Yes, it probably is.

But you can't buy Gothic 3: The Forsaken Gods from Steam at all.

Shogun: Total War series for USD7.46 is a bit steep considering that the game is really really old.

Yeah. Can't really expect them to have all the games at the lowest price. biggrin.gif Still, it's a tad but surprising that the price for Mass Effect & Dragon Age series in GamersGate are actually lower compared to Steam. I'm not complaining though; it's a good improvement to prevent Steam from monopolizing the DD market.

Probably get Capcom games from here (ie. Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet series), getting annoyed with region restriction from Steam (also my HDD allocated specifically for Steam is running out of space)

Downloading Gothic 4 from Gamers Gate at the moment.

Slightly faster than Steam, a lot faster than GOG.

Where is Gamers Gate saving my download to?

Err... it depends on the directory you've entered. Can I confirm if you're downloading the downloader client or the game itself? GamersGate is slightly confusing in the sense that the first download you initiated is actually to download the downloader client.

Let's say you want the game file to be downloaded into E: directory, what you need to do is to move the downloader client into the E: directory & run it. The client will then download the game files into a GamersGate Temporary Folder in E: directory. Once the game files download is completed, you can move BOTH the downloader client (it's also an authentication client to get the installation started) & the GamersGate Temporary folder to the computer / directory you want the game to be installed. This is useful if you download the game in your office, copy them into your external HDD & bring 'em back for installation.

I'll recommend that you change the folder name into something else for each game & burn a copy for future installation. Let's say you bought 5 GamersGate game, download the first game, install it, rename the temporary folder as Game A & save it somewhere else. Repeat the same for the subsequent 4 games.

Currently the downloader client is in My Documents\Downloads

The game is being downloaded there.

Can I move the game once it's done from there to someother drive?

Yup, you can. Just move both the downloader client & the GamersGate Temporary Folder to the drive you wanted the game to be installed on once the download is completed.

Remember to rename the GamersGate Temporary Folder once the download is completed for each game. You wouldn't want to have a few games residing in the same folder, do you? unsure.gif

Cool, thanks for that advice.

Hopefully, it'll be done by the time I get home.

8.40gb for Gothic 4 is gonna take awhile.

My take on Gamers Gate:

Pros:
1. Easy to download and install
2. DRM less intrusive compared to Steam and Stardock Impulse
3. Website is better laid out compared to Stardock Impulse
4. Region restriction not as rigid as Steam.
5. Some games are available in Gamer's Gate and are not available in Steam (my case was Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods).

Cons:
1. Backup of games takes some getting used to
2. Speed of download fluctuates a lot (probably due to Streamyx)
3. No Steamwork games (not fair to Gamers Gate though)
4. No automatic update / patch for games

Very few cons compared to pros (and most generally not Gamers Gate's fault)

In my opinion, some games are better to get from Gamers Gate (especially those without DLCs). Such as, Dead Rising 2, Gothic series and etc.

Not to mention it's also a good site for finding those obscure European games.

I am targeting to get Risen from Gamer's Gate next.

My Steam list is far too bloated now.
