Mancini makes Inter move
QUOTE
Jose Mourinho has made his first signing as Inter Milan boss with the arrival of Amantino Mancini.

Inter have been chasing the signature of Mancini since the arrival of Mourinho earlier this summer.

Mancini has inked a four-year deal with Inter after a fee in the region of €12.5million (£10million) was agreed with Roma.

The Brazilian is set to be unveiled as their first summer signing on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, young midfielder Francesco Bolzoni has signed a new deal with the Nerazzurri

The 19-year-old has extended his contract until 2012 with the Italian champions after progressing through the youth system at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Mancini hails 'scary' Inter
Tuesday 15 July, 2008
Amantino Mancini thinks Inter are “scarily strong” and quickly moved to smooth the controversy with his old club Roma.

“I just met Jose Mourinho, he seems a relaxed and likeable person. We are both here to achieve something important, aiming for Serie A and the Champions League,” said the Brazilian in his presentation Press conference after penning a four-year contract.

“I can say that even without other new signings, this team is already scarily strong. They won two Scudetti on the field in as many years, so they have quality.”

This statement sits somewhat awkwardly with what was said by Mancini's former Roma teammates, who had blamed refereeing 'help' for the last title.

Inter, Nike present new kits
Friday, 18 July 2008 14:04:28

APPIANO GENTILE - Captain Javier Zanetti, Marco Materazzi, Adriano, Julio Cesar, Maicon and Amantino Mancini were the Nerazzurri models for today's presentation of the new Nike kits for the 2008/09 season.

Inter's commercial director Katia Bassi welcomed members of the press to the unveiling ceremony at the training ground, while Nike Italy sports & marketing director Cristiano Carugati illustrated the features of the brand new kits.

To celebrate Inter and Nike's ten-year partnership, there was an exhibition of black and blue shirts from the past decade.

Nike presented a personalised shirt to José Mourinho, who commented: "The kit is beautiful, but it will only be beautiful if it's a winner. It's up to us now. We have made a strong start to our work and we will continue to do so in Brunico in the coming days.

"We play our first two friendlies there but I don't like the term 'friendlies' very much. These are two matches we want to win to build a winning season."

Moratti: "Lampard? We need to be patient"
Friday, 18 July 2008 13:33:57

ROME - (Ansa) Inter president Massimo Moratti made the following comments on his arrival at the Italian FA in Rome ahead of a federal meeting: "For the acquisition of Lampard we need to have patience. Muntari celebrates Inter move
Monday 28 July, 2008
Sulley Muntari has been presented as an Inter player and has explained how the Nerazzurri transfer represents “a dream move.”

The Ghanaian international’s signature has been criticised by various sources, who feel that he is a second choice after the failure to land Frank Lampard.

However, Muntari has commanded a fee of around £12.7m and is ready to prove his doubters wrong.

“I would like to thank Inter for the faith they have shown in signing me and allowing me to return to Italy,” the former Udinese man said in his first Press conference.

“I am very happy to be able to work with this club and Jose Mourinho. I played against him once and I saw how they played. We lost 1-0 and Chelsea were very good, so it is a pleasure to have him as Coach.

“In the Premier League they play a different kind of football to the style in Italy, but during the last year I have matured as a player and as a man.

“When I was in Udine I was very young and a little inexperienced – that was why I picked up a few too many cards.

“Now I manage situations on the pitch better. The boss will have no problems with me.”

Muntari had stressed his happiness at Portsmouth, but he couldn’t refuse a switch to San Siro.

“I chose Inter because it is my dream to play for one of the biggest teams,” he said.

“When Inter came in for me I didn’t have to think twice. I wanted to wear this shirt and play for this great team.”

As for his role at Inter, Muntari is ready to let Mourinho make the decisions.

“I am a midfielder and I will be used as the Coach wishes,” the 23-year-old stressed.

“I am ready to do anything I can to help the team. Mourinho has seen me play and he will know what to do with me.

“There are lots of very good midfielders at Inter and I don’t expect to play every game.

“Am I similar to Michael Essien? We are friends, almost brothers. He is a strong player and he has worked a lot with Mourinho.

“We have different qualities though – he’s good on the right and I have a better left foot. But I am excited to see how the new boss will work with me.”

Matrix thigh strain confirmed
Wednesday 30 July, 2008
Marco Materazzi has been diagnosed with a left thigh strain and will be sidelined for around three weeks.

The Inter defender pulled up during the opening minutes of last night’s Trofeo TIM 1-0 defeat to Juventus.

It immediately caused concern and this evening the tests have confirmed a thigh strain, but it is not a deep tear to the muscle.

Although the official club website did not give any indication on how long Materazzi would be out for, this type of injury usually requires a three-week lay-off.

