wah... the camera konekion kit selling here is exhorbitant....
any one got extra sets to spare?
*
the kit is selling in australia for AUD39/piece. current prevailing exchange rate is approximately 2.85

and as usual, i'm alright if anyone is requesting for it, and i'll post it over to malaysia.

however i cannot be held liable if the items get lost in transit et cetera, as the way i see this, is a community service afterall.

perhaps you guys wanna bulk it up to save on postage costs?

Hmm It depends.. took 4hrs to re-encode a 720p vid to iPad resolutions(to save space).. took bout 4hrs for that 2hr 40 mins video. Where as it took me about 9mins or so to do a 22 min video where the res size was closer to my chosen output (iPad 16x9)

When I converted 720p vids to play it is allright, when I tried with 1080p, the video was stuttering on the iPad, must have messed up a setting or two somewhere.

not sure what you mean by the first part, but yes if you have a better cpu, the encoding will happen much faster.

Rule of encoding usually means that if you want to save space, your video bitrate suffers, therefore taking up less space. If you want the best quality at the best possible bitrate, doing double pass will take more time, and slows down the encoding workflow.

There are no shortcuts I'm afraid. I've encoded an HD version of Monsters VS Aliens for the iPad at 720p for the Apple TV which is usable for the iPad, and that takes nearly a day.

FYI, I'm using Quicktime Pro. Custom Preset. The problem with using Handbrake or other 3rd party application is you're doing guesswork on what bitrates you wanna use for the movies. With QTP, you can use the "Export for AppleTV" and it handles it beautifully. Otherwise, I encode it into Quicktime HD, I don't like encoding to MP4 as the codec/encoder combo will determine the quality of the results, as well as the movie format you're encoding from. By using Quicktime HD, you're restricted to using Apple's own coder/encoder parameters, and that preserves the quality of the encoding. Only if you want the best. If you're okay with anything, then the "whatever format ==> MP4" workflow should be fine.

I found that the iPad is a perfectly good laptop/netbook replacement, seeing as how I'm using it for typing documents, sketching and surfing.

Of course, i do miss multitasking terribly, but the ease of use and the light weight beats all the cons.

I still find that at the moment I still need to lug my notebook around, if only because I am still awaiting a competent productivity suite for the iPad. When I did a presentation on the iPad, whatever changes I made cannot export back to PPT lol so still have to make those changes in MS PPT. Unless the other party uses a Mac and then I export it out to Keynote format.

Whe docs to go out iPad edisi is out, I hope my notebook sits in my office most of the time tongue.gif

Still thinking on that VPN part. I've been introduced to StrongVPN, but I'm not sure I want one now, since the only reason I'd be interested to stream shows on the ABC player is Lost, and Lost have just concluded. Now put on hold.

A colleague of mine (the original poisoner who poisoned me with his iPad tongue.gif) have subscribed to StrongVPN and he did comment that it is worthwhile for him, and he had been streaming from Tokyo and Adelaide during his nightstops.

Added on May 31, 2010, 12:56 pmLOL Only NOW the stocks for the 3G models have surfaced in LA, specifically the very same Apple Resellers I have bought the WiFi models for the Tumpang folks here. I can't even remember how long ago that was! tongue.gif

I finally tested a real iPad over at Sg Wang last weekend. It feels fast and am really tempted to get it. But the head says wait for the official launch in Malaysia - which apple store was not able to confirm when! Sigh...

I've been using VyprVPN for a few months and have been using lots of streaming stuff (ABC, Netflix, Hulu) on both my Mac and iPad. It works great during the evening hours, I get maybe 1-2 pauses of less than 10 seconds each on a 43 minute show.

I tried BolehVPN before and that worked pretty well too but that was pre-iPad days so I haven't tried it on the iPad.

None of them are cheap however.
