Or you could just switch to Caltex petrol/diesel for a few tanks? Isn't it the same effect? That's what I'm doing now since I can't find any either.

Alternatively you can look for the BMW Fuel System Cleaner Plus which is basically rebranded Techron

I just bought one caltex techron concentrate plus for my bmw 523i which has been suffering from slight misfiring probably from the gummed up valve.

Surprise surprise, it cured the problem after just on one full tank. For RM35, I think its worth the money

That explains why it's still not that easy to find, guess we'll have to wait until July for it to be available at most Caltex stations.

Sugest u go through the MSDS sheet available in Caltex MY.
It's not "recommended" for diesel engines; diesels should use Techron D Concentrate which is not available in Malaysia.
So, use at ur own risk (I did smile.gif)

Use other branded diesel fuel injector cleaner... no choice. Some cleaner comes with octane booster, so I think better not to mix between petrol and diesel.

I use this together with Caltex fuel, since I pump them regularly.

It says only to pour in 5000KM or 10000KM interval.

I not sure if it will be same experience with others, but this thing works as acclaimed and according to those reviews, feeling a lot more smoother and willing to go on my car, even though I have been using Nano WS2 + Lambda combo recently before my oil change.

I also used it on my home old Kembara non-DVVT that suffers on serious pinging (No choice, that engine lacks power and with short ratio AT, every rev > 3500RPM the pinging is annoying), I would not say it totally goes away but I now only hear the pinging on certain random time, since the car is 16 years old and never been overhauled.

Because it is so "crappy" and BMW also OEM Techron Cleaner with their branding.

STP, never worked a thing. Prestone I don't know. I am happy with it's effect, that's it. The other brand that works is Lambda.

I've been looking for this for a long time. KIA recommends this as a fuel system cleaner if their recommended one is not available.

In general, from the reviews, this seems to be one of those things that work. I'll be giving it a try in my ride once I'm done with my current tank of petrol, and another on a 5 year old Saga to see if there's any difference.

5000KM or 10000KM up to your preference. If you are pumping Caltex regularly, I think 10K interval will do.

Or just do it everytime after you service, since it is mostly 5000 or 7000 or 10000KM.

i manage to get at rm20 per botol
my car full tank from 300km manage to go for extra 100km = 400km, worth it right?
*
u mean fuel saving?
many years back i did pour 1 stp injector cleaner on my old audi 2.3, drive from penang-kl 334km uses 28.9 litre of fuel. another instance without using injector cleaner, used 31 litre something of fuel for same distance.

so i guess injector cleaner does help in minor fuel saving, but not exclusive to techron only. anyhow, it's been 5 years i've never use any injector cleaner and my car still going..

whenever the thread/staff/bulk/group buy whatever shows up, count me in tongue.gif

also i went to caltex Jalan ipoh on the way home, to my surprise that station closed down, for renovation or for good no idea... but it was pitch black with entrance blockaded

so the next nearest caltex is caltex selayang:
https://plus.google.com/+JasonLimQuazacolt/posts/MM9zPuS2ip2 wanted 6 as it's promotion period (rm35 instead of 45) however they only got 4

so ya basically sapu'd caltex selayang sweat.gif
as it was late i had to deal through the counter window thingy, the other customers stared at my techron bottles as if they never seen it before and why i so giler buy so many lol...

there were like 3-4 customers, had a queue cuz the dude dunno what it is, and when he found it, he had to go look for more stocks since i wanted more. maybe the guy that served me happen to be noob, and after asking his supervisors or something he managed to get it.

i bought it mainly for the iswara, because just a month or so after my sis took over it starter engine knocking/pinging already sweat.gif

chances are the recent shit weather is the main cause, but i won't deny on carbon build up. the techron bottle label did mention on reducing engine knocking/pinging rolleyes.gif

read the pictures that i have included on what it does/instructions/benefits

chances are older car will have more to clean than a new car, so supposedly you'd gain more on using it on older car than a new car.

it doesn't however forbid you on using it on a new car which you can use it as a form of preventive maintenance (eg: preventing carbon to ever build up)

Just pour into your fuel tank and re-fuel. Need not think so much.

1 gallon = 3.78 Litre... so you do the maths.

The bottle is 12oz, 1 oz to 1 gallon. But you don't really need to care unless your fuel tank is larger than that, then it is recommended that you pour in 2nd bottle during next refuel.