It is a blow for the Nerazzurri, who are short on central defenders due to long-term problems for Cristian Chivu, Walter Samuel and Ivan Cordoba.

“I am sincerely worried about the defensive situation,” said Coach Jose Mourinho before the test results were in.

“We will just have to wait on news from the medical team regarding Materazzi – it’s a muscular problem but that’s all we know for now.

“It could be difficult having to pick Andrea Mei or Esteban Cambiasso alongside Nicolas Burdisso.

“However, the important games will come in a month’s time and we will have to be ready for that.”

President Massimo Moratti also hinted that action could be taken on the transfer market, a decision that will be made over the next few days.

Serie A Week 1 - 30/8/08 (19.30 UK)
Sampdoria 1 - 1 Inter
Ibrahimovic 34 (I), Delvecchio 68 (S)
Stadio Ferraris

Gennaro Delvecchio's goal gave Jose Mourinho's Inter a rude awakening as the title holders were held 1-1 at Marassi.

Jose Mourinho already won his official debut with a shoot-out Italian Super Cup victory over Roma, but now he faced Antonio Cassano's Samp at Marassi in the first Serie A game of his career. Both sides were missing important players, as the Nerazzurri had to reshuffle their defence with Nicolas Burdisso joining Cristian Chivu, Nelson Rivas and Walter Samuel on the sidelines, but Marco Materazzi returned after a month out. Claudio Bellucci, Emiliano Bonazzoli and goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi missed out for Sampdoria.

Cassano's first shot sailed over the bar from outside the box and a Daniele Gastaldello header was not far off target. Julio Cesar smothered a Paolo Sammarco turn and Daniele Franceschini flashed a shot across the face of goal.

Amantino Mancini had the first real Inter chance after 23 minutes, but under-hit his lob. Salvatore Accardi did well to close down a Zlatan Ibrahimovic counter.

It was Ibra who gave the Nerazzurri the lead with a well-worked move. He combined with Mancini, running on to a flicked pass over the defence to chest down and place a scuffed but precise angled right-foot drive in off the inside of the far post. There were some Sampdoria protests for a possible handling offence by the Swede.

Esteban Cambiasso is growing in his makeshift central defensive role and cleared a dangerous Marius Stankevicius header. Angelo Palombo curled a free kick wide of the near post on the stroke of half-time.

Straight after the restart a wonderful team move from Sampdoria made of six first-time flicks between three players was finally closed down by Materazzi with Cassano clear on goal.

Antonio Mirante held a Sulley Ali Muntari snapshot and Dejan Stankovic effort, but Ibrahimovic wasted a good chance by ballooning over.

Sampdoria were furious on the hour mark, as they felt Javier Zanetti used his arm to block a header from a corner kick, but the referee waved away the penalty appeals. As the move continued, Padalino went for glory when Cassano was unmarked.

Zanetti cleared a dangerous Cassano cross and substitute Mario Balotelli's counter was charged down, as it became end-to-end stuff at the Stadio Ferraris.

A goal was in the air and it came for Sampdoria. Padalino's cross for Franceschini would've gone in had Douglas Maicon not kicked it off his head, but the Gennaro Delvecchio was quickest to react and netted from the outside of his boot from six yards.

OFFICIAL: INTER SIGN QUARESMA
Sunday 31 August, 2008
The Porto website announced late Sunday night that Ricardo Quaresma has been sold to Inter in a total £25m deal.

The official Porto website announced that Quaresma will move to Inter in exchange for £15m plus full ownership of Portuguese creative midfielder Pelè, who is worth £4.8m.

The transfer also includes bonus payments of a further £4.8m depending on how Quaresma performs in the coming campaign.

Adding all the figures up, Inter will effectively pay a total of almost £25m for the winger.

Quaresma is already on his way to Milan to undergo a medical and sign contracts ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday evening.

Only on Saturday evening President Massimo Moratti had told the media that his team “doesn’t need Quaresma” and talks had been abandoned.

Coach Jose Mourinho expressed his irritation and pointed out he had asked for the player the moment he arrived this summer.

It seems a crisis meeting on Sunday prompted the Nerazzurri to re-enter negotiations with Porto and later that night the deal was struck.

Inter deny Jose wage claims
Wednesday 1 October, 2008
Inter have issued an official statement denying Jose Mourinho's claims that he is earning £9m per season.

The Special One was on typically controversial form in a Press conference yesterday during which he had a light-hearted argument with a journalist.

During the interview, Mourinho claimed, “I don't get paid £7m, it's £9m and with sponsorship included it comes to £11m.”

However, the Nerazzurri have refuted such suggestions and have been quick to downplay the remarks.

“It was a simple exchange of jokes,” a statement reads.

“None of the figures that were mentioned at the Press conference yesterday relates to the contract with Mourinho - obviously it is a much smaller sum.”
