I was at MidValley last weekend and saw this thing. I think it will some how give some added deterrent to the would be intruder to break in. It cost RM29 a piece.
This metal cover is to prevent the theft from cutting the padlock and the metal ear.

i would just unscrew the bolt & natts of the grill instead
The poster was asking about the device only, therefore did not discuss more on other areas to break in through the door, e.g. some simple break-in: (1) Direct cut the grill, like cutting wire fence. (2) Pry open from bottom using crowbar, unless your grill door has 2-3 ear+lock.

Yes. Do you reckon it will serve it's purpose ? Or just a waste of money ? Planning to buy few units to step up the security in my house.
It serves its purpose for the "ear"+"cover lock" only. Does not deter intruders from the example I give above.

This being the most common breaking case. My front door grill have 3 ears, top, center and bottom, all facing inwards. It is my intention to buy the metal cover to secure the bottom part of the grill.

The crowbar can be used to pry on the hinge side also (bottom of course for the intruder to crawl in), therefore depends on how strong/good is the grill hinge, though so far I have not heard a real life case yet.
If your grill-ear is facing inward, it is quite difficult (not impossible) to cut the lock/ear. If you've seen the cutter (kind of big-scissor) to cut locks that DBKL/enforcement uses, the cutter is at least 1-2m in length. Therefore, intruders prefer to cut grill / pry.
Got this email and I think I must share it with all the Puchong folks here. I haven't try it though, not sure it will work or not.
Mosquito Trap - A Cheap Way
CAUTION: This information may cause massive loss of jobs in insecticides companies, but it could save thousands of innocent lives from the cruel fate of dengue.
My apologies to all branded insecticides in the marketplace.
DIY is so easy and its costs are unbelievably negligible. Eradicate Aedes and dengue. FIGHTING DENGUE MUST START AT EVERY HOME. It’s just a mix of water, brown sugar and yeast.
How to build a Mosquito trap.
Materials Needed:
2000ml (2 liter) bottle 50 gram (brown?) sugar 1 gram yeast Thermometer Measure cup Knife Black paper 1. Cut the top of the bottle as shown 2. Take the lower portion of the bottle. Dissolve the brown sugar in hot water. Let it cool down to below 40 deg C. 3. Add the yeast. Carbon dioxide will form. (This will attract the mosquitoes.) 4. Cover the bottle with a dark wrap and insert in the top portion upside down like a funnel. Place it in a corner in your house. 5. In 2 weeks you will be surprised by the number of mosquitoes killed.

any more details on how to DIY the trap.. no harm trying at my home...
you can put all the ear or locks... but you must aware also that thief has more than one entrance to your house... do remember to look in those area as well. roof, window, walls......
After my house kena robbed early this year, I asked one of the many grill/iron factory at Maju Jaya to install something similar xtra ear to my grill. Well, for sure it will slow down & deter any attempt break-in by hammering the flimsy lock ear but it also very mafan to lock & unlock the grill

1) I have one question though, how long can the yeast continue interacting with sugar to produce CO2 ?
2) No doubt about it, got many entrances but I want to reinforce the most vulnerable zone first.

Indeed. some more I have to lock top and bottom ears which facing inwards. For grill doors without the bottom ears, can buy the locking cramp.
Fighting for more Chinese schools for our next generation can never be wrong. If you think it is wrong, I respect your opinion because of your national school background.
Nolar.. i never said that fighting for more Chinese school for future generation is wrong. In fact I fully support it as this is what more Chinese wants. What I didn't agree was that you said those who are not Chinese educated (like me) disregard Chinese culture as our root. Maybe I read wrongly, I meant no offence ya
Pangurban, I like what you wrote on ppl wearing taditional Chinese costumes. I see Arabs wearing their abayas and the guys wearing their kanduras everyday everywhere they go. These are not backwater but modern people in one of the most modern cities inthe world. I remembered asking myself why we Chinese with thousands of years of culture and heritage fall to wearing jeans and t-shirt and flip flops just like any other ppl you can find anywhere. I respect the Arabs for respecting their culture and identity and preserving it into modern days.

It is troublesome with the ear-lock thingy, but once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy to hook/unhook the lock. Until one of your family members do it the other way
i.e. normally I hook the padlock from right into left, but some people hook it from left to right =.="

This have been circulate quite sometime. You can brought this similiar and work longer without troublesome at ACE. Plug to the socket and you can trap as much as you can.

I have a few of those mozzie traps from ACE. Unfortunately, the fan motor breaks down very easily, and you'll have to take it to the distributor to get it replaced. Very troublesome. But it works. Going to try this DIY thingy. Got tons of yeast! The yeast will continue to feed on the sugar and multiply and produce CO2 for some time. The CO2 attracts the mozzies. That is one of the ways they are attracted to humans - our breath.
