time - oops!)
A simple restart of the program fixes the issue.

i bought a Sapphire HD5750 1GB GDDR5 Vapor-X just to make my SC2 playing experience better biggrin.gif

overall i'm quite satisfied with the price i pay thumbup.gif

i'm running on C2D 2.33GHz
4GB RAM (4 x 1GB KVR)
Antec TruePower 480watt PSU
2 x 1GB WD Black on RAID-0 setup
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

playing resolution on 1680 x 1024 with ultra settings.

game play is generally very smooth. at least more than 25 FPS when the screen has many units with activities. high FPS at 50-70 range.

so all in all quite satisfied smile.gif

Hi,
I like to share to following scenario, hope it helps.
My PC: PhenomII .1Ghz, 2 GB RAM, ATI 4770, MS Vista
Ran SC2 at first, framerate was all over the place and at the beginning of each level, it slows down until 2FPS.

What I did was:
1. Increase RAM to 4GB
2. Defragment HDD
3. Most settings set to High

Voila!! Loading is much faster, and the FPS never slows down at the beginning.
Running now average 60ps everytime.

Dunno if it applies to any of you, good luck

Playing starcraft 2 setting all max ultra using my rig. all smooth, the best part even with trainer you spam countless unit full screen its still not laggy.

core i7 920 @4.2ghz ht off.
6 gb ram ddr3 @ 2000mhz .
ati radeon 5850 @1gb core clock @ cat 10.7 beta (sc2 patch).
samsung 42inch @ 1920x1080.
dell 2707 @ 1920x1200 iddling displaying various program.
window 7 ultimate x64.
rest of the spec is at my siggy.

but on this configuration certain game have some issue as it doesn't support dual monitor hook up even though the other monitor basically not doing anything.lucky starcraft 2 is not that heavy.

maybe due to running at 1920x1080 hmm.gif

i5-750
4GB RAM DDR3
MSI R5770 Hawk Edition

maybe i should try OC it a bit laugh.gif

btw, does win7 32bit & 64bit affects the performance of the rig for SC2??
i'm using 32bit currently...

Check out my rig in my sig.

I didn't exp the G-card overheat because --- > My G- card is HOT all the time, always 65 - 75.

experience some artifact or lag when in game cutscene (not cinematic), perfect smooth during game play.

all highest setting, vsync on, 1920*1080 res.

Not matter what driver i install from 10.4 to 10.5 to 10.6 to 10.7 to 10.7a . I will get bsod, or crash or freeze within 30 minutes of play. 5970 fails lol. Anyway in the graphic setting section anyone get the suggested low on shadows and lightning and medium on post processing while others on ultra?

I wonder why they suggest low and medium on my 5970 =/.

All Single Crossfire cards (4870x2, 4850x2, your 5970) have neutered performance after 10.5 and above. Try using TWL drivers.

Hi,

i've been thinking to buy a graphic card to play SC2 (At least smooth at high setting)
It's just temporary 'cause i might upgrade the graphic card to a better one while crysis 2 release next year.
My budget is around RM250 to 350.
Any graphic cards to recommend? (I am thinking of buying used cards actually)
is 4850 a good choice?

Thanks.

That GPU could go Medium at most. Based on experience.

Nvidias new batch of GPUs should be better than the ATI equivalent. Maybe go for the 240 or 260? Dont know the cost tho.

Hi, just saw your reply.

Not sure about price dropping, because price for techs usually drops everyday/week.

I got my rig about 3k - 3.2k. not very sure coz i didnt sum up my whole bill. too bz starcraft now tongue.gif

Even with:

Intel I5 760
4GB DDR3
Palit GTX460 Sonic Platinum 1GB

there is a 1 rare occasion where my fps will drop 1fps... where the screen is totally filled with units. madness. @_@

When late game, with a lot of air units + ground units, my FPS will drop to 2-5FPS.. starts lagging then..

What do i need to upgrade to improve the performance of a 3v3 game?
I think 4v4 will be laggier on my current rig..