I can't possibly be assuring you that it will help, cause I am not selling the product either. But just that as to me, it works on whatever car I tested, be it my 16 years old kembara, to 5 years old City/Civic/Merc. And IMHO, RM35 is not too much hurt to try?

And also IMHO, engine flushing wise... Use Lambda Primer Set will yield better result and more economical.

of course, flush engine is only flushing the lubrication system not the fueling system, if you've have never cleaned the manifold, never removed the injectors for cleaning, never done a top overhaul, never did decarbonizing

all that gunk is still stuck in the injectors, on the valves, intake manifold

of course, flush engine is only flushing the lubrication system not the fueling system, if you've have never cleaned the manifold, never removed the injectors for cleaning, never done a top overhaul, never did decarbonizing

all that gunk is still stuck in the injectors, on the valves, intake manifold

ok, maybe should give a try, but at my place their state price RM45 laugh.gif

Just went there to bought the last bottle. Before this I went to the Caltex near Centrepoint BU as I remember someone posted that there were quite a lot of stocks there but they are out of stocks as well. Both stations however mentioned that new stocks will be arriving either tomorrow or Tuesday. biggrin.gif

Their mart is 7-Eleven so no oils/lubricants/additives in there. You'll have to look outside near one of the pump there's a small shelf that keeps all these products, approach a staff to get it.

It was me maybe, I posted it on 2nd July, mentioned that 28 bottles left on that time as I bought 2 bottles. At RM35 each. tongue.gif

Btw, anyone who tried it experience FC is higher?
Mine is Myvi 1.5 AT, poured 1 bottle into the tank and pumped full tank of Shell RON 95... 1st 3 petrol bar only managed to clock around 70KM (usually clock atleast 80-90KM after used 3 bars). Right now still have 3 bars left with and clocked around 180KM. sweat.gif

So far my FC is more or less the same. Perhaps the Techron additive don't really like to be mixed with Shell's fuel? laugh.gif

To be safe, I pumped Caltex fuel after pouring in the Techron Concentrate Plus, treat it like extra Techron power. flex.gif

They recommend every 5,000km but I guess every 10,000km would be more economical? Most modern engines nowadays have an OCI of 10,000km so can pour it in during each engine oil change like a ritual. laugh.gif

They are not doing any press release or something for this? Seems like a pretty sought after product.

haha... got poisoned by this discussion! I went and bought myself 2 bottles!

If you all still want, there are at least 10 bottles on the counter of Caltex Centerpoint! Just got the bottles there just now.

Actually, RM35 is not cheap. It's just average price to me.

RM35 is not cheap but once promo is over, it'll be RM45. As for me, I'm planning to use it every 20,000km which is equivalent to an average car's 1 year mileage.

So far not much different in terms of feel but at least I can have a peace of mind that the intake valves, combustion chamber and all will be cleaner with this concentrate.

Yes, from the directions on the bottle, pour it to an almost empty tank and then fuel up. 1 bottle is good for treating 45L of fuel if I remember correctly.

Most of the fuel system cleaner works as in pour the bottle into a near empty tank then fill it up and use it till almost empty.

I used to think that pour the bottle into a near empty tank and drive it around first till almost (99%) empty and then fill it up! rclxub.gif haha....

Doesn't matter, RON (octane number) does not influence the cleaning capabilities. Just stick back with your usual brand of fuel will be good enough.

Most but not all, I remember STP recommending to pour it to a half tank of petrol instead. Not sure what's the logic though since either way, we will still be fueling it up to a full tank right away. hmm.gif

Well too bad some people still think that Techron is some marketing gimmick without doing their research.

There is a reason why Obama's Limo pump only Caltex during his visit in MY.

there is some improvement with the additive in the tank, the key is if it retains the same performance in the next tank

First 100km; felt marginally smoother and quieter, but the revving is very obvious. It is screaming; rev me to redline. I think my FC will suffer.
It is in 2 cars now, estima clocking 340000km and polo 90000km.

Yes. Often, people wanted to feel huge difference to judge whether a thing works a single bit. What they don't see is, they are actually preventing the carbon build up in the first place.

Same theory to VTEC, Turbocharger alike (aka must feel the VTEC kick in, must feel the turbo lag then sudden boost baru syok), if too smooth then complain not working lol but actually it is more efficient.

