but the modder (kabaldan, etc) still have to use Moto kernel, they can't create their own kernel. like now Moto latest kernel got the DSI bugs, and nobody can do anything about it but wait for Moto to fix it.

oh. so basically what does a kernel do ?

Upgraded to Froyo using the MSU over the weekend. Didn't notice the bugs a lot of people are mentioning about online. I did a hard reset before I updated.

There seems to be a slightly longer wait time for apps to launch, but it's nothing serious. The browser now seems way more functional and snappy in 2.2. I couldn't stand using it in 2.1.

My milestone after updated 2.2 via MSU feel not so smooth & sluggish as compare to 2.1. But i can install more application now. Sometimes feel like wanna downgrade back to 2.1 Eclair as it is much faster & smoother? hmm.gif

Updated 2.2 through MSU, used for 1 days now. Battery seems to drain alot faster than 2.1. ohmy.gif

One thing to note is the operating speed, maybe is faster than 2.1, but passively it feels otherwise. sad.gif It's somehow slower and less consistance, from my findings it's due to the new animation system.

In 2.1, when you press an app icon from drawer or homescreen, it immediately starts the animation, which expand/zoom at the same time the application loads . If an app needs longer time to load, the screen will be zoomed in, blank with title bar, then maybe for few seconds the application will be loaded, which is fine, at least user will get somekind of feedback.

In new 2.2, when you do the same thing, the app will be loaded first, then only the animation will start(screen expend/zoom in), together with complete loaded app GUI. So, imagine this, when an app needs 5 seconds to load up, then after you pressed on an icon its like system just paused and unresponsive, until the app is ready to open... doh.gif which i belive lead to slow load time and slugishness that many users felt...

Really Hope Moto will update at least one more time to addressing above issues... hmm.gif

The kernel is the "heart" of every operating system out there. It manages the hardware on your phone, making things such as the processor, buttons and display do their work.

The Milestone bootloader checks if the kernel is signed (verified) before the kernel is allowed to be loaded into the device's RAM. Hence, the kernel in Milestone cannot be modified as it will change its signature.

Android uses the Linux kernel, which is also open source software.

Using CM 6.1.2 now as the newer CM 7 doesn't multitask well.

Tried CM7, but my phone become sluggish and need to reboot after some time. Decided to try FroyoMOD and so far satisfied with the rom. Definitely better than leaked froyo rom that I tried before.

Without Bootloader RSA key, can't hack and decompile Motorola's Kernel, mod and fix any kernel bugs, even add any module in kernel becomes impossible.

i.e: Milestone RAM is not enough for heavy application, but there is other wayto solve this, that is using SWAP memory with SDCard. But the kernel lack of SWAP module, so no one can do anything on it, even if you have the ability to mod the kernel.

So there is someone in XDA raise a brut Bootlooder RSA key project.
Going to join but unable to link the project server.

Added on March 30, 2011, 4:47 pmCurrently using MIUI, so far so good.
No need to pull the Drawer anymore, won't always re-load those icons to CACHE that taking time.

But unfortunately, WiFi Tethering Hotspot will not working.

So it is still back to the Bootloader problem that restrict the mod.

Can inject the swap function on fast boot but can't do permanently on kernel bcoz of the boot loader locked...so everytime reboot u need to fast boot with Adb to enable swap...heheh..
