As for PlayOn!HD mini, it cannot support keyb/mouse. But for HD2 and mini2, it can, any brand will do.

mini2 chipset is RT1185, has network port and more powerful.
Essential chipset is RT1055, which is low-end, no network port but can insert hard disk inside.

So, from the price, u can know that the different. But if u want is standalone and just play HD movies, essential is more than enough for u to use.
Cheers.

Hi BB,

Thinking of upgrading my original PlayOn HD. Which one will be a better option, Playon HD2 or Veolo?

Thx

If your budget is enough, go for Veolo. Advantages:
1. 100% web browser.
2. TV series from Le.TV (AC Ryan signed agreement with Le.TV and most of online streaming is free for the moment now)
3. Android games.

Veolo price RM859 is not expensive if you consider RF remote control, built-in wifi-n and RF keyboard and mouse.

Thanks.

As my original Playon HD died on me after a good period of service, I bought myself a Mini 2 as a replacement last week. To my dismay, I find that it keeps rebooting on me randomly.

The mini 2 connection is as follows: TV > Homeplug > Switch > NAS

I've flashed the firmware to the latest version available 9.5.5 r5440 and still the same. Any suggestions?

Hi PlayON!HD Mini2 Owners,

due to several problems regarding the autoscan function which makes the unit go into an infinite reboot loop here is a little how-to fix this problem. The main reason this happens is because some files/folders are damaged on the external USB Storage (HDD) due to unexpected shutdowns for example. Second reason can be that the actual scan database is corrupted for a simliar reason.
You have basically 2 ways of doing this:

I. repair the HDD:
1. connect your external storage device (HDD) to the PC
2. let the Operating System scan the HDD and fix the errors or do a chkdsk /f from the dos command prompt.
3. on the HDD delete the '.THEATER' folder (this will remove the database)
4. in Windows use Safe Removal Tool to remove the HDD
5. disconnect the USB Cable and connect it back to the Mini2 and power it on

The unit should come back as expected and work normal again. If this fails for some reason and the unit is still rebooting please try II.

NOTE: before shutting down the player when connected with an external USB Storage device press the 'Eject' Button to safe remove the HDD from the Mini2 first.

II. disable autoscan storage
1. switch on the player without any usb storage connected
2. goto SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Autoscan Storage and disable this option
3. goto SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Clear History Function and switch this on (pre r4585) or just press 'Enter' to clear the cache and history (r4585+)
4. at this point i'd recommend to follow the steps provided in I. as well just to make sure the HDD is properly cleaned / fixed.
5. plug back in the external device (HDD) to the Mini

NOTE: before shutting down the player when connected with an external USB Storage device press the 'Eject' Button to safe remove the HDD from the Mini2 first.

NOTE: Please be aware that if you have corrupted files/folders on your HDD and you scan them or let them fix they might get deleted. So if you have important files on the HDD backup them first before fixing!

Questions / Suggestions?

best regards,

I had my mini2 unit changed but the problem persisted ie hang continued. Changing to an Asus yielded the same hang problem.

Seems the possible root cause for this hang problem is my HDD may be "failing". It is more than 2 years old and my NAS is left on 24/7. So, will invest in a new HDD when I get the time over the coming weekend. Hope that will solve the whole problem

yes, think you have identified the problems.

i hv pohd and mini (not the 2s). i reported the slow-hang problem here some time ago. just deactivate the autoscan, set clear history on, it'll go away.

i also reported the repeat rebooting issue here. it happens every time i copy or transfer a file (ok with delete) between hdds using the player. boxb had said there's a bug, so i'm still waiting for new firmware.

i find one new problem lately - when you pause (not stop) a movie, it sometimes become hard to resume play. takes >30secs to stop it, paly again. sometimes, it just hang, need to reboot. probably related and compounding other problems.

boxb.... when is new firmware that will fix all this coming?! biggrin.gif

Thanks dragon, but it's not convenient for me to travel all the way to KL just for it.
I hope someone who is now using the dongle, just let me know the brand & model, like aztech? asus? or d-link??
& their model no.

You can try find some dongle that use Realtek wifi chip, RTL8191, 8192 and its variants. Asus USB N10 is one of them and used with success.
Its not difficult, just plug in and connect/configure like your PC to wireless.

tq!

btw, any chance you toyed enough with the deleo?
is the direct streaming good enough with unifi vip5, vip10?
will a 720p ac3 file come out nicely? 1080p dts?

delayed buying deleo due to it not having an rca digital audio ouput which i need for an old receiver.
and hdd prices, ext or built in now increased so much, some shops raised 30%!
