Can o2 xda mini OS be upgraded to wm5 (if in the future ms stabilized the operating system) ?

where can i find the original PPC 2002 for the first edition of o2 XDA ?
i accidentally overwrite the ROM with newer OS and now the newer OS is buggy with the unit?

does Sis or the service center at Time square provide this rescue service to my XDA (first bulky version)
sorry for out of topic on xda 1

Jeremy,

You sure is so cheap? Where you enquire? Cos I ask last 2 week ago at 02 Service Center they quoted me RM270//- for front and back + labour. That why I decide to skin/laminate my O2 Mini for RM60.

Anyway here the address or 02 service center :-

Semi Tech
Lot 9-12, 9th Floor,
Berjaya Time Square,
No. 1, Jalan Imbi,
55100, Kuala Lumpur.

Monday to Saturday : 11am-8pm
Sunday : 11am to 5pm
Wednesday : Close

Repair : 03-21450376/378
Fax : 03-21450379
*
Thats what they quoted me for front and back casing....i called this girl answered @ the number and gave me the quotation....i don't think it includes the plastics and other parts...the complete replacement is rm245 as someone quoted here...

I just got my skin laminated oso @ lowyat....workmanship so-so lar...but im looking for plain skins...anyone here knows where got more design choices....

Its cool if we can get new black casings like the limited edition mini's...hehehe..then donneed to spend more for it

Advantage of Atom over mini :-

- WM5
- Wifi
- Radio
- EDGE
- 262k Colour
- 2.0MP
- 128 ROM
- Smaller form factor

Look good on paper but in reality there lot to be desire :-
(Excerpt from user from PPPSG forum)

- Battery cover loose issue
- Very Slow (Slower than mini 2X)
- Buggy
- 8-10 rings before the phone actually sounds
- And playin an MP3 ringtone from the mini sd card is HORRIBLE, it jerky!
- With two tiny speaker infront and the ringtone could not be hear clearly. Distortion and cracking can be hear. Sound MAX out.
- RADIO.... bad... noise and flat sound.
- Touch Screen response is poor and retarted.
- Piano Black plastic body. Cheapo.. Finger PrintProne. Easy scratch and crack.
- Poor Quality EarPiece. Doesn't fit well and keep dropping.
- Checksum Failure issue
- Hang a lot
- Take 3-5 minute to boot up when reset.
- Poor 2.0 Camera

They have some ROM update by now to rectify some issue. But already too much damage is done to regain user confidence. Recommend you to go for Dopod 818 pro or the faster Eten M600 if you decide to upgrade.
*
Agree with MR-2. So many issues yet to be rectified. I've already lost confidence in the initial O2 Atom release. Prior to this I was so excited about the new device as I've found buyers for my O2 Mini. Now I'd rather keep my Mini..."Potong Stim" tongue.gif

It took them 2 days to change the covers including some minor services... e.g updating ROM, software...

think needs around 5 hrs only if wanna change the housing only

Is changing the housing really that quick? I hope the devices come back without extra scratches or anything......

O2 Mini cannot be upgraded as the ROM is only a puny 64mb, half of the requirement needed for WM5........

I think i quoted here for RM245 or something like that for the full housing change....But that was at least 4-5 months ago. Im not sure if the price has dropped..... rolleyes.gif

I was once thinking of changing my mini to Dopod 818 Pro.... But now I've pull back my thought, financial doesn't permit me to do so as I just bought a new laptop.

Mostly will re-skin my mini and change the screen protector to Martin Field?

hi there,

do we need the usb cable to sync it?..can I only use the bluetooth dongle to connect to pc and sync it?..i tried with BT dongle but can't sync...if need the cable how much would that cost and where i can order it coz i'm from penang and lost the cable when i purchased the O2 mini coz pindah rumah everything missing
*
I'm not sure about the bluetooth thingie, but i used the usb cable to sync. Maybe you can use usb cable from digital camera, cuz from the look, it seem like we can use it (at least for my digital camera usb cable) correct me if i'm wrong....
So if my analogy is true, i think you shouldn't have any problem to get this kind of cable at Bukit Jambul or Prangin Mall right..

if i were EVER to buy a pocket PC phone AGAIN, I would go for the BIGGEST screen as typing sms using the stylus on the tiny touchscreen is a friggin nightmare.

I am officially leaving this thread. Sold my O2 Mini for RM1420 and bought a N70. Happy with it. Good luck to you PDA users, my friends!

P/S: I'm not an organized person, realized I'm not a stylus person either.

Try to hook it up with the Microsoft Outlook on your computer and synchronize from there. That's the best way to save your contacts. Hope there isnt too many because Nokia and O2's way of saving contacts are different.
