Don't expect too much from the first 2 or 3 matches. The team is focusing on gaining match fitness for the first few matches and now with a new manager, they have to adapt to a new playing style. I'm sure they'll get better in the forthcoming matches.

I did not watch the match so i cannot give any comments on it, but i beg to differ with those who write off friendly pre season results as unimportant. Remember how poor our pre season was last time round? That 'form' translated into the season proper did it not?

Pre seasons friendlies are important imho as it builds up a momentum and players confidence, even more so when we are hoping to retain the services of a number of key players.

For me pre-season is quite important but the thing is without our first team player this pre-season it is going to be hard to comment.

Last season we were with at least 90% of the squad but due to the world cup we were just down to 20-40% of our first team.

But it is really disappointing for the team not to deliver even with our youngster. It just show our youngster is not good enough to challenge the EPL.

agreed with we must win preseason game...if i remember it correctly, season 08/09 we have win several preaseason game, voronin also get some goal...
09/10, have we win the preseaon game? i think i read it here that we not win in a single game...so i want to see this preseason match give some momentum in EPL later...i will not judge in this 1st match...but let see several match after this...

oh houllier.. still bitter after all this time. though i respected him because he did won a few cup for liverpool but rafa made the team big again in europe.

forgot to put this link. tomkins sums it all up. LINK

I happen to watch some moments on astro (Liverpool TV of the evan years) not your goal clips but some style of plays that had so many forumers here enamoured of Liverpool (well, judging from the post & back then the daglish era or those predates that, they werent born yet)

It showed a lot passing & creative play that houllier had to abandon mainly because post mcmanaman, barnes, rush, LFC inherited a leaky awful defence of evans days, LFc had to employ almost high balls, bypassing midfield more than half the time for owen/heskey to chase. (at time even titi camara did too).
Evans LFc boys plays intelligent & many times almost breach to win the ONE but its was always the awful defending that had us & opposition scoring at will.

I dont know how one could appreciate that of LFc (while i understood houllier/thompson had to rid of leaky defence & at that time football tactics is becoming much much sophisticated, from the usual 4-4-2 & 4-3-3.

I respected what houllier had to overhaul but tactically he will be really out of sorts now, given the lack of post LFc. (please I'm not against houllier (to those Pro Houllier/anti Rafa) but his continued decision to stick to owen/heskey gave the LFC too 1 dimensional

sigh

Aren't preseason games meant to slowly build your players to match fitness? Granted, most of our first eleven just came back from WC holidays (which in a way puts paid to the story of the squad being thin or crap imho) but surely most would have benefited from a run out?

I might not know much about football but i do know that it is always too convenient to blame poor preseason games on 'youth' players, second stringers etc etc... heck we did a lot of that last season doh.gif It is too easy to ignore the alarm bells that are could potentially be ringing, no?
