Just want to say thank you to rizvanrp & pr0di9y, now I'm able to connect BTU [Huawei] directly with both the DIR-615 [for IPTV] & own router [for internet]
Especially to pr0di9y, for taking time to explain & educate patiently for junior like me Once again thanks bro! |

QUOTE(skyklg @ Aug 16 2010, 12:18 AM) I'm using Buffalo WHR-G300N with dd-wrt on it, connect to BTU without VLAN tagging ! QUOTE(pr0di9y @ Aug 16 2010, 01:55 AM) No problem klseet. I'm pretty sure many will like this setup! I will try to come out with a guide on how to setup the device and maybe pass it to rizvanrp for hosting. My main concern is I don't know if this is the kind of setup you guys would want with the fiber optic BTU (Huawei) to run at. For me is pretty much simple, I just want something to dial or get connected to the internet and do the VLAN tags instead of the DIR-615 without the extra hardware which I've already have. Now to find my MS Office cd... l o l... Added on August 16, 2010, 1:58 am Lol most likely download per month on international sites. That is why rizvanrp was trying to resurrect the DC++ so we can share / host files which we're already downloaded within UniFi users. Btw, I'm just thinking since my WHR-G300N able to perform VLAN tagging: 1 .Can I setup the PPPoE in WHR-G300N with WAN assignment VLAN2.500 and connect to BTU LAN2 to internet? 2. If yes, what setup do I have to do in BTU? Just remove the WAN-PPPoE will do? The reason is that I hope to use WHR-G300N to perform the NAT+Firewall and "less" burden the BTU. QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Aug 16 2010, 10:09 AM) What method did you guys go with in the end? If you're using the BTU to handle the PPPoE, the load for NAT and connection tracking is placed on it as well as the router you plug into it. The echolife uses its switch ports as a VLAN trunk for the DIR-615 to connect to. Basically, you probably might be able to wire a custom dd-wrt router into port 1 for PPPoE and wire the DIR-615 (stock firmware) into port 2 for IPTV. However, since you're using two devices here for each VLAN.. your IPTV may take a performance hit because it no longer has traffic priority. It's also not possible to do this setup on the older Fiberhome BTUs :3 Last night pr0di9y assist me to setup:What mode is the WAN connection on your WHR-G300N set to anyway, PPPoE, dynamic IP or static IP? It would be pretty awesome if its in PPPoE mode over the standard WAN interface without tagging because that would mean pr0di9y found a way to get the BTU to work in bridge mode 1. in the BTU, setup PPPoE profile & enable Layer3 LAN2 2. WHR-G300N WAN port setup as Static IP 3. didn't do anything on the DIR-615 [currently in Bridge mode setup as per your guideline] Overall connection as follows: BTU LAN1 --> DIR-615 WAN->LAN4 --> IPTV BTU LAN2 --> WHR-G300N WAN->LAN --> computers So currently the NAT and PPPoE dial-up all done in BTU, no VLAN tag require on WHR-G300N However, since my WHR-G300N is able to do tagging VLAN2.500, I'm wondering whether if it's possible to setup PPPoE dial-up in WHR-G300N instead of the BTU. I'm not sure whether I can just disable the WAN-PPPoE dial-up on the BTU ? |

QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Aug 16 2010, 10:33 AM) You could try and disable the WAN-PPPoE setup + layer3 port (basically revert back to stock settings), then plug your dd-wrt router with VLAN tagging enabled into port1 and your dir-615 into port2 for IPTV and see if they both can run at the same time. This isn't possible on the Fiberhome because its configured to only allow 1 device per port at a time but the Huawei may be different. Yes, you are right I'm behind double NAT that's why I wish to have NAT+firewall only on my WHR-G300NBtw, I'm curious.. this is one of the setups I assumed was possible when I was fiddling with pr0d's Huawei but never tried out. It seems that you're behind double NAT now? Basically you have 1 public IP at the BTU and your PC now sits 2 private networks away from that. Does port forwarding on the dd-wrt work at all? Actually before this, my setup was: BTU LAN1 --> switch hub --> WHR-G300N WAN [VLAN2.500 with PPPoE dial-up profile] ->LAN/WiFi --> computers ..................................--> DIR-615 WAN->LAN4 --> STB IPTV Ok, I'll try to disable BTU's PPPoE & Layer3, then connect as follows: BTU LAN1 --> DIR615 BTU LAN2 --> WHR-G300N [VLAN2.500 with PPPoE dial-up profile] This post has been edited by klseet: Aug 16 2010, 12:12 PM |