Upgrade your processor, faster core with higher cache MB might help

So far unless squeeze entire screen with units (both mine and opponents', esp when carriers release interceptors) or else perfect smooth all time.

my pc having some slow down during cooperative games, like 2v2 or 3v3, very noticeable when huge armies are moving, then a huge battle take place, the lag still there, but when those troops vanish, performance instantly improves, not sure what is the problem, but the starcraft tells me that im the one who lag. Dont understand why it happens, i dont think my pc is that low end compare to most of those players out there.

pc spec:
i5 650
2x2gb DDR3
2x1TB WD caviar green running in raid 0
Asus 4850 512mB GC
Windows 7 32bit(3GB ram usable)
Game graphic setting=low(seriously this is strategy game, i dont need that)
Resolution=1600x1200 or 1920x1200
Internet bandwidth=streamyx 1Mb(tested DL~1.5mb/s, UL~350mb/s)

me, with my 1GB DDR3 HIS ATI4670.
not sure if it's because of the card tho... might be caused by OS/RAM/CPU im not sure...

anyone not using ATI graphic card and experiencing the same issue?

Edit:
I also experienced PC hangs after quiting the game a few times without restarting PC..
Let's say after quiting and reentering the game more than 3 times for fb/surfing/msn etc, then when i run the SC2 icon on my desktop, it seems like SC2 is loading but the screen remains black color and CPU not processing. Ctrl+alt+del can't end the task. even if ended, when i try to run sc2 again without restarting, it will hang there again.
anyone experiencing this also? smile.gif

c2d @ 3ghz, 4gb ram, ati 4850, raid 3x 160gb hdd shud be more than enough to run sc2 IMO..

not even maxing my graphic setting yet.

The game is perfectly fine even in major battle of 4v4, the only problem I am having is tabbing in and loading time

Processor: i5-750
RAM: 2GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon HD5770 (overclock to 920/1380)
Win7 32-bit

1920x1080 all Ultra.
Frame rates are smooth, but drops to around 30+ when too many units.

However.. I got a problem. The game freezes and jerks when i start any map (even campaign and custom games) This happens for about 8 seconds. After that it becomes smooth.

Why does this happen?

I'm also having this problem on every game, when loading bar load finish dont press any key yet & wait until your harddisk led is not lit but only blinks, this always work for me as the game won't lag when starting. Maybe due to lack of ram as i'm using 2gb of ram, better get 4gb maybe can solve this problem.

i've tried playing with window mode full screen.
no problem with alt tabbing, only sometimes laggier in game when there are a lot of units, especially in 4s.
since ur pc can support better, u shd try that too... and im happy with that mode now smile.gif

Didn't check the FPS, but on Ultra Setting, a lot of jerky movements.
High settings a bit jerky but playable on Campaign, not on those mission that have lots of units.
Low settings is smooth, but massive unit missions will still slowdown the game including multiplayer especially 4v4

Resolution is 1280x768, 1440x900 can play oso but i reduce for playability in multiplayer mode.

Definitely need to change my mobo, proc and ram cry.gif

Asus G73JH, it's a beast machine and it's much cheaper than alienware for the same specs.
It's has one of the top notebook graphic cards "Mobility Radeon HD 5870".

My rig runs SCII 1920x1080 - all ultra, 3v3/4v4 match with disappointment. I think there is only around a hundred of units on screen, and the frame rates go down below 30?, playing low setting just give me a lousy 35-40fps.

I suppose this is 1v1 only game?

I played so many 1st person shooting games with considerable high frame rates per second. Unless my processor is the bottleneck, which is a shame of dual core hyper threading, not enough RAMs? or my slow HDD compared to SSD. Well nonetheless, planning to get another rig soon, and lets just hope it can perform this game can perform smile.gif

I'm using the Asus G73 gaming laptop.

Intel Core i7 720M @ 1.6Ghz (up to 2.8Ghz)
6GB DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon Mobility 5870 1GB

This laptop runs Starcraft II quite well. On Ultra settings I can maintain a stable 30-40 fps although it sometimes goes below 30 during large battles.

But it is a waste if he don't overclock his rig, with all the cooler he got, he can get to 4.0ghz without any hassles.

Huge lag with just FPS 1-6 with a custom map 3v6 ai. Almost cant click when there is a big battle! Using Ultra setting. Even make it to low, FPS 9-15. LoL. Any got this experience?
Map name An Uneven War. Any1 tried before?

Impossible to get FPS1-6, you sure its showing that amount? Press ctrl + alt + f to see ur fps.
If its true, flash the firmware to latest one.

no it cant run smoothly on Ultra, especially some parts of the campaign.

and m11x is a pain in the ass for high APM games like starcraft. you eventually will need an external monitor, keyboard and mouse to play...wonder how to micro units in a 12 inch o.o
