i mean, if u keep gliders in such quantity in that cage n the way they cramped together, i know that it's not right already
that's i jump into conclusion that the nose is that way due to fighting/injury as they do fight when there's like 10 gliders in a cage?
if the pic was shown to me in a close up, with black pigmentation then i would have a different opinion then
bu so far i've not seen gliders with black pigmentation on their nose before
but then, with that pic...can't blame me for jumping into that conclusion
lol!

I know that your intention was good for the sake of the glider....I just want to explained that I have seen that glider before (she really look like a cute puppy with that black nose of her's)......IF only I have used the word PIGMENTATION....(never cross my mind of the word at that time) AND THANKS Kelvin_faye for your explanations rclxms.gif ....... again....I apologize for my actions to those who feel offended with my sentences or words..SORRY YOU GUYS blush.gif and by the way I only been to the fellar's place once only... curiosity to see his place brows.gif

Even you are senior, even you keep gliders for 10 20years, when you did something wrong that means it's wrong... We are not trying to put the blame on you or either anyone here, we just point out the issue and remind others not to do it..

If i were you, i would not hangat hangat go and grab a camera and capture the pic of my glider happily eating the lizard..instead, i will grab his favorite treats such as yogurt drop or mealworms and TRADE the lizard with him...

Hey guys, i need some help here. My female glider was pregnant and the joey inside her pouch should be around 5-6 months, but something bad happen 1 week ago. Everytime i feed my gliders, i will check on their pouch to see the baby is ok. But 1 week ago, when i go see the female, the baby inside the pouch is gone. I was shocked and i tot the mom eat the baby.... than i decided to go check on the sleeping pouch to see if there were "left over"... When i looked inside.... OMG.... the baby is inside the sleeping pouch. The baby seems out of the pouch and was left inside the sleeping pouch. It is obviously immature baby. The body including tail is pink with no fur, the eyeball is big. The size not even as big as a peanut. That time i dunno what should i do, i just felt very sad and hopeless. The baby is still moving. I know that if the joey was detached from the mother nipples, it is hopeless for the baby to reattached back... some more this baby is immature and the jaw still seal. So i just put back to Sleeping pouch back into the cage with the immature joey inside.... to just hoping the mom will so "save" her baby.... After 2 days, i checked on the sleeping pouch again, the baby is still there and still moving too. I was like... speechless. den i leave it there again.... after 1 week, when i go feed my gliders again, I saw the mommy come out from the sleeping pouch and i was amazed. I saw the baby's head is sticking in the mom's pouch (looks like nursing), while the body is outside and not inside the pouch. And the baby was grabbing her mom tightly. I was like.... WOW..... It looks so weird, I tot the baby couldn't survive after so long. I don't wan to move the baby cuz i scare something bad happen. ....Wanna ask forumer here that what can i do after all this? I am thinking that i might just leave it like that....... hope any experts here can give me some advice. I'm a first timer.

Erm.. joey inside the pouch around 5-6months? or 5-6weeks?

From what you describe, it seem like the joeys are out of pouch already, and they were in the pouch bbecause the mom went out to hunt for food.. When joeys are out of pouch, their tail are furless and eyes unopened... after 1-2weeks OOP then they will open their eyes and start develop their body and grow bigger..

And yea, even they are OOP already, they will still nursing on mother's milk for bout 1month.. so kinda normal to see them stick their head inside the pouch while body cling outside..

Jus make sure u provide sufficient nutrient and keep the stress level minimal...

If u happen to see the birth of joeys after pregnant for 16days, then nursing IN POUCH will be 2 months, and another 2 months OUT OF POUCH.

U can look up in Version 12 of the glider joeys. Those r my first twins. Compare it urself. Thanks.

Cheers

sorry. my typo... not 5-6 months. it's weeks. Ok, i will try check on the post and compare

Added on August 27, 2010, 9:38 am@Kelvin....I checked already. The baby size doesn't look like your twins at all. For my baby, the size not as big as that.... almost half to 3/4 of your baby size only. and don't have black color fur on the back too.... whole body is pink. Tonight i will take picture for you guys to see. T_T i think the survival rate might be only 10-20%....

Seems like your joey OOP prematurely.... this can happen to first time mothers. For now you have to make sure the joey hangs on as much as it can. Look at the body. If you see the tail look bony then it is starving, you have to interfere and hand feed. Now the situation is hard. Some females will nurse back the joey. Some may not.... it is a good sign that it is still nursing. But don't handle your gliders too much yah, let the female do what she has to do. If the joey doesn't survive, then take it as a lesson coz breeding is never easy.

Ok, i get it now. But i never hand feed the baby cuz scare the glider might cannibalize the joey. Even never touch it with my hand. But luckily the mom got nursing him. Got a few time i saw the baby hanging on the mom's pouch. It's already been 1 week+ since the baby OOP and it still survive. Tonight the baby stay inside the pouch and the mom come out eat. I manage to take a few pic from the pouch too. This pic was taken tonight. 1 week ago, the tail is still pink color. But now, the tail got gray abit edi. Hope the baby can survive this.

well, if this is taken today then the baby is definitely premature
but if the mommy is feeding him/her then it's ok
let mommy do her work

OK, then for now, leave the mom and her joey by themselves. Is the dad with them?

I worry this would reoccure next time if you breed her, so you should retire them from breeding in future.

Yes, do not touch it. What I meant is monitor. If the joey looks like a raisin, skin and bones showing, you have no choice but to hand feed or it would die. But if the mom is still feeding now, best to let it be.

Yes, the dad is with them. I will try to reconsider to breed her or not next time, propably won't cuz i don't want the same thing happen again. Thanks again. Will update if anything happens.

That's y u need proper planning when it involves breeding.. Just make sure the joey is ok first.. When it is stronger, then the Dad for neutering.. Dad plays an important role, of keeping joey warm, while Mom go play and feed herself.

It's a good parental instinct of gliders to take turns taking care joey. smile.gif
