QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Jun 1 2010, 07:42 PM) Welcome to the club. wow... i am impressed! Im not using the M17x but I'm running the ATI 5870 in my M15x so we can compare notes. Here's a short comparison between the GTX 260M and the ATI 5870. Will have to reinstall NVidia Physx as certain games like METRO 2033 and programs like 3DMarksVantage will prompt for Physxloader.dll to be present before it will work. I had mine taken out due to preparations to install my 5870. From initial testings, the 5870 has significant improvements over the 260M in games like Battelfield Bad Company 2. Will update more benchmarks and 3dmarks after I've gotten all the drivers sorted. Also, my aliensense has now ceased to detect my face nor even start during startup which is an issue I have to resolve. But temps for the 5870 is in its 70s so I'm keeping my fingers crossed my Artic Cooling paste is doing its job..... RESIDENT EVIL 5( 1920X1080, 4XAA, All settings Max, VSync Off) GTX 260M 1GB DDR3 [attachmentid=1604930] ATI 5870 1GB DDR5 [attachmentid=1604932] it seems everything goes quite well. regarding Aliensense, have you check your Alienware Command Center? its not a direct complication from changing GPU, i believe. QUOTE(Lil Kiasu @ Jun 1 2010, 07:51 PM) @julchin, try asking Intel the make the 980xm and slap it to your lappie~ I wanna see the benchmark result~ |

QUOTE(toughnut @ Jun 2 2010, 01:28 PM) RM5000 for this spec worth it? Can upgrade the card to HD5870 ourself? 8GB RAM and BD-ROM is kinda overkill for me.CPU - IntelĀ® Core i7-720QM Processor (1.60GHz, 6MB Cache) OS - Win 7 Pro 64bit HDD1 - 320GB 7200RPM HDD HDD2 - 320GB 7200RPM HDD RAM - 8GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 4GB) ODD - Slot Load Fixed Blu-ray BD-ROM / DVD + /-RW Combo Drive GC - 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4870 Lunar Silver Base 17.0" WUXGA 1920 x 1200 - Beyond HD (1200p) - RGB LED Alienhead 3D / AlienFX light RED 9-cell Primary Battery No Case and no, upgrading HD5870 by yourself is not a smart thing to do when you do have option to upgrade under Dell's warranty. |

QUOTE(hairuLeZ @ Jun 3 2010, 11:52 AM) never use any cooler before, but once my temp goes sky high till reaching 90+.but once i clean up the GPUs heatsink, i never reach 60 on both of my GPUs. i lol on whoever don't use Alienware but says Alienware bad at cooling. so i don't think cooler is necessarily for M17x. QUOTE(hairuLeZ @ Jun 3 2010, 04:19 PM) thanks bro. so the cooling system is really that good its freaking good and honestly i'd surprise with its cooling system.my system shipped yesterday. Cant wait to arrived here there is nothing surprising with single GPU can achieve as low as that temp, but when we talking about dual, its make a huge different and deep meaning. |

@ lksing78 : first impression is important mate. maybe if you clean up the dust, polish it a bit then it will looks like you care more about your laptop and attract the attention that this defect is from their fault, not yours.
anyhow, 'wear & tear' is not covered my most of the warranty in the world. the best you can do (and i recommend it) to get a few pictures from different angles and stress to them that this is not your fault and Dell's warranty should cover this. |

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Jun 10 2010, 01:27 AM) Wait till we get the 2GB GTX 480M on our Flagship models. I think its safe to say that a single card carrying 2GB running on 100W is better than 2 ATI's running on CF requiring 2X65W right? yes, logically the output you get in real gaming will be definitely better for single GPU from dual GPU, since optimization for dual GPU is not reaching a level of GTX280M x 2, for example.for still who don't understand the concept (example only): FPS for single GTX280M @ all high for Shift : 50FPS. FPS for Dual GTX280M @ same setting for same game =/= 100FPS. just barely 60+. don't believe benchmark result too much. its not same in the real gaming experience. |

QUOTE(louislee1991 @ Jun 10 2010, 03:29 PM) Yeah, but it will be only 1 HDD running but a high performance Raptor instead of 2 HDD. Wht do u think? agree with Putochip.256GB SSD + 500GB 7200RPM HDD is sufficient. lesser problem if compared to x2 10kRPM HDD. QUOTE(kuekwee @ Jun 10 2010, 04:04 PM) for desktop i think they have fans for the HDD..m17x i dunno have or not...u better call dell to check... nah, nada. |

QUOTE(natiayS @ Jun 11 2010, 02:40 AM) its ATi HD 5870.around 1.5k from eBay/Amazon if imma not mistaken. but note that quite a hassle to upgrade a GPU especially if this is your first time. you can PM Julchin_09 for more details. i think he'll happy to help you with that matter @Julchin_09 : had you documented every step of your upgrading process? if yes, i wanna put that in the front pages @ Achieves Section later |
