some poison
Added on August 13, 2010, 6:58 amSandy Bridge mobile quad looking good, at least for clock speed QUOTE However, the new quad-cores are big news, as they will be the first mobile quads in 32nm. Despite this TDPs start at 45W for the Core i7 2720QM clocked at 2.2GHz/3.3GHz. The flagship Core i7 2920XM will feature 8MB of cache and 2.5GHz/3.5GHz clocks, however it has a massive 55W TDP and it will obviously cost an arm and a leg. sourceThis post has been edited by lee_what2004: Aug 13 2010, 06:58 AM |

QUOTE(lee_what2004 @ Aug 13 2010, 05:30 AM) Added on August 13, 2010, 6:58 amSandy Bridge mobile quad looking good, at least for clock speed source each core in Bulldozer has 2 integer units and 1 floating point units, essentially having 2 sub-cores, thus recognized as 2 threads in Windows... and this is unlike HTT where special optimization is needed... as long as the app is multi-core optimized, it will be able to make use of the sub-cores, since each sub-core can perform calculations independently... and why only 1 floating point units? cuz the floating point intensive calculations are done by GPU instead (Radeon only, for the time being), thus offloading the CPU's work and maximize GPGPU... this is really great innovation from AMD and neither Intel nor NV can match that... on 1 hand there's more efficient multi-thread use (better than HTT), and on the other hand, utilizing the untapped performance of GPU in even more areas (besides HD videos, video transcoding, scientific number crunching...) i can foresee the fruit of AMD-ATi merger is ripe soon...
