Inter announces Figo signs on for two years

Luis Figo has joined Inter Milan on a two-year contract from Real Madrid, the Italian club said Friday.

Financial details were not disclosed, but reports indicated there was no transfer fee and that Figo will receive 7 million Euros (US$8.62 million) over two seasons.

Inter Finally Seal Figo Signing

Inter Milan have finally completed the signing of Portuguese star Luis Figo from Real Madrid.
The winger ends his five-year spell in the Spanish capital after signing a reported two-year deal with Inter for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old struggled to hold down a first-team place last season and becomes the first 'Galactico' to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Figo established himself as a fans favourites following his controversial move from Barcelona in 2000, for a then World record £37m.

The former World Player of the Year, who was also being chased by Liverpool, follows former team-mates Santiago Solari and Walter Samuel in making the move to the San Siro this summer.

Inter start summer sales

After snapping up three Real Madrid stars and David Pizarro, Inter have announced they'll only be selling players from now on.

The club has been heavily linked with Genoa hitman Diego Milito, who is also a prime target for Juventus, Milan and Real Saragozza.

"Our shopping spree is over for this summer," insisted President Giacinto Facchetti. "We do hope to sell a few players, though."

There is a list of squad members who are now surplus to requirements following the arrival of Luis Figo, Walter Samuel, Santiago Solari, Pierre Wome and Pizarro.

The first to cut ties with the Nerazzurri will probably be Francesco Coco (pictured), who was allowed to leave the pre-season training camp last week in order to hold negotiations with other clubs.

Espanyol want Van loan

Espanyol are the latest club to be associated with a swoop for unwanted Inter midfielder Andy Van der Meyde.

The Spanish outfit are believed to have requested his loan and the Nerazzurri are assessing their options.

The Dutchman is on his way out of the San Siro as he doesn't feature in the plans of boss Roberto Mancini.

Van der Meyde has already been omitted from the Nerazzurri's Champions League squad, while his No 7 shirt has been handed to new boy Luis Figo.

When he was to come to inter, i was thinking he will strengthen the team...aisey... But if inter don;t want him, i would really see what he can do in the EPL by joing one of the english clubs. He will do well in the EPL i believe

COCO STOPS AT INTER
Inter Milan defender Francesco Coco's proposed loan move to Newcastle has broken down after the clubs failed to agree terms.

The 28-year-old Italian, who played in Saturday's friendly victory over Yeading, was expected to join the Magpies on a temporary basis with a view to a permanent transfer, but is returning to Italy after being withdrawn from the squad for last night's game against Bray Wanderers.

"We have been unable to agree to the final conditions of the player's loan move from Inter Milan to Newcastle United and he will be returning to Milan shortly," said a statement issued through the club's official website, www.nufc.co.uk.

i'm kinda surprised too coz van der Meyde is a very good right winger, but he failed to be a regular at Inter. and now with Solari and Figo, it'll probably limit his chances even more. the attack looks to be settled with Adriano and Martins, but it's still interesting to see how Mancini will deal with his midfield lineup.

the midfield looks like usual...... i dunno....but so far solari haven't settle down well yet. Maybe soon we will see him terrorise ppl's defence. But one fella i would like to cmment on is Julio Cesar. I'm impressed by his anticipation of the ball. Somehow to me, he feels slightly like cudicini... quick

Inter fan reporting!! i think inter is a great team but they've changed so many players in it now..that i can't remember them..hav to get to know them all over again. i've 'lost track' with their current status now..it's been a long time..so i went to their site inter.it and i saw a lot of changes there..a lot of old players are gone..like Crespo, cannavaro, vieri too..i cant believe it.. shocking.gif but, i think they still can survive with defenders like Javier Zanetti, who's da captain..i hope he still is da captain..he is, rite? and Materrazi.. Recoba, Adriano and Julio Cruz are great strikers too..Obafemi Martins is a rising star..so FORZA NERAZZURI!! thumbup.gif

yup, i do think they lack teamwork abit, but for their team who have different faces every season, it'll be hard... let's see how they'll do this year... one thing i notice is dat, usually for their pre-season tournaments, they seem to win year by year...but maybe cos other participating teams were merely experimenting with their lineup and formation so...

yea yea, ADriano go go go!!! tongue.gif

The Inter winger is set to join the Turkish giants.