QUOTE(klseet @ Aug 16 2010, 12:09 PM) Ok, I'll try to disable BTU's PPPoE & Layer3, then connect as follows: It works as per above!! BTU LAN1 --> DIR615 BTU LAN2 --> WHR-G300N [VLAN2.500 with PPPoE dial-up profile] So it means we can just plug in our own router [PPPoE with VLAN?.500 tag] onto the Huawei BTU LAN2 directly! Now the question is how to configure the STB IPTV onto the BTU directly without having the DIR-615, is it possible? Hi Rivanzrp, Pls check your PM, I got some good news on RB250GS & RB750G for you ! QUOTE(billytong @ Aug 16 2010, 02:26 PM) Would be nice to have a guide for custom router to access Internet only, in the event of DIR-615 Fails. QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Aug 16 2010, 02:30 PM) http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=co...id=53&Itemid=65 Yes, with or without the DIR-615, you can get a cheap yet value-for-money router which support dd-wrt (eg, Buffalo WHR-G300N), then just follow Rizvanrp instruction, plug-in to the Huawei BTU LAN2, that's all! There is a guide for that (dd-wrt), just apply it to a Buffalo DD-WRT flashed router or something So the DIR-615 only use for IPTV purpose, when it goes down, no IPTV only but internet still on!! At this moment, it seem like Broadcom base chipset still having problem on dd-wrt VLAN tagging, I have tested Ralink & Atheros on Rizvanrp's method seem to work ok. You may also want to check the following information before buying: Routers which support dd-wrt, just type first few words, eg "Buffalo", then you will see the list: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database List of routers spec [may consider either Ralink or Atheros base]: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices |

QUOTE(billytong @ Aug 16 2010, 04:37 PM) Eh brother, must be strictly dd-wrt router? If you get the WHR-HP-G300N [Atheros], there is way to flash-back even to the original firmware.Buffalo also has it's own version of dd-wrt for this model [I believe it's from BrainSlayer also], but I would still recommend the BS's latest built. For WHR-G300N [Ralink], I haven't flash-back to original before, I believe should be no problem as well as mentioned here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=67659&start=45 QUOTE(mystiquemaya @ Aug 16 2010, 04:43 PM) Hi klseet, Hi, I'll try to write down the steps and reply you through PM as I'm not sure whether it's off topic to post here.I am trying to flash my WHR-G300N right now but I'm failing miserably (sorry I'm such a noob). Followed the flashing instruction on http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WHR-G300N and it seems that the TFTP I used installed the firmware (do I use the file labeled firmware or webflash? In my installation I used the file labeled firmware and renamed it to firmware.ram as per instruction) but after that when I tried accessing 192.168.1.1 it could not connect. When I accessed the default Buffalo's admin panel at 192.168.11.1 I still can access it. What did I do wrong? Thanks for any advice! QUOTE(billytong @ Aug 16 2010, 04:45 PM) Well btw guys, I just asked my friend who is using the retail DIR-615 he bought from shop. It seems to be rather decent router. Pretty much a complete opposite of Tmnut unifi DIR-615 that everyone else is experiencing now. If I'm not mistaken, DIR-615 from TM is G1 model running on it's own firmware for TM's UniFi.it is either Tmnet get the reject stocks of DIR-615 from D-link or their firmware screw up the router. Those retail outside I think it's D1, D2 model. Not sure whether the same or not, but I think might be different, otherwise TM no "special deal" with D-Link to provide UniFi customer "exclusively" liao .... QUOTE(d60x @ Aug 16 2010, 06:56 PM) May I know which "firmware" file are you using to flash directly from Buffalo interface? So far I haven't found any file which allow me to flash directly on WHR-G300N, currently I'm using the TFTP method [tftp2.exe], quite tedious though .... Appreciate if you could share where to get this file, thanks in advance! QUOTE(pr0di9y @ Aug 16 2010, 07:36 PM) Nope, I tried it today. Cannot make it to work. Hmmm, sound like no luck to connect IPTV directly to Huawei liao ......Or maybe you can get those same DIR-615 available on the market and try to use the TM special FW on it lulz... Btw, may I know where to get the TM special FW file? Might consider getting a market DIR-615 to test .... This afternoon, I just saw a team of 3 from TM bring another new DIR-615 to replace for my neighbour --> his UniFi just installed 1 day earlier than me!! And mine got replaced 2 days ago .... This DIR-615 from TM really tak boleh pakai loh..... This post has been edited by klseet: Aug 16 2010, 08:22 PM |