If you buy into whatever they market, just follow your heart. For me, I know Techron is proven and patented, and happened so my car works best on that, followed by BHP and Primax.

And because Techron is by Chevron, and Chevron fuel is kind of premium grade and also premium pricing in USA.

Actually this fuel system cleaner is used for a 12 gallon fuel tank, which is equivalent to 45l. Most of D segment cars (or some C segment) are more than this capacity. That's why BMW's system cleaner has a bigger volume!

4 bottles available at Caltex beside Giant at Bayan Lepas, Penang. Bought 1 bottle to try out.

At 1st bought for RM45 after questioning them about the outrageous price (Price tag printed was RM145 lol). After 1 hour of driving I decided to fill in petrol at the same Caltex petrol station. That was when I saw the big sticker promoting techron concentrated plus for RM35 till 31 August 2014. Took a picture and went inside to question them again (I brought the bottle along as I still haven't use it). Initially the lady at the counter said maybe it is because that stock is old and the price for old stock is RM45. I told her that this product is new and it is at introductory stage, how can it be old stock? Plus the sticker clearly says it is till 31st August 2014. Told her to check properly again. After calling someone on the phone, she finally refunded me RM10.

Glad to get it cheaper but the staffs are really doh.gif

Here it is. It is beside the pumps, where they put the wiper cleaners. Easily spotted when refilling the car. smile.gif

Need advice.. Planningto use on my 8 y/o camry just above 200k mileage.. Currently full tank around RM120 can go about 630km..

So if i use this product, it will increase my mileage?

How to use? when tank empty, pour this bottle into the fuel tank and refill? any recommendation on what fuel to use?

It may increase the travelling distance of your car if your car's fuel injectors and etc are in need of cleaning, which is probably the case considering your car's mileage.

I used this even with slightly more than half a tank. You just need to push down on the cap to remove it, poke a hole through the seal of the bottle, and cucuk it into your fuel filler hole and let it flow out. Once you're done, fuel your car up.

Seems like a repeating cycle that stocks are out by weekend, then new stocks will arrive around Monday/Tuesday. Perhaps they are doing this to keep the hype alive. laugh.gif

No not selling, for own use. Assuming 10K mileage per bottle, it will be quite fast finish with a few cars around. And it is going to be expensive later on, so just stock it up.

Apparently this is only one of few that contains polyether amine or pea, which other cleaners don't , the rest mostly kerosene or benzene

Dunno about Mercedes but bmw Rembrandt this as their injector cleaner

No point buying at RM35 to resell it back later anyway, there will be plenty of stocks in the future once the promo is over. People now sapu it as they can save RM10 per bottle which is a lot if you are stocking it up for your future use. biggrin.gif

those are octane boosters, while this product is a cleaner

also FIY, to raise 2 octane levels you'd require a significant amount of octane boosters (or the better products that's more expensive)

lol didn't stock up, only bought 4, and i guess it's going to be 1 for each car. maybe i'll buy more soon ish, depending on how the iswara goes. atm it isn't doing much of a miracle for me:

update again on the TCP for iswara:

re-advanced the ignition, while the knocking only happens around 6-7k rpm (no reason to push more if it's already knocking), it's still knocking nonetheless so i had to retard the ignition again.

to be fair, it's only less than 10km or something after i filled the tank with TCP, maybe it'll take a while for the cleaning action to work it's way through.

and i guess it is working when the knocking already happens regardless of rpm so long you floor the throttle and can happen as early as 3k rpm or so.
so in the end it is still a minor improvement, just not solving it completely (yet, anyways) as i hoped it to be smile.gif

After driving for a week to clear off a bottle of this additive with a full tank of petrol, I don't feel much difference in terms of smoothness and performance. Perhaps mine was already pretty clean but this will still give me a peace of mind as a preventive maintenance measure. biggrin.gif

Yeap. Don't expect miracles from the bottle. blush.gif

But it's a good preventive maintenance that is dirt cheap. I hope no one follows the intervals Chevron stated at the bottle though. blush.gif

Basically it acts like a cleaning agent. And continuously cleaning it ain't gonna make the car go faster, saves more fuel. Just like all the oil manufacturers, they'd want you to change your oil as frequent as possible without a blink. Just gotta be smart and balance that yourself.

think of it as cleaning a filter, eventhough the filter is somewhat clogged you don't feel the difference, and even after replacing the filter you still find it hard to feel the difference but there definitely is

Lol this thread necro-ed by me right after I got my first bottle.

