QUOTE(livingmonolith @ Aug 12 2010, 11:42 AM) if you look at our complete squad list, we have more or less filled up the slots in both the homegrown and foreign quotas. I think kyrgiakos might not make the cut for Wilson to get more games. El zhar too won't make it.. Hodgson will most probably pick Pacheco ahead of him. 25 players with 3 keepers might be an overkill.. 2 keepers will do as BPL allow replacements for injury.. expecting shelvey pacheco and wilson to be in 25. even more so ..is masch is leaving. 7 of the 8 spots for homegrown would've been filled by gerrard, carra, cole, johnson, spearing, darby and insua (provided that he stays). apart from that plessis, nemeth and brouwer also qualify as homegrown as they've spent 3 years here before turning 21. the foreign players would make 15 of the 17 spots through reina, aquilani, lucas, agger, kyrgiakos, skrtel, aurelio, kuyt, torres, babel, rodriquez, cavalieri, jovanovic, ngog and masch/poulsen. there will be two more spots for fringe players like el zhar if he hasn't left (there's another itandje but i doubt he'll be in). the rest will be free to play throughout the season as they are under 21, full list includes ayala, pacheco, wilson, shelvey, kelly, robinson, irwin, hansen, gulacsi, amoo, ince, bruna, kacaniklic, dalla valle, palsson, eccleston, bouzanis, cooper, chamberlain, kohlert, mavinga, mendy, poloskei, roberts, saric, simon and weijl (27 in total). i don't expect many from this lot to graduate to the first team squad, but there's a healthy figure as all 27 of them will qualify as homegrown after turning 21. if prospects like pacheco, shelvey, ayala, wilson, kelly and co can slowly usurp into the first team in the next couple of years, we'll have a healthy number of homegrown to not have any worries. if RH is playing by the number, he may still get one or two homegrown and foreign players to fully utilize his quota if he thinks none of plessis, nemeth, brouwer and el zhar are good enough to make the squad. on personal POV, i won't lose sleep if darby, plessis, brouwer, el zhar, itandje and insua get transferred out before the transfer window closes. i do hope though that nemeth gets a chance this season since we have enough homeqrown slots at the moment if RH doesn't make anymore homegrown signings. but there's still over 2 weeks to go before the list has to be submitted so anything may happen. Still waiting news on insua.. I think he might qualify as home grown.. |

I’d sign new Reds deal in 2 minutes says Carra JAMIE CARRAGHER has said it will ‘take two minutes’ for him to sign a new contract at Liverpool. Carragher heads into his 15th season in the first team with just one year left on his current contract. Manager Roy Hodgson is keen to tie the loyal defender down for longer and has said a new deal will be treated as a ‘priority’ as soon as the anticipated takeover of the club is rubberstamped. Now Carragher has repeated his desire to end his career as a one club man. “I am desperate to finish my career at the club and I’m sure that will be the case,” said the 32-year-old. “If the manager has said these things, great. Once he’s finished bringing people in we’ll sit down and sort things out with no problems. “It’ll take two minutes, I think.” Carragher says the managerial change at Liverpool has provided a boost ahead of the new season – but admits he faces a fight to keep his place in the team. Hodgson replaced Rafael Benitez during the summer and has immediately set about lifting the gloom. A seventh placed Premier League finish followed early exits from the FA Cup, Carling Cup and Champions League. Failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League, plus concerns about the direction of the club, had led to what Hodgson described as ‘disenchantment’ among some of the players. Now, with Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres both committing themselves to Hodgson’s new era, plus the capture of Joe Cole on a free transfer, Carragher claims the mood is much better at Melwood. “We have got to look forward with great excitement,” he said. “Last season never went well but we have got to forget about it and put it behind us. Just like when Rafa Benitez and Gerard Houllier came in, everyone got a lift. “That’s the way it is. We are not a club that changes manager every couple of years. “But it’s not just that. We have made a couple of good signings, like Joe Cole. Not only that, two of the best players in the world have just committed their futures. “That is absolutely massive and has given everyone the kind of lift we needed. “We have got to be positive and I see no reason why we can’t do well but the proof, as always, will be provided by the performances we produce on the pitch.” With Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger and Sotirios Kyrgiakos all vying for a centre-back berth, plus the emergence of youngsters Martin Kelly and new signing Danny Wilson, competition for places will be fierce. Carragher had a difficult start to last season before rediscovering some of his best form into the new year and says he will have to be at his best to hold down a starting place this time around. “You never know what might happen,” he said. “Last year after a few games, the whole world had written me off and said I was finished. “But in the second half of the season, along with Mascherano and Pepe, I was probably one of the most consistent players and, when you look at how the defence played, we managed to keep 18 clean sheets. “That’s gone now and you have to do it all again. “There is going to be a challenge and it has always been the case that players will want to take your place but you just have to be ready for the challenge. “I played every week for Rafa for six years but I’ve got to prove myself again. Even if Rafa had still been here that would have been the case. There will be a time when I don’t play 50 games a season but I’ve no intention of it happening this year.” Added Carragher: “There is one thing that will never change. “Liverpool will always be expected to do well and the pressure for us to be successful is just as intense as it was all those years ago; it might even be more. It will be like that for years to come.” |

Masch : I want to leave England, not Liverpool
SOS Masch finally speaks up...he feels England isn't the right place for him and his wife. I understand that he's a good family man...I would have done it too since I put my family first over work. Good Luck in the future Masch. |

I personally think Poulsen can be good in Liverpool...i believe tough and rough tackling DM's like him are very much suited in the BPL.

The last time I saw Poulsen play, he played as an attacking player which gives you an idea of how long ago that was. Anyone can tell me if he's any good and why?

Poulsen might be a blondish guy.. but on the pitch he is more 'brutal' than Masch.. hopefully at the age of 30, he can now control his temper...

5m for 30 yr old Poulsen is much more like paying for his experience. maybe RH thinks the club lacks credible senior figures on the pitch
btw 20m for carlton cole? is RH trolling? for somebody who does not figure consistently for his country and has never played in the Champions League that's certainly a waste of quids. for Kop's sake use 15m and get Ozil |
