yeh it's been rooted a day after Paul bought the item. that guy is fast!! but as the Streak is not yet available outside UK, i can say it's a bad thing because it means Paul most probably gonna abandon froyo port into Desire and Beta version of Desire rom on Nexus..

hopefully when it reach here it's already loaded with 2.2 Froyo !

This week news alert Dell for the US matrket will released with Froyo 2.2 , bypassing 2.1. Hope the units hitting Msia will be at least 2.1

If available , I will be one of the early bird to buy. I LOVE BIG screens so much I am running Android Froyo on HD2 ( just because of the screen size 4.3 " vs 3.7 on Nexus). I miss the U1000 screen

my cousin just received his from at&t and he feels a bit disappointed with the device especially the default mode which is in landscape and the loose back cover. huhu.. i wonder when Dell really brings it here, can we have chance to test it first, or have no choice but to buy it straight away from Dell Online..

btw,ur cousin should know it if he watch reviews and videos of it...

I could imagine the frustration of the default landscape view while potrait view if wanted to enter settings. It is more of a mini tablet than a phone with it's huge size and the touch sensitive icons in the wrong or right way up.

yep.. but i believe we here do more research and read more reviews compare to them.. because we have nothing but imagination and hope and only thru' reviews and videos we can somehow 'taste' the device as early as them.. haha!

yeah.. the button marking is the first thing i noticed before someone confirmed to me its default mode is in Landscape.

Now I think it's already 2.2.

By year end, its going to be 3.0...

Those China tablets will be a history by then....except a few models such as Huawei S7, running on 2.1. Aigo, heard running on 2.1 also.

you mean Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7 inch ? I heard it's awesome with amoled screen but the price i think it's going to be high..around usd 400-500 range..

I'm looking to purchase an android tablet either this year or next year..for portability n easy to take on the road.

A few are in the making such as Asus EEE Pad 10 inch, Dell 7 inch Looking Glass, MSI 10 inch, CSL 7 inch..too many nowadays.

Prefer to wait a while till the tablets come with more feature such as higher storage, Android 2.2 and above, built-in 3G (a must)...etc

500USD should be around RM 1600 right? But i seriously doubt that price will be as cheap as only RM 1600 judging that Malaysia's smartphone price usually is plain bloodsucking!

I think It would not exceed RM 2500 if it wants to compete in the market woth other smartphones ( eg htc android, samsung androids ). Dell is reputed to sell products at a lower price - just see all their previous Dell PDA phones . Unlock sets selling only us600+

Yea. Dell thing are not that high price compare to its competitor. Hope their streak fall between 500-600USD price tag.

I'm taking some unit soon from the US. But since it's locked, user need to use it with unlocking sim, which resides on top of normal sim. Good thing that it won't interfere with warranty. Price is RM2450 with unlock sim, and RM2400 without. Let me if anybody interested to tag along.

Just do the maths - US600 is RM1920 ( @ 3.2). Shipping costs is most US30, so add another RM100 , costs will be less than RM2100

By the way, do the phone that is initially Network Operator Locked tend to have worse signal reception compared to the worldwide unlocked version?

Cos last time I bought a T-Mobile (used) G1 but ended up sold it out cos my friends all said very difficult to reach me when I was using G1. However, i never heard that signal reception to be a problem to G1, hence that made me think perhaps it has something to do with its initially Network Operator Locked nature? Can someone please clarify?

It might be difficult to compare due to hardware difference. iPhone for instance, I've been using 3GS US unit (JB/unlocked) and it doesn't have significant shortcoming in term of reception. Plus G1 is several generation behind. I'll check for you once the units arrive. It's expected on Thursday.

Just came back from cod with a customer. Now it's confirmed that Rebelsim can be used with Digi, Celcom and Maxis. 3G is working without problem.

Here's short review of my first 30 minutes with Dell Streak.

Touchscreen: To me it's better than nexus in term of accuracy and responsiveness. It's harder to miss a click that I usually do in nexus, especially for touch button. Somehow the touch screen is not solid, where you can see the ripple of liquid if touch at the edge. I think it's okay in the center.

Loudspeaker: It sounds louder than iphone and nexus, and clearer too. The wider opening at the back prevent the speaker from being block.

Screen: Streak's five-inch 800 x 480px lcd has good color saturation, but not over saturated like in amoled. However, viewable angle is not so great for dell. The color seems very easy to be washed out when you add some angle on looking at it. It's not that terrible but it's less that most current model can do.

Built quality: Dell has good built quality. The body feel solid but its not too heavy. It almost feel lighter than 3GS due to its deceiving big body, but upon further inspection, it's a tad heavier than 3GS. The plastic doesn't feel cheap the edges are up to current standard. The back/battery cover it a little bit hard to close, however.

on screen Keyboard: With better touchscreen, I find it easier to type and do less mistake. There is numpad if you use the keyboard in landscape, but not in portrait view. It does not need extra pressure to make sure keys are pressed. Just tap normally and it will do. Touch buttons are bigger than average and helpful in navigating. Non-touch buttons are pleasure to push.

Software: Dell streak seems pretty good running 1.6. There is occasional stutter especially when changing function. ie. from browse to calling. Scrolling to another page is not quiet smooth but I think that can be solved with launcher program, like Pro Launcher.

Shape: Dell is thin and huge at the same time. This might make edges visible if you put on you pants's pockets, or even jeans'. Detached back panel might attract dust at the edges.

Verdict: I don't have time to test all criteria but above are the ones that seems obvious to me. Dell Streak is designed for those who spend less time speaking, and more time for the rest. It's suitable for navigation, browsing, listening to music, video and using apps. Good battery life is also a plus. Rebelsim let you use any kind of sim in Malaysia.

I think that's all from me. Would love to hear from my buyers. Some of my points above my contradicts after hours of usage so I think their experience is much more accurate.

I'll taking more stock for next week. Should arrive after raya. Let me know if you are getting it ya.

U don't have to do anything and everything work including GPS with papago ...
is not as nice as Amoled but not much different between those two, especially on the screen size

btw my unit with 2.1 and without any problem

the Gorilla glass is defiitely good against scratch.. but if the phone drop, it will shattered. i've seen / read few incidents involving iphone4, samsung galaxy s and dell streak, where the so called gorilla glass damages terribly. however the good thing is, the lcd panel is safe.



and with dell streak, i can say it can be worse than other ordinary glass because of the weight of the Streak..