P/S: Check out those idiots comment at Paultan TCP post... Totally non-sense. Saying that TCP does not work because it does not give additional 10HP, or saying that just rev the engine kao kao every month will clear off any deposits. So to say BMW = Idiot, according to them since BMW repacked this.

I guess Caltex is trying to pull in long term customers by saying this so that car owners will refuel at their stations? hmm.gif

Hmmm guess with forum like this thread the sales will be good. Ignore those sour grapes.

Well I buying this just to clean my ten year old engine. Not to expect to give out gazillion hp out of it. Perhaps if u try on old sports car u can feel the difference.

I also worried if chevron malaysia feel like the sale of this concentrate did not pull people into their fuel stop they will discontinue it

Hmmm guess with forum like this thread the sales will be good. Ignore those sour grapes.

Well I buying this just to clean my ten year old engine. Not to expect to give out gazillion hp out of it. Perhaps if u try on old sports car u can feel the difference.

I also worried if chevron malaysia feel like the sale of this concentrate did not pull people into their fuel stop they will discontinue it
*
I doubt they will discontinue it since this is like their "flagship" additive so that users of other petrol brands can still get the Techron goodness for their car.

That's true... This TCP is like a "bread and butter" proven stuff over many countries. Ok leave the USA alone since it is originated from there, and from Chevron which sells premium fuel in the states.

I first came across this and google up review last time when I send my mom's old BMW to service, since BMW rebottled them and uses them also.

Yea, you don't need a magic spell to activate it.

Merc fuel tank is slightly larger, so maybe a 2nd treatment would be good.

Good news - the Caltex station at Salak South Garden has plenty of stock! Station owner told me they receive their promotion batch stock late, so they still have much left. Ransacked that place for 10 bottles today...

haha... i pump caltex every time, so no need to use the additive rclxm9.gif

"To use, pour the entire bottle of TCP into a nearly empty fuel tank and refuel with up to 45 litres of petrol. Repeat every 5,000 km for best results. The company says that regular users of Caltex with Techron fuel don’t need the TCP “detox” as it’s the case of “an apple a day…” for them."

But maybe still a good ritual to do it once in a while, I believe the TCP's cleaning agents are still more concentrated than the ones in their petrol.

I'm not sure, but I mainly pump caltex and use cleaner to reduce the carbon deposit, which is formed due to running at rich fuel mixture (high load condition) overtime time. Maybe bhp will create less carbon, but without any cleaning addictive gua.

Actually if you read about BHP's Infiniti Advanced 2X petrol, it is roughly similar to what Techron does. I guess it's just that Techron's marketing power is much better and have been long proven.

Anyone tried this one instead? Redline Complete SI-1 Fuel System Cleaner. Found this on the Net and it is highly recommended, even higher quality rating than the Techron Concentrate Plus. Wonder if it is sold here in MY.

well just got in to work and have to say there is definitely noticeable improvement on the pick up from standstill, my old carbie faithful probably has a different idle circuit and that probably got cleaned up nicely from idling almost all the to and fro work for the last week.

cruising seems to have no change i guess those jets get plenty of fuel when cruising to keep them sufficiently clean

NOOB question here. Does Euro 4 > Euro 3 > Euro 2 in terms that they are better for the engine, or is it just better for the environment (emission standards), or BOTH? If Euro 2 is still pure and clean (good for engine) but just that it cannot meet more stringent emission standards, then it's really no big deal to the main concern of this thread (I know, environmentalist would disagree but let's just leave that to another topic)!

yes, euro rating covers many things but mainly focuses on emissions, the higher the euro grade the less emissions it produces.

while emissions are good for enviroment, what does it mean for your engine?

take one category that euro grading focuses on : sulphur content.

sulphur in the fuel when combusted produces sulphur dioxide. Sulphur dioxide when mixed with water produces sulphuric acid. This acid is what we call 'acid rain' in environmental terms. Now this sulphur dioxide also mixes with the water in your engine, water that comes from the air and as by product of combustion. Because no engine is 100% sealed in the combustion chamber this acid eventually gets into your engine oil and starts degrading it. Since you cant see or feel its effects you normally dont care about it, but it's there and it's eating away at stuff inside your engine

so. Euro 3-4 fuels are good for any engine, not just for the enviroment

I've used it for my scooby. It DOES give me a better throttle response which in return gives better power delivery. On FC side, there's no difference. Perhaps a little more consumption? But depends on the traffic condition, air density etc. So can't conclude on the FC. Need to see 2nd tank without this fuel cleaner.

