i'm not so sure about that..i will ask my friend whether he connect to itunes with a microsim or not..he need to activate it with the microsim is it?

So I'm pretty sure you need a microSIM card to activate the iPhone. I am guessing it might work with microSIM that is not active. (Eg. You cut your old SIM card to microSIM size and activate the phone.) Anyone has tested anything yet?

I wonder if it makes a difference it I activate it with my UK SIM or Maxis SIM.

Yes you need microsim card to activate it. Tell your friend to go to o2 shop and get a free pay as you go microsim for iPhone to activate it.

If you're on Celcom, it takes a while to activate since it's technically not a supported telco. Give it time. If it still persist, try reseat the simcard. Make sure when the sim is inserted and slotted in, it is not floating on top of the edges, I had mine like that once and the sim contacts doesn't register a connection because of that. Make sure the sim is properly cut, but also makes sure that it is not smaller than the tray slot, it'll be jangling around in there, or worse, slip out of the tray and end up lost in the sim slot.

Worse come to worse, get another iPhone 4 user and borrow his sim tray. I did that with beavis68 during our iPhone 4 activation and it solves the "No Sim detected" issue. Once you've activated, you can just return the sim tray to its original owner and use back your sim tray.

a friend of mine just left for glasgow, uk, do you guys think its possible to be a walk-in customer and buy iphone 4 off the shelf just like that in an apple store in uk?

and if buy edi, can just bring back to msia and use, cause its officially unlock right? thanks

So in simple terms you have to use the O2 sim and activate the phone via iTunes and not maxis,celcom or digi sim card?
Once you activate via o2 sim, then you can just keep it and put in your malaysian sim right?

Just received email from apple store UK to pickup tomorrow. But from that email it never mention about sim free.

you can use maxis sim card 2 activate it also. i doubt his friend have any microsim so the easiest way to get one is from o2. you dont need to have only o2 microsim but any microsim will do to activate since its sim free


they will ask you in store. just say you want the sim free ones.
