QUOTE(leaF @ Jul 26 2010, 07:03 PM) thanks for the video duke , after watched the video I still think Torres will stay for another season .He love the kop and this club so much and I think he will give a chance to new management and probably new owner, if he is a liverpool fan he would understand how important ''fernando torres'' to liverpool football club. I'm sure that as fans, we'll all do our part in convincing him to stay. Assuming he thinks with his head and not his heart however, he may still decide to leave albeit with a heavy heart. Do you remember the number of "Alonso, please don't leave us" signs on display during our tour to Singapore? Fans all over the world were literally pleading with Xabi not to leave but we cannot be selfish and pretend to understand how politics within the club affect a player. I'm sure that like Torres, Xabi loved the fans but ultimately, he had to look into the best interest of his career and I understand why he decided to leave in the end. QUOTE(Jonno @ Jul 26 2010, 07:33 PM) I am with duke on the point of "no player being bigger than the club". It is the same with the manager, assistant manager, the list just go on. The thing is that I would love for Torres to stay for another season, at least, to try and see whether he could win something with us. I won't blame him for wanting to leave, as he is coming into his prime, and if he stayed with us, the chances of him winning would probably diminished if the 2 clowns are still there. A very good example is Bryan Robson, for the player he was, he only won a couple of titles while at Man United, and that was towards the end of his career, and NO European honours at all. Well that's the thing about football today isn't it? That there is too much money involved and as a person, it's hard to ignore the wads of cash that's being waved in your face, and put your loyalties at the forefront. You'd be hard pressed these days to find a Steve Bull type player. For those that don't know him. He was in England's 1990 World Cup squad whilst plying his trade with Wolves in the old English 2nd Division. Needless to say, his value soared after the World Cup but he stayed true to Wolves despite interests from top sides like Newcastle and Coventry. These days, the almighty dollar rules. QUOTE(Jonno @ Jul 26 2010, 07:33 PM) I am not saying that Torres should leave in searching for honours, I am more the type who thinks he should give the manager some faith, give it another season, give his all, and most importantly stay injury free. He must remember, that the plight we are in are as much down to his injury record, in which he was constantly searching for match fitness. Then he'd get fit and then be injured again. To me, he owed us that much, to give another good season, try to win a cup or who knows, if the team somehow magically clicked, go for the title. If I were to use my job as an analogy, I'd be equally frustrated knowing the management isn't looking to invest into the business even though it's going downhill. Things can only get worse. Bonuses will be miniscule and let's not even get into increments. As much as I love my company, I'd leave if there was little sign of progress. QUOTE(Jonno @ Jul 26 2010, 07:33 PM) Many don't realised this, but this is essentially the same squad from last season with a couple of quality additions, no less Joey Cole and Milan Jovanovic. If the squad from last year is tipped to win the title after finishing 2nd in 2008/09, this squad, with the additions, should definitely better last season's performance. Don't forget, it's a brand new season, everyone will start with equal footing and everyone will be going for 3 points in every match. I say we'd know a bit more of the squad after the first 5 matches then readjust our expectation, but for now, if someone tells me that we'd win the title, I'll say, why not? After all, the season has yet to kick off and we have yet to lose (or win for that matter) a match, so let's have some positivity in cheering the team on! Ah here's where we differ. Whilst you are the eternal optimist, I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I just don't see any logical reason to suggest we'll challenge for honours this season. Our away form last season was abysmal but Fulham's was worse. Not indication Roy Hodgson knows how to win away from home.QUOTE(madfag @ Jul 27 2010, 09:45 AM) lol. how do you justify that torres should be more expensive than drogba? Well for one Torres has age on his side which is a major factor as most clubs can't just go out and buy any player at any price. The vast majority of clubs still need to check their balance sheets and ensure that if they are going to fork out a lot of cash, they'd want a return on their investment and if a player is into his 30's, there isn't too much time for ROI. This is why your value drops as you age even if you're still at the top of your game. The only time this will change is when every club has a billonaire owner looking for a hobby who is willing to spend whatever it takes to win a trophy. QUOTE(madfag @ Jul 27 2010, 09:45 AM) hell, i wouldnt even trade drogba for ronaldo or messi. whats more an injury prone striker. im not belittling torres, he is a fearsome striker any club would want. but i just dont see how he is better than drogba by that much. drogba is definitely better. golden boot Just because a player was going through an injury spell for one year, he's injury prone? I won't start a "who's better" argument here because it's subjective but I don't think it's fair to lable Torres as an injury prone striker just yet. He often leads our line alone and he gets battered almost every game. The human body no matter how fit, can only take so much. Look at Drogba each time he gets hit, but then, he does appear to have a lower pain threshold than most players I've seen. In my books, Drogba definitely has the talent, but I don't like his ethics. Heck his play acting was so bad, he even got boo-ed once at Stamford Bridge by the home fans no less. When I've seen him at his best, it was when he was robust and used his strength to great effect, not writhing in pain each time he got touched. This is the frustrating thing about him. Can't help but wonder if he'd score more goals if he rode challenges instead of trying to draw fouls from them. I'm not saying Torres doesn't go down easy, but he isn't as big nor is he as strong as Drogba obviously is. Added on July 27, 2010, 2:16 pm QUOTE(ayanami_tard @ Jul 27 2010, 10:16 AM) i don't mind Torres leaves liverpool as long(AS LONG) as he stays in BPL I rather he leaves because I'd hate to have to see him score against us. we need great footballer like him to spice up the league.if Torres leaves England,it's not hurt liverpool, but the whole BPL as a whole. Torres, like Rooney(and Fabregas,Van Persie, etc) come once in a blue moon.and i'd not looking forward to see them out of england now to bring Kaka,Van Der Vaart and and Higuain to BPL I don't care about the BPL as much as I care about Liverpool. I don't think the BPL has a problem given the number of wealthy owners it has been attracting. Where there's money, there will be quality players. QUOTE(JDE_Freelancer @ Jul 27 2010, 03:25 AM) Personnally thinking that raul is not really fit to liverpool squad, due to his age, and BPL is more physicall playing style......unless he has size of Ruud...... have u watch pre-season liverpool against feyenoord 2-3 season back. he tackle gerard so robust until agger shot at him and warned him. he is not so good though..not good in defend or so-so in attack. prefer someone who has experience in BPL for LB position.I think Drenthe is better than Turan, as he can play LB and LWM, but Turan not, just mainly LWM..... |

