You mean before or after introduction of Steam.

When I first had to deal with Steam in order to play Half Life 2, it was truly a pain.

tell me about it man, back than (2005) streamyx havent come to my place yet, using old 56k modem

i have to update steam, unlock HL2, update HL2 total took 7 hours in order to play that game....

When HL2 rolled in, Steam was actually pretty damned decent already. During the CS 1.6 launch was when it was really really shit.

Yep. I first installed Steam for Condition Zero, I think.

Oh btw, if I bought Modern Warfare 2 retail (but the copy still ties in with Steam anyway) can I buy the DLC off Steam? I'm asking this coz for Borderlands, Steam DLCs won't work with retail copies.