QUOTE(yushin @ Aug 16 2010, 09:05 PM) My DIR-615 has been working fine for 4 days when I am using it as vlan bridging. So I think if anyone use DIR-615 as vlan bridging, it won't break that easilly. When the TM ppl left my home right after they completed the installation, I immediately setup the DIR-615 [as per Rivanrp] since day1:Thanks to pr0di9y's guide, I now can connect my Asus RT-N16 router directly to the Hwawei BTU. Next will be on how to do the IPTV VLAN 600 tag... 1. as bridging mode only 2. turn-off the wifi 3. use AVR power supply 4. put on top of a cabinet with clear air-ventilation + notebook fan blowing on it Still, the WAN port died [others all still ok] on the 10th day...... Hopefully yours will last longer .... |

QUOTE(mystiquemaya @ Aug 17 2010, 12:00 AM) Tried the guide, but even after restart, the INTERNET_R_VID_500 still can't access to internet, except if I connect the cable to LAN1, which is the pre-configured port for DIR-615. All LANs have been checked at Layer 3. Any help is really appreciated, thanks! It's exactly the same setup as per Pr0di9y's guide which I setup with him last night, please go through again, note that Layer3 only check LAN2, others uncheck.Added on August 17, 2010, 12:05 am Hi klseet, I managed to flash the WHR-G300N to dd-wrt firmware with success! And currently can replace the DIR-615 by connecting the WHR-G300N to LAN1 on Huawei. Now just trying to make any LAN port from Huawei to connect to the WHR-G300N. Tried prodigy's guide with no success, unfortunately. Only LAN1 can be connected to internet, even though all LANs are checked in Layer 3. After that You need to setup Static IP in the WHR-G300N as follows: Actually may I know what's the main reason you flashed your WHR-G300N to dd-wrt? Pr0di9y's method can just work on almost any router without flashing to dd-wrt, even stock standard WHR-G300N can connect already, no need to flash dd-wrt. This is because the PPPoE connection is already setup in the Huawei BTU, you just have to setup Static IP on your own router will do. If you have some specific purpose/reason which you require dd-wrt, since the WHR-G300N is able to do VLAN tagging and the Huawei BTU does not block ports, you may consider setup PPPoE & VLAN2.500 tagging on WHR-G300N and connect WAN to the BTU LAN2 without changing anything on the BTU. I've just tested and confirmed it's working since this morning. QUOTE(auronthas @ Aug 16 2010, 09:31 PM) Not sure at the moment, seem like none at the moment ler, may be the market DIR-615 with TM's firmware will work?!Hopefully there are some solution out before the end of 1 year warranty period ...... Hmmmm, just wonder how the 1 warranty period count, is it from the day we signed up or from the date we get the replacement? Meanwhile, just use it kuat-kuat lah, hopefully can keep replacing until we get the more stable one This post has been edited by klseet: Aug 17 2010, 01:59 AM |

