Wow....U buying the mini O2....well, my fren is a ex-technician from the O2 service centre....as what i'm heard from him, O2 mini is still not stable where it's hardware is still have many problem...expecially the reciever and the antenna, where most customer will found the new set bought unable to hear the other party during calls and also have a very poor receiption....and one generation of stock takes alot of power and u'll find it not lasting with it's battery....and lastly, if uy wan to buy O2 mini it's better that u dun install any 3rd party software in it....guess what?? PDA exxxxx does not test the 3rd party software previously and dun know the compatiblity for the hardware....that what make the system corrupt in few month time...as a result u'll need to do the hard reset...in more serious case u'll need to change the hardware where the service centre might won't do the warranty for that.....that's what i can say bout o2 mini....so be carefull........smile.gif tongue.gif

Well, after a long day for collecting my mini at Mv, going to Sg Wang to laminate it, and went to my friends shop to see any nice accesories for it(but end up didn't get any), I'm finally here back at my home and writing this happy news of mine to share with others, right b4 I go for my bath...

Well, nothing much to tell at the moment as I really have no idea how this things works. Previously was using PALM OS, so might need some time to figure out the PPC.

Anyway, here is the picture of my new gadget.

From now on, I think I need to spend more time here since I need more lessons from all the sifus here....

First of all, I wasnt even sure if I wanted to put this under the 'PDAs & Mobile Computing' section or the 'Handphones & Communications'. What the heck. Anyway, this is my own private O2 Mini topic. Why this topic? Cause I am planning to buy it! That's why.

As some of you guys have seen, I've posted various topics about buying a PocketPC, also about Windows Mobile 2005. I was in the last few pages of the 'Official Nokia 6680 Thread' too. Its so obvious that I'm dying to change a mobilephone and also get a PocketPC.

I've finalize my thought that WM2005 isnt worth the wait, especially when all of us know that Microsoft products will be buggy and then I need to wait some extra time for them to iron out the bugs. By the time when WM2005 is stably rolled-out, I think I'll be waiting for WM2007.

Anyway, I am using a SE-T610 now. I'm fed up with the phone. I was looking at Nokia 7270, then Nokia 6260, then Nokia 8230i, then finally today Nokia 6680. I spoke to some friends who are phone enthusiast and everyone advised against the 3G phone. I like Nokia cause the SMS function is U-N-R-I-V-A-L-E-D!

Anyway, those 'few' enthusiast of my friends said they all wanted a O2 Mini. I was curious and at the same time, made some research. I found out that I can have both the PocketPC+Phone at the price of one. Both sole functional Phone or PocketPC dont come cheap these days, so I get a 2-in-1. [apologise to whoever suggested me O2 Mini long ago - SORRY BOSS!]

I have some questions regarding O2 Mini.

1. It is running on Intel PXA 272 Processor @ 416Mhz CPU processing speed. 416Mhz is probably nothing compared to Dell Axim X50 520Mhz PocketPC and even slower compared to Dell Axim X50v 624Mhz PocketPC. I know you can play games on PocketPC these days but with a processing speed slower than the rest, how many of you play games on your O2 Mini and what games are supported?

2. I heard about this Martin Field screen protector for RM50. Where can I buy them?

3. Because I'm going to spend ~RM2600 for the O2 Mini, I might as well get the original car charger to avoid blaming myself if something goes wrong with the imitation ones. What brands and how much is an orignal O2 Mini car-charger?

4. How much is a O2 Mini original cradle? Cradle can also be used to recharge depleted batteries, correct?

5. I read through so many threads in Lowyat.net forum and I saw somewhere, someone posted something about RM8/month for 1Mb GPRS. Where do I sign up for it? If we apply GPRS, we can online anytime and anywhere, is it? Sorry, I'm such a noob. Also, means I dont have to be on hotspot areas, yes? RM8/mth for 1MB GPRS means 1MB line or 1MB download?

