QUOTE(yankiat @ Jan 17 2011, 06:44 PM) Ok.. just bought 580EX II today and I'm totally noob and newbie in this.. Any site for tutorial or advice on how to use it/settings to get nice photos? Please please dont be stingy on your knowledge Thanks!... Maybe you can learn how to fill-flash 1st? I think this is the most easiest way to learn flash photography for newbies. Then after that, you can learn bounce flash.

Yeah, it depends on your settings or rather how much you rely on flash. My flash mainly for fill purpose only.

The number of shots you can take depends on your flash power that you used. If you use your flash at full power for all your shots, of course the number of shots will not be as much as if you are using it at lesser power. So, for all those people asking about the number of shots for a particular brand of battery: it all depends on the situation. Why not just test them out?

Yeah, given 2 scenario for example this guy uses flash at f/5.6 ISO200 1/100s where else another guy shoots at the same venue but using f/2.8, ISO800 and 1/60s perhaps. Different power will be used from the flash.

Hi guys,
Need to ask some questions about flash gun again
1st - Had my 1st photo session with flash 580ex ii just now. Noticed after some time the flash took longer time to recharge before the flash is ready to use again. The red pilot light turns red after a long time. Is this normal? 2nd - My flash was out of batt when others still shooting with flash. (note: used continuos 2 shoots and +1. Also the batt was fully charged 1 week ago and left unused until today). Could this be the reasons why my flash is out when they are still shooting?
Appreciate your input as I'm Newbie. Thanks.

^ 1) as batteries get weaker the flash recharge takes longer. 2) probably not. rechargeables don't lose that much charge over just one week. possibly your flash is firing harder than others. quick simplified example, if you are using f/5.6 lens and someone else is using f/2.8, then every time your flash fires it has to fire 4 times harder (or is it 3 times? haha) cos of the 2-stop difference.

^ Actually some NiMH batteries don't slow down a lot when finishing, example is Eneloop. Only like the last 10 shots it slows down. No warning one :S. Can suddenly die off during shooting lol. Kena once :S.

Ok. Now I understand why the recharging time getting longer after a while. Also, a very valid point there. I was using f4.0 or above just now. My only zoom lens and thats the widest it can go. Maybe that's the reason why it didn't last long compared to others. Thanks a lot!

If not mistaken, the 580EXII slows down the recharge rate as it start to build up heat.