QUOTE(i_bony @ Aug 16 2010, 04:14 PM) i have just installed unifi yesterday, i also find that the signal is quite weak on 2nd floor. can i use my old belkin G modem + router? or must use only router only in this case? will the connection speed decrease or sumting? another question, i didnt managed to get the router access from the TM technician, can i just access it thru 192.168.0.1 or every unifi modem have their own address in order to disable the remote management? sorry for the nooB questions. QUOTE(i_bony @ Aug 17 2010, 11:02 AM) I think not possible if your current Belkin G is ADSL2 modem+router. If you do have a spare router, may be can consider either of the following methods: 1. Configure the DIR-165 as bridge mode and setup PPPoE on your router, please read Rizvanrp's documentation at: http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=co...id=49&Itemid=61 2. Configure & setup PPPoE at Huawei BTU and setup static IP on your router, please download & read Pr0di9y's documentation at post#917: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1502636/+900 If you don't have any router and still wish to "optimise" the current DIR-615, may be can consider to flash with DIR-165 with dd-wrt, but you won't have the IPTV anymore. Please read Rizvanrp's documentation at: http://unifi.athena.my/index.php?option=co...id=53&Itemid=65 Of course, you need to have "Balls of steel" as part of the prerequisites to execute the task |

Just called UniFi support, it's confirmed the D-link DIR-615 warranty period always stick to the service registration date, not the replacement date, alamak! |

QUOTE(i_bony @ Aug 17 2010, 01:12 PM) thanks so much bro for ur reply. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think the modem+router can work with Huawei BTU, the WAN port is Cat5 not the telephone port.u r saying that only normal router can used ur 1st and 2nd steps? modem+router is not possible eh? but suppose a N device could perform better altho at far? im experiencing unstable speed when using my laptop on 2nd floor, at times fast sumtimes slower than streamyx. while the G device only get really low signal -85db i think as showm, does the DIR-165 signal really that weak? Er, this WiFi thing I'm not expert, I believe there are many factors which may affect the signal quality. Normally I'll put the WiFi access point around middle of living hall, on top of some cabinet or something, without too many electrical /wall/metal items around it, basically clear from any obstruction. You won't believe how bad the signal quality if I put the WiFi router next to Astro Byond. So far I've been using the WHR-G300N [not full N-mode], setup WPA2+AES, no problem accessing from notebook or bridging with another router. Since I'm using dd-wrt, can play around some option like TX power, channel & width, but mostly I just leave it as default and it works great at my double storey link house. That DIR-615, I never bother to use it for internet, I configured it as VLAN [as per Rizvanrp's guide] and off the WiFi since day1, only use it for IPTV. So I really have no idea how good or bad it is. QUOTE(mystiquemaya @ Aug 17 2010, 01:28 PM) That one is for accessing dlink admin panel. Previously, I can access the Huawei admin panel using pr0di9y's method by setting static IP, subnet and gateway and accessing it at 192.168.100.1. But now cannot access even when using those steps. That really sound bad loh... better don't tell TM ppl what you've done, especially you logon to Huawei!!Tell some story like "tiba-tiba lighting strike power supply, after that tiada internet then itch hand go re-set the Huawei and now semua mati sekali"!! |

Thank rizvanrp to recommend the Singapore dealer for me. klseet, if you want to order a unit from them, you have to call them and pay them by TT or Paypal. You can't order from the web. Based on what I'm seeing in my Wireshark dumps from my linux box, the VLAN tagging/stripping is working as it should so I'm pretty sure this can permanently replace the DIR-615 for about 55SGD Some configuration settings work however it causes duplicate packets and doesn't correctly filter the ARP packet flood which is spewing out of the Unifi IPTV network so I'm testing every possible configuration through Wireshark before I write up a proper guide for this (give me <24 hours I'm posting here through my Windows PPPoE dialer. Excellent performance and stability so far I followed your configuration, except I use LAN5 to connect the BTU and LAN4 to IPTV, now my setup as follow: Huawei BTU[LAN1] ----> [WAN]Buffalo WHR-G300N(PPPoE profile+VLAN?.500 tagged)[LANs/WiFi] ----> Computers Huawei BTU[LAN2] ----> [LAN5]RB250GS[LAN4] ----> IPTV STB I now can pack the DIR-615 to store room liao!! I'm just thinking, will the result improve if I just hook up both my router & IPTV directly to RB250GS and just maintain 1 single connection to Huawei BTU? Huawei BTU[LAN1]----> [LAN5]RB250GS[LAN3] ----> Router(without tagging) ......................................................[LAN4] ----> IPTV STB QUOTE(pr0di9y @ Aug 23 2010, 04:33 PM) Riz configured yours already!
