Whats the best oil for first gen Toyota Vios? Im looking torco at the moment. Benefits that I ideally want, quiet engine, smoother gear change..

torco won't give you quiet engine.
try liquimoly MoS2 10w40.

Any recommendation for an old car,
135K, using 5w30 but my mechanic feedback too thin for v6 engine. Looking at fully synthetic only

This. But felt lethargic when approaching 6k ~ 7k km.
Torco SR1 just made you more tempting to rev 6k+ rpm.

then don't look into torco, go for something like liqui moly semi syn or motul h tech 100 plus for full synthetic

if your lethargic comment is referring to lm mos2, well it is semi synthetic after all. for me about 6k km start to degrade already while torco sr1 can easily go above 14-16k km without much degradation at all.

what i've used and would personally recommend:

torco sr1: very rev happy, good high rpm sound

motul h tech 100 plus: quite cheap for api sn gf-5 certified eo, smells nice (lol), overall very smooth/quiet but nothing special on the performance end

amsoil signature series: insane specs from amsoil (very high TBN, HTHS, VI etc), boasts 25k miles service interval while still 15k miles for severe usage (yes, miles) and i am using it on my inspira atm which i thrash around almost every time i drive it.
nothing significant/notable on the performance, however i don't have anything else to compare against so really hard to comment on this.
i do notice significantly louder tappet noise, then again upon googling/youtube, it seems that it's an inherit trait for the 4B1x engines unless you use overly thick viscosity EO (mitsubishi original service manual specifies 0w20 wink.gif )

both motul and torco have been tested for over 14k-16k km long OCI (half way throughout the interval i will replace the oil filter once and top up if needed from what's loss from the oil filter)

amsoil won't be going long oci despite it boasting the best numbers/specs since i am following proton warranty/service schedules sweat.gif

ok, thank you.

i have tried amsoil for my savvy for a couple of years, thin and lasting, nothing notable on performance like you mentioned.

i think i will go for torco sr1, its only rm60 for a litre in mudah. drool.gif
quite costly..

any good addictive or stuff for an old engine maintenance?

additive.

for engine right, if you're already using expensive full synthetics, it could be detrimental for additives depending on the application.
most additives/carrier oils (eg: ceratec and ws 2 may or may not be using lesser base oil to carry the main contents (eg: ceramic particles, tungsten disulfide etc) and said oil can form sludge within the engine.

there are also claims on how the contents/chemicals/properties of the additives may react with other additive/eo
or even claims on how too "slippery" of an engine may cause adverse effects.

hence to make oil manufacturer's life easier, they just blanket say can't mix with other oil/additive.

then again this is coming from a guy who did this http://twitpic.com/drv0iv
the additives cost more than the engine oil itself rofl tongue.gif

and considering the money i actually willingly spent, i might as well give motul's 300v a try which is actually cheaper lol.

personally i'd suggest trying out with good reputable brand full synthetics first smile.gif

Motul 8100 should be good one too.

And yes the LM MOS2 'last' about 6k~7k km. But smooth & relatively cheap.

I am using PetroCanada Supreme 10w40 in my Corolla (engine EE80), rev smoothly, still quiet after clock 5000km. I intend to make it 12500km OCI.

wonder Pennzoil Malaysia under UMW has the same formulation for its Pennzoil products as the ones manufactured by SOPUS?

Pennzoil Platinum is highly regarded as one of the best engine oils around for its cleaning property. Highly recommended by BITOG..