My current mileage is 67k. Used GUM fuel system cleaner before and this Caltex DOES give more feel than GUM. Price is also 2x! haha tongue.gif

i believe it also able to clean the fuel tank with that cool pump machine. Did not tried on mine but my friend did it.

Because it is dangerous to DIY that techron in my opinion because the tank must be almost used up to have better result as stated on the bottle. Otherwise it is pointless

" To use, pour the entire bottle of TCP into a nearly empty fuel tank and refuel with up to 45 litres of petrol "

Trust me you do not want to risk going nearly empty fuel tank just for this, its very risky later will also cause all kinds of high temperature results or fuel tank too dry etc.

Really want to do it , ask a experienced user/workshop.

why is it dangerous? if you're afraid, you can pour in at half tank or before the fuel warning blinks.

if you're still skeptical, just use caltex fuel only.

yes you're correct by saying going nearly empty fuel tank.. may cause fuel pump overheat or so on. but this has nothing to do at all with using TCP. you can just pour in TCP at blinking fuel indicator level, or last bar, or last 2nd bar.. who ask pour TCP at dry fuel tank??

why not pour TCP when the fuel tank is full you ask? because pour in TCP first, then only pour in fuel can ensure good agitation and mixture of fuel and TCP. if you can poke a stick into your fuel tank pusing pusing a bit, then is okay also.

so just use it normally when you go refuel lo, no need purposely wait till too empty.

I believe this Techron Concentrate is a  fuel system cleaner with added RON value booster.
*
no RON value booster i believe (or it's too little to be noticeable), the redline one should have though since they claim as such.

There is no way to make the fuel feel any better than booster. Cleaning agents does things differently.

well if the injectors/combustion chambers aren't clogged, supposedly there would be better fuel delivery and better combustion.

but of course it could be all placebo anyways tongue.gif
personally as per my 2 feedback, not much difference.

but hey, smoothness aside, most people are using it for the peace of mind (keeping the fuel system clean) anyways wink.gif

I still facepalmed hard at those stupid idiots comment at Paul Tan's post.

"If Caltex is going to give warranty to my engine then I will use it." - Oh crap, I don't know I have been driving a broken engine all way long shakehead.gif

"Useless. Just pump V-Power and tekan. What is this Techron? Never heard before." - rclxub.gif

you know, i wonder what's the fuss with vpower, when i can just load up 97 petronas/bhp and a couple more bottles of octane boosters and then maximum ignition advance laugh.gif

sadly i can't quite do that *yet* with my inspira lol... else it'd be pretty damn fun tongue.gif

QUOTE(Balanced @ Jul 11 2014, 12:10 AM)

Yes so either buy more or perhaps pour in the TCP on a nearly empty tank and fuel up until full, then just ask them to charge all to your CC.

ok 3/4 bottles used, may consider stocking up... why?

butt dyno on the inspira seems better acceleration despite being a 9k km 6 month old car... (well technically it's born in 2012 lol...)

hmm only drove some less than 5km from station to my house, so hard to judge yet, but the throttle seems lighter...
again, butt dyno so take it with a pinch of salt.

iswara/sentra not much difference at all even on butt dyno.

so last bottle still pending the kancil which still got a week of usage to go (damn that low fc car tongue.gif )

I can vouch for the Techron Concentrate Plus. I'm currently in the states and this is by far the most recommended fuel additive that actually works. I use it frequently on my VW and it helps improve the mileage by a noticeable amount. I use a bottle every ~2000km. biggrin.gif

A definite increase in MPG. (I'm in the states and that's what they use laugh.gif) I used to travel the same route almost every weekend and it's about an hour's drive for me. Before using Techron I got about 28MPG at an average of 75MPH. After using it my car managed to get ~31MPG. One thing though, the effect does not last forever. I use a bottle every few thousand km.