6. Bluetooth headset, what's a good brand? I know Logitech are popular for these sort of things but they are quite pricey. How come most of you uses Motorola headset? Those HBH-SerialCode, etc... Why Motorola?

7. I dont know if my information is correct but 64Mb is built-in memory, are they ROM? Then we can have either a WiFi+256Mb or a 512Mb or even a 1Gb SD-Card for external storage correct?

8. If we have a spare battery, we take the empty battery out of the O2 Mini and changed it with a fully-charged one. That battery change process, will it cause all the data to be lost?

9. I read from some sites that O2 Mini text input are not perfect. [I'm assuming we write normally instead of writing Graffiti like Palm-tops] and there are slight lags. Is this true? Any way of improving this?

10. I saw reviews wrote 'No hard key to turn off phone connectivity'. What does it mean?

11. This advertisement at: http://www.lelong.com.my/Auc/List/DetailSa...oductID=1625077 says that it can increase O2 Mini performance by a 150%, possible?

12. Before buying, I should check for dead-pixels, I've also read about that hissing sound, and that memory storage cause all information loss. Windows hang is pretty common. I've read about weak bluetooth signals and cant hear anything from receiving calls. Any other advise or things I should look out for before purchasing an O2 Mini?

1. Any Pocket PC games works on Mini! You can play the top award winning game Bejewelled, follow by other games like, Lemonade Tycoon, Worms, Monopoly, Insaniquarium, Rayman, Emperor's Mahjong, Big2, Fifa, etc...etc..

2. You could easily find one in any of Lowyat gadget stores. smile.gif

3. Well, I'm not so sure about the exact price for the original car-charger but I got mine around RM20+. Good deal huh? tongue.gif but i seldom use it anyway... doh.gif

4. So far, I only came across Mini cradle from Brando. There's a member who did a bulk on brando stuffs, quite a bargain he have there. IInm, the price is around RM80-90? Yes.

5. Are you a Maxis user? If yes, you may just call up to apply the 1mb GPRS plan for RM8/mth. You can online anytime and anywhere you wish. This isn't Wifi. biggrin.gif The 1MB is for downloading/uploading purposes not the connection!! This isn't Streamyx. tongue.gif

6. Bluetooth eh? Well, it depends on different users. Some would prefer a big bulky headset, like the Jabra, the weird looking one tongue.gif and some would prefer a good quality headset like the Sony Ericsson or some would opt for Motorola? or maybe some other cheaper brands.. I guess Motorola headsets are quite cheap in the market now?

7. It is 64MB ROM. It's not much compared to the XDA II with 128MB ROM. sweat.gif Yes, you may add wifi+combo sd card but afaik it's not advisable to get that. Bingo! Get a 1GB SD card!! thumbup.gif

8. Well, you have to be quick once you remove the battery or sim card. If not, all data will be erased! which also meants hard-reset.

9. This I'm not too sure, as I just use the input keyboard as I find it easier. Some people complained that the touch screen is too sensitive.

10. No idea, do you mean disconnect the GPRS connection? If yes, just press the "end" button to disconnect the GPRS connection.

11. It is possible, but bear in mind that this will void your warranty! There's another way to free extra storage memory by installing the unofficial ROM by someone i-don't-know-who.

12. Nothing much to check. Most important is the DEAD PIXELs! It's quite common now though.

Anyway, I hope I did answer all your questions. Hehe, you should try looking for sonyclie77 or 8431 for more infos bout pda stuffs. They're my sifu! tongue.gif hor? notworthy.gif

6. AFAIK, jabra headset is the best bluetooth headset around.. good battery life and good sound quality.. wink.gif

10. I think what he mean is we cannot turn off the phone by any key on the phone. The only thing we can do to disconnect the phone is turn the phone into flight mode.

yea..no doubt jabra is 1 of the bluetooth giant ...vibrating call alert which is found in BT250v and BT800 makes it a standout headset..but the tickling kinda funny so i opt for motorola hs 850 instead..quick response time.. instant sync..tested on my mini and 2s..long talk time...and the blue light pulse makes it look cool...hehe
