Hi guys, noob new. Been reading a bit on the AC Ryan threads, thought I can get some help here...
I have: 1. POHD RTD1073DD r3582 1.5TB builtin HDD connected this way: POHD HDMI to FullHD LCDTV POHD coaxial digital audio to AVR (old one, no HDMI) 5.1 2. POHD Mini RTD1073DD C+ r3582 2TB ext HDD connected this way: POHD HDMI to AVR (new) 5.1 to FullHD LCDTV I have this TV flickering problem with setup1. Sometimes, it flickers and return to normal; sometimes it flickers and TV screen stays blank. I have tried changing things around, but results were: - POHD mini does not have the coaxial audio output, not used in setup1, problem does not arise - switching on POHD or TV first does not make a difference - using different HDMI cables appear to make some difference but problem does not go away - toggling audio settings between passthrough and SPDIF seem not to make a difference Where might the problem be? The use of the coaxial audio? TV? Anything I can do? In addition, what is the "DVD" option for in the menu after browser? Thanks a million! This post has been edited by AVFAN: Nov 14 2010, 12:06 PM |

What's you Setup 1 Video settings in your POHD setup menu? HDMI Auto or HDMI 1080i / 1080P ? If it's auto try changing to fixed resolution or vise versa, see if it helps.
DVD Menu is for displaying the DVD Menu when you are playing a DVD movie (same Menu you see when playing a DVD Disc in a DVD player). (Provided you have copied or ripped the whole DVD contents intact to your HDD). |

Thanks for response.DVD Menu is for displaying the DVD Menu when you are playing a DVD movie (same Menu you see when playing a DVD Disc in a DVD player). (Provided you have copied or ripped the whole DVD contents intact to your HDD). I tried various video settings - HDMI auto, HDMI 1080p/50Hz, 1080p/60Hz - doesn't help with the TV flickering. DVD menu - how to use it? Say I have a copied DVD folder in the HDD. I usually go to USB, select folder, play folder - it'll work like a DVD. How would that be different using "DVD" and not "USB"? |

Ok, maybe I didn't understand you correctly the first time. I thought you were talking about the DVD Menu option which appears when you press the 'Menu' button on the remote.
The DVD option that you were referring to in the Browser screen is for you to connect an external USB DVD drive to play DVD discs. You have to select that option instead of USB option when you want to play a DVD disc. But to tell you the truth not all Optical drives are supported and you have to try your luck. Sometimes certain FW also cause some problems with the drive like not being able to eject etc. As for your HDMI problem, Why not just try the other modes as well 1080i/720P etc. since you are already at it. After that try connecting to another HDMI port on your TV. You might also want to try adjusting your TV options or maybe even try a differnt FW version. Normal DVD/BD players won't have this, right? Will play around a bit more to see if I can pinpoint the problem. I now strongly suspect the TV not able to catch up with the changing signals direct from the POHD. The TV is 2 years old, 100Hz. This problem doesn't show up if the POHD is connected via HDMI to AVR first. I guess the AVR does a good job in handling the signals. Maybe just wait for the old AVR w/o HDMI to kaput, get new one!! Anyway, I am one happy POHD owner. One of the lowest cost gadgets I ever bought that gives such great pleasures!! Added on November 14, 2010, 4:42 pmA question asking on behalf of a fren... The ACRyan DVR... can it record Astro BYond stuff? Will it be 1080i Dolby 5.1? Thanks! This post has been edited by AVFAN: Nov 14 2010, 04:42 PM |

I think the AC Ryan DVR can only record through composite cable (the Yellow/white/red cable). Tell your friend don't get his hopes high This post has been edited by Ngto: Nov 14 2010, 06:58 PM |