I do have to say this though, initially my car had some misfiring issue that was giving me a headache (changed spark plugs, coilpacks etc with no result) and surprisingly this Techron managed to temporarily stop the misfiring issue that I had. Eventually I found out the real cause for the misfiring and got it fixed permanently smile.gif

You used a funnel and it didn't work? Get one that's suitable for cars and not just any normal funnel.

Edit: This is something like the one I got for my friend.

My car is using a DI engine. Technically it will not be able to clean the intake valves because of the nature of direct injection. But it still helps in other ways for my car. smile.gif
You used a funnel and it didn't work? Get one that's suitable for cars and not just any normal funnel.

Edit: This is something like the one I got for my friend.

Actually it might, carbon build up in Di engines is because fuel is hitting the valves during injection causing build up. So if the fuel has detergent like the tcp it may help remove some

I also wasted a bottle of TCP. Was told there is a plastic funnel underneath the spare tyre. Finally manage to fill up a bottle of TCP this time.

Filled up with around 50l of petrol for my first bottle of tcp followed by second bottle with around 30l of petrol. Not sure if the techron concentrated plus does improve the RON rating but the engine does feel very energetic for the second tank.

The only real way to get rid of the carbon deposit on our DI engines is to either get it manually cleaned (which is what I did) or do an Italian tune up. smile.gif

It might help a bit but it won't get rid of the carbon buildup. The fuel does not go through the intake valves in DI engines. For non DI engines you're right, the fuel will hit the intake valves hence cleaning it if the fuel has detergent in it or if an additive is used in the fuel.

Yup, similar experience here. I only pump the equivalent of RON98 here and even then there's still a noticeable improvement. smile.gif

Or use Threebond Engine Conditioner... Since you spray it through the intake.

I had it manually cleaned. The workshop guys removed the intake manifold and soaked the valves in a solution for a couple of hours before scrubbing all the carbon out. BMW has their own procedure for their DI engines which is called walnut blasting. It seems to be a normal procedure for them to have their valves blasted once in a while.

For reference, take a look at how bad the carbon buildup was on my car smile.gif

Yup it's pretty bad. But its common among the VW/Audi 2.0TFSI engines and on the BMW DI engines. Doing a full carbon cleaning once in a while is common practice for owners here. But, an italian tune up every now and then helps keep our valves clean wink.gif

Here's one of the valves after cleaning:

16 years old Kembara
3 years old C200 CGI (2 Bottles)
4 years old FD2R
6 years old Getz

Minor improvements on (Improved FC)

few questions
1) what is the difference between TCP and decarbonizer?
2) i've used decarbonizer about 20k km ago, is it okay to use TCP now? afraid of gasket leak or something in the engine.
3) better to use TCP before or after oil change? planning to use syntium full synthetic after raya.
4) anyone used TCP on proton savvy? any difference? mine is 2008 amt savvy. 93k km on the clock.

thanks for the reply(ies).

Tcp clean injectors, fuel pump, fuel gauge , decarbo only clean valves.
Tcp recommend every 5000km, decarbo doesn't last forever
Nothing to do with lubrication system, totally separate independent systems

Thanks for the input, but i believe it is better to put mileage rather than the age of the car. Some car is 3 years old but already well above 100k km mileage, while some 5 year old car haven't even reach 60k km mileage

come to think of it, after half way down the tank with TCP, whatever butt dyno feel also seems to be gone.

in fact, 300v gave me a whole lot better butt dyno feel than TCP rolleyes.gif

Mine costs USD400. 4 hours of labor at $100/hour.

Btw my car was at ~127,000 miles at that time. So that's more than 200,000km. smile.gif

Car : myvi 1.3 auto ezi 2010
Odometre : 67k+ km
Tires : front 175/65/14 - rear 185/60/14 (33 kPa front n rear)
Products used -
1 - Redline SI-1 and Caltex Techron Concentrate plus
2 - Lubegard red for my ATF

Before : 370-380km per full tank or 11-12km per litre of petrol.
After : 490-500km per full tank or 14-15km per litre of petrol.

