I'm interested in this router as well. Is this model a modem + router or just mainly router ?

do I need to pair it up with BTU device ? my usage is only the VOIP phone and internet.

so the setting would be Socket wall plug - BTU - Router - Internet ?

1 of my housemate abuse the "FREE ACCESS" by torrent 24/7.
i do have Asus RTN-16 at home, can i limit his bandwidth to 10kbps download and upload?

im using original firmware.

upgrade to the latest firmware if possible (AsusWRT).
Goto the "Traffic Manager"
Traffice Manager QoS = On (automatic mode)
Upload & download set to your internet packages speed (5,10,20Mb/s etc)

User defined QoS rules
service name: PC-heavyusage01
Source IP or MAC = Key in the PC MAC Address

Priority = Lowest

User-defined priorities
Lowest for both upload & download , min & max = 2% to 10%

Hey ASUSmy or any other helpful member,

I am currently using Maxis 10mbps Home Fibre. How can I eliminate the use of Thomson router if I still want to keep the VOIP Dect? Is there any cheap alternative?

Thanks in advance!

Hi tancyew,

Due to our routers don't have the phone port for the VOIP, so will need the Thomson together to make it work.

Thank you

Hi wengjoe,

This RT-N12HP is a stand alone router. You will need to pair it with the BTU.

Yes the setting are correct.

Thank you

forgive me for my lack of knowledge in networking.

if it is a standalone router, mean I need to purchase another modem to pair with it ?

I was looking something like what unifi is offering which is a modem + wifi router.

Thanks in advance for the answer.

Hi gkong3,

What you mean is, you want to make the RT-N16 as an access point?

Thank you

Hi ASUSmy,

I am not sure; I still want to use RT-N16 as a router; am just wondering whether I can connect a hub to it so that I can have more than 4 wired LAN ports (say 3 PCs, 1 VOIP ATA, 1 Astro STB + 1 NAS all wired up to the RT-N16 by connecting a network hub to LAN2 or something).

Hi gkong3,

May I know you want to use this for the UNIFI or Maxis Fibre Internet package?

Thank you

Hi ASUSmy,

Currently for Maxis Fibre, but maybe change to UniFi after contract period.

It's just that I have a lot of devices to connect up via wired LAN, so I want to know whether it is possible to have more wired connections if I hook up a network switch/hub to the RT-N16.

Hi gkong3,

If for Maxis Fiber, currently we unable to fully support the IPTV yet. And as for the HUB or switch, yes you can use it for other device such as NAS and PC.

Thank you

Hi Khalid21,

I have asked our RD, although our spec stated is 300Mbps, the 5Ghz is able to go up until 450Mbps.

So no problem on the data rate, it is normal.

Thank you

Hi ASUSmy,

When will the RTN-66 FULLY support Maxis IPTV?

I've raised this concern since end July (Post #1491) and after 4+ months, it's still not supported?

Hi theng_ye,

You can try do factory reset on the RT-N66U and try again. Below is the image where you can find the reset button.

Press at least 5sec and the power LED light will blink and then release. If it is successful, redo all the setting manually.

If you are still unable to log in, try restore the firmware using the firmware restoration tools. Below is the link to the step and video on how to do so.

Hi schizophreak,

Due to Maxis and Astro doesn't want to provide information on the connection and our RD has less technical information the setup also. Currently is waiting our RD to provide solution to us.

Sorry for the waiting.

Thank you