Bridge maybe the only option for a proven LB BPL player, only if Man City accept our demands.

Mascherano free to leave Liverpool
Liverpool have told midfielder Javier Mascherano he can leave the club after talks with Roy Hodgson fell through. New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson stressed the importance of keeping the team's star players when he took over the job in July and attempted unsuccessfully to contact Mascherano on several occasions, but after talks with the Argentina captain at the club's Melwood training ground the player is now free to leave Anfield if a deal can be agreed between Liverpool and probable suitors Inter Milan. According to a source inside Anfield, Mascherano's exit was just a matter of time with the 26-year ready to leave Liverpool as early as last year. "The talks were extremely amicable. It was all done in a very nice way. Javier made it clear that he wanted to leave a year ago when he had the chance to go to Barcelona," the source told ESPNsoccernet. "He was asked to stay on for one more year, he agreed, so now it is time for him to go. It was all very pleasant and it is now a question of the two clubs who are interested in him making an acceptable offer to Liverpool." Liverpool are expected to want 25 million pounds for the defensive midfielder and Hodgson will now continue the tough task of convincing his other star players, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, to stay on at the club. Added on July 27, 2010, 4:38 pmLiverpool look at Carlos Salcido New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is running out of options at leftback and is looking at Carlos Salcido as a solution. The versatile PSV left-back or midfielder is a target for Hodgson, and the Anfield boss is willing to make a £3million raid for the 30-year-old. After both Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio have left Merseyside, there have been a shortage of specialists at the left-back position at the club. Hodgson also has an interest in Wigan's Maynore Figueroa, as well as Real Madrid's Royston Drenthe, but neither will come cheaply for the cash-strapped club. Salcido is well known in his country for helping the Mexican national team to a fourth place finish at the 2005 Confederations Cup. He scored a fantastic goal against Argentina after recovering the ball in his own half and dribbling the length of the pitch past three defenders, and remains well-regarded by PSV Eindhoven. just take salcio n figueroa...that's all..no need to think anymore..kop has no money to spend..that's the fact...and bad news...gilberto silva n jansen wanna stay at current club...no drenthe please..
BUT £9m Royston Drenthe will lift Liverpool Liverpool appeared last night to have moved to solve the problem of the left back position at Anfield by attempting to secure the signature of Real Madrid's £9m rated Dutch player Royston Drenthe. Though Wigan Athletic's Maynor Figueroa had seemed to be priority target for Roy Hodgson, the Liverpool manager can ill afford to delay in his move to fill a position which is a priority for him. AND Lucas called into Brazil new regime AND Have a Break.........Top 10 Manager Moves That Never Happened 3) Jose Mourinho, Liverpool, 2004 Before Roman Abramovich came calling in the summer of 2004, the 'Special One' was being linked with Liverpool as early as March of the same year when Mourinho's representatives contacted the Reds about a possible deal. Liverpool turned him down as they were still backing Gerard Houllier at the time. After Porto won the Champions League the Reds realized the error of their ways and tried to contact Mourinho again, only to discover Chelsea had beaten them to the punch and the next two league titles. i am hoping that if masch leave, it wouldnt leave a too big hole to cover in the centre just like when alonso left. we are linked with banega and i like what i've seen from him last season in valencia. but if masch wanna leave, i would be very sad as he is as important as torres n reina to the team imo. the best dm atm in the world, n how rafa saved his career from westham. lucky him and he owe rafa that i suppose.

Mascherano's departure from Anfield will definitely leave a gaping hole in the middle of the park. He was out injured for a the start of last season and his absence put the defence under constant pressure. His boundless energy and enthusiasm will be sorely missed. Not often you come across players who play with so much heart. If you ask me, a replacement for him should be a priority over any other position now. Aurelio played in that position against Fiorentina when he was out and failed miserable. Lucas doesn't fit the bill either as he's more comfortable going forward as is Aquilani. Hmm would be interesting to see how far Jay Spearing has developed. If the game against Kaiserslautern was anything to go by, me thinks he may just make the grade.

jansen's agent ruled out move to liv. so now we are linked with salcido, konchesky, figueora and drenthe right ?
it would be ideal imo to have masch stay and secure a decent lb, one who is quick enough for the english game and i reckon our squad is good enough for an assault to get back to top4. that should be our main aim, nothing fancy. i dont expect us to go on a wonderful cup run again although that would be a bonus provided our players are up to it. |

PADDY POWER SUSPENDS BETTING ON TORRES NEXT CLUB Following a flurry of bets at 10/1 and then 6/1 for Torres to move to Chelsea Paddy Power have suspended the betting on Fernando Torres’ club next season. Roberto Coladangelo spokesman for Paddy Power said; “We re-opened the market on Fernando’s next club due to the speculation and interest from punters following comments from the City boss Roberto Mancini. However it became clear today that the punters now believe in the rumours linking the Spaniard to west London forcing us to reassess the market. ” |