Testimonial : i've been driving this vehicle since a year plus and my full tank of petrol till the indicator blinking lasted me roughly 370-380km. Before "Balik kampung", i changed the rear tire to 185/60/14 yokohama blue earth tires, changed the ATF and added in the lubegard red. I also filled up full tank of BHP petrol with whole bottle of redline SI-1.
My journey to kampung took me 250+km and i don't monitor my mileage because of speeding(130km/h on average). I finished the whole tank of petrol at my kampung by jalan jalan.
For my journey back to KL(250km+) , I used the Caltex Techron Concentrate plus with full tank of petronas primax 95. My speed was averaging at 110-120km/h on average. The rest is normal city drive.

Will observe 2nd and 3rd full tank of petrol before conclude that this stuffs work for my car.

"Techron Concentrate Plus is designed for use with spark ignition and hybrid engines/vehicles, and is formulated to work in a broad range of gasoline and ethanol fuels.

For best results, use every 5,000 km."

http://www.caltex.com/my/products-and-serv...ncentrate-plus/

I probably wouldn't use it on a diesel engine since they no say anything about it.

I think your test has too many variables , using different petrol and 3rd party additictives etc. Imo, best test with same petrol and the regular routes you use during your daily drive. Then it would be a better test. My 2 cents.

Because it is so "crappy" and BMW also OEM Techron Cleaner with their branding.

STP, never worked a thing. Prestone I don't know. I am happy with it's effect, that's it. The other brand that works is Lambda.

Never thought BMW repack TCP as their OEM cleaner

i know mercedes also got this kind of cleaner but not sure suitable to DI engine?

QUOTE(ZeroSP @ Jul 4 2014, 04:22 AM)
I can't possibly be assuring you that it will help, cause I am not selling the product either. But just that as to me, it works on whatever car I tested, be it my 16 years old kembara, to 5 years old City/Civic/Merc. And IMHO, RM35 is not too much hurt to try?

And also IMHO, engine flushing wise... Use Lambda Primer Set will yield better result and more economical.

Lambda Premier Set use to flush engine? mind to share link ? i am interest to my 03 wira

QUOTE(pengster @ Jul 24 2014, 03:24 PM)
I had it manually cleaned. The workshop guys removed the intake manifold and soaked the valves in a solution for a couple of hours before scrubbing all the carbon out. BMW has their own procedure for their DI engines which is called walnut blasting. It seems to be a normal procedure for them to have their valves blasted once in a while.

For reference, take a look at how bad the carbon buildup was on my car smile.gif

QUOTE(pengster @ Jul 25 2014, 03:52 PM)
Yup it's pretty bad. But its common among the VW/Audi 2.0TFSI engines and on the BMW DI engines. Doing a full carbon cleaning once in a while is common practice for owners here. But, an italian tune up every now and then helps keep our valves clean wink.gif

Here's one of the valves after cleaning:

I have Lambda Primer Set in stock if you interested, alternatively you can just look for thundergod_cid.

CGI is DI yes, it does not help with the intake valve, but for some reason the below 2500RPM powerband much smoother before the boost came in to help.

Hyundai is using Blue Chem Fuel System Cleaner which is a product from Germany and has TUV standard from Germany, Which also has the similiarity of Caltex Concentrate Plus. anyone does comparison of these?
Also, there is a local product called VSafe which also claims to clean and save fuels but need to be added every fuel up instead of every 5000km

yup Hyundai is distributing that brand Blue Chem, claimed to have TUV certified etc (wonder how do we verify it?) i used it before, but that time my car still new car (meaning the valves, fuel line probably still very clean), so, no effect felt. the VSafe sounds unconvincing economically.. because need to add every fuel pump. unconvenient also need to add every fuel pump

Haven't got time to try it yet.
Personally i think it better by using those Machine, been seen YouTube for fuel cleaner in gas tank, most of it not working as intended.

Try searching in automotive sales tread, typing Carbon cleaner, i think u will find one there.

if you wan to get rid of those carbon in the chamber, water is cheaper and more effective to decarbon than the fuel additive.

sadly, the video does not show the intake valve side. which i think this kind of fuel additive is more effective on compared to cleaning the combustion chamber as the additive is directly sprayed on the valve with high pressure.

i can see it on the cashier counter in the Caltex station i frequented, the one next to 3 Two Square, PJ.

This thing so far only sold thru Caltex station in Malaysia, there was something like a bulk buy here before but i think it can hardly come by now.

It just depends on the availability in the station you visited.
