That means, in total, two stations won't be built.
SUBANG JAYA: Motorists who have to bear the daily grind of snarling traffic, especially in the morning rush hour and after-office hours along the Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP), can expect to see their traffic woes easing.
Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak), the concessionaire of LDP, will be spending another RM74 million under the LDP 5C package to upgrade the traffic flow at Puchong.
Litrak chief executive officer Sazally Saidi said the project which would begin this May was expected to be completed by February 2013.
The project at the LDP will include the segregation of lanes, road widening and building of a flyover.
Sazally said the upgrading project will separate the main southbound traffic heading to Bandar Puchong from the local traffic heading towards Bukit Jalil from PJS toll plaza in Bandar Sunway. This allows motorists to bypass high local traffic concentration to get to Bandar Puchong Jaya.
The separation will replace the existing Contra Flow scheme from PJS toll plaza with the construction of a new flyover adjacent to the existing flyover from IOI Mall to Sunway.
The slip roads which are bottlenecks at Jalan Kenari 11, Persiaran Puchong Jaya Selatan and Bandar Puchong Jaya will also be expanded.
The concessionaire will also expand the five-lane highway to eight-lane, beginning from Onking Electrical Store on Jalan Kenari 11 to Persiaran Puchong Jaya near IOI Business Park.
When completed, the main southbound traffic from Sunway/PJ at the PJS toll plaza will be segregated from the local traffic, hence bypassing the congested areas between Jalan Kenari 7 and Persiaran Puchong Jaya Selatan in Bandar Puchong, ensuring motorists enjoy a shorter travel time.
Sazally said the upgraded LDP once completed will be able to reduce traffic congestion by 40 per cent
"When the LDP was opened in 1999, only 40,000 vehicles used the highway at Bandar Puchong Jaya daily, but now after 10 years of operation, the traffic volume has increased to 400,000 vehicles per day.
"Of that number, 140,000 motorists pass through the Sunway/PJS toll plazas while 180,000 motorists pass through the Putrajaya and the USJ/PJS toll plaza daily," he said.
Sazally also said Litrak has spoken to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council on acquiring land for the road widening project.
"To facilitate the project, we will have to acquire land, relocate the bus stop in front of the Puchong Jaya Maybank.
"We hope the local authority will facilitate our request," he said.
