Just sharing my experience with it. Just bought Steel Fury and gives you Volvo Free if you create a profile now smile.gif What's not to like.. a free game! lol.

I like:
-no client
-fast
-alternative selection of games not in steam.

Dislike (kinda)
-Installation cannot be made manually. It is done automatically and it requires internet connection to be performed properly.
-no support for download manager
-I have to copy a folder and GG's downloader if i want it on a diff machine.

That's it so far.. i'll update when i see something amiss.

Service review by Kianweic:
My take on Gamers Gate:

Pros:
1. Easy to download and install
2. DRM less intrusive compared to Steam and Stardock Impulse
3. Website is better laid out compared to Stardock Impulse
4. Region restriction not as rigid as Steam.
5. Some games are available in Gamer's Gate and are not available in Steam (my case was Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods).

Cons:
1. Backup of games takes some getting used to
2. Speed of download fluctuates a lot (probably due to Streamyx)
3. No Steamwork games (not fair to Gamers Gate though)
4. No automatic update / patch for games

Very few cons compared to pros (and most generally not Gamers Gate's fault)

In my opinion, some games are better to get from Gamers Gate (especially those without DLCs). Such as, Dead Rising 2, Gothic series and etc.

NOTE:
Your same account works for both US/UK site.

As most people will just click to latest post,no updates unless its a big thing. All promotions will usually be at latest post *mostly by Talexeh.*

Eh, I thought Gamer's Gate only available in US?

How did you managed to  buy the games from them?

Just curious.

The discounts looked really tempting though.
*
Well, so far i've not seen region lock on it. It accepts my paypal account fine, and its tied to a local bank too. I don't like to only depend on Steam. Who gives cheapest gets my moolah biggrin.gif. I might give impulse/D2D a try if i find the games i'm looking for.

Ashx did you have to download each game by itself since there is no download manager.

How do you resume when your line breaks?
*
yeah, like chia said. You will have a folder called "GamersGate Temporary files" and an .exe file that's actually a downloader of a sort with the game's name. You will need to sign on to download/install. That's the biggest drawback i guess, tho you can just copy off the installed game folder later. If someone were to install in an offline comp would be a hassle i suppose...

I try to get Volvo the Game. Then it said, the game cannot be bought from your location. I thought its free.

Anyway, I able to checkout the Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942....

So I think somehow it got region also.
*
Weird... I tried downloading it. Got the downloader.. and downloaded till 10%. No prob for me. Tho its just 600 mb or so. biggrin.gif When you said get the game... did you get it from your game? or you click normally from the shop?

P.S. Urrgghhh Region locked!!! damn. Bioshock 1+2! Not too shabby lol. USD10 cheaper lol

I've check thru the price... aren't much attractive as Steam. At least for me.
I was looking into this

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-W40KP/warhamm...of-war-platinum
Normal Price was $29.95, 50% Discount would be $14.97

But in Steam
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1120/

The same package cost me on normal price $14.97 only. if there's at least a 50% discount or more, it would be less than $10 already.
LOL
Can't get the steam link you're referring to. unless its this? DoW - Platinum Which is $29.99 now.

If i had to choose, i'd tend to lean on a vendor that don't let me choose where i want to install my game! That's pretty much my beef on steam. Can't they just give us an option or something? It can be done but meh.. to go thru links and what nots for every game...

Forgot to put the link to that website that shows all sales: Here

Go to the second tab on top, shows Impulse, Steam, Direct Drive and GamersGate

Updated very very quickly, helped me not miss some good sales on non Steam platform before  smile.gif

And yes, to be able to choose where you install the games is a good point in my opinion too.
*
Yeah i use that as well... Just not many know about it. So for the benefit of those who just browse around. And discuss non steam sales.

Perhaps you try searching for anthology version of DoW using the US proxy.

http://www.steampowered.com/?cc=us

Anthology cost $14.99 only
*
Weird can't seem to use it.

So far Disc 3 is reviewed as inferior to King's Bounty/HoMM V. I have King's and i'm tired of HoMM series for now. I can wait for it to go on sales smile.gif

It's not a DLC per se, as in sprite pack and such. It's a gameplay balance mod done by reputable HoI 3 modder sanctioned by Paradox. It will not appear in your dlc but as a mod in the mod section.

I've been enjoying HoI 3:SF quite a bit while outstation. Slow paced and crushing poland icon_idea.gif Though i have yet to scatch the surface with all the production/tech etc... just doing battles for nowheheh.

Nice, I did look at HoI3 yesterday but didnt see that one.
Seems interesting, much better than sprite pack really but would have expected this to be free though...
Vanilla game is quite lacking in faction specific units
*
Then you should get his I.C.E mod which is free. It defer from this DLC as it tries to be historically balanced.

Here are the goodies for common weapon DLC.

I'm for one don't like to put everything to one, just me against monopoly biggrin.gif who ever gives better deals gets my vote. community/browser. etc etc those are small issues as compared to game selections and price. Consumer FTW!

And for steams Paradox sales.. their selections are waayy too limited compared to GG's offer.

Could be several reasons:

1. He does not want to open another DD account
2. His Bioshock 2 is on Steam
3. He prefers the delivery from Steam.

and etc.

Not everyone makes a decision based on price.

Similar to my case, Starcraft 2.

If I wanted to save money, I'll just get it from Battlenet for less than RM200 instead of buying retail copy from Deimos which is RM235 (including postage)
*
buying digital and retail is a differend thing. If i like the game a lot and i want to get it for collection and what not.. yes i'd do the same. It's just for those who are not in the know that there are other options rather than following the crowd that you must buy in steam brows.gif In any case, your money you do what you want with it whistling.gif

Urghh.... todays damage.

Achtung Panzer USD9.98
Combat Mission Shock Force USD4.97

But i like, since its kinda hard to get these and it's not in steam.

KianW.. did you finish your CMSF?

You usually have to go to the GG site and it should be under the game in your account.

Nowadays, most game patches works with all digitally downloaded games unless stated by DDs. For instance, il2/Steel fury/Achtung panzers for me, downloaded patch from game dev works. One thing kinda pisses me are highly modded games on steam. It's a pain to have a game with differend versions/mods e.g IL2. differend folders. 1 folder for SP, 1 for MP and 1 for mod testing and such.
