Hello. I feel very inclined to respond to this thread so I've just registered in Lowyat. I've just returned to Malaysia under the REP so have been looking around for the best deals lately. Here is what I've learnt
1 - The tax free from excise duty and sales tax is granted to MM2H, REP and ADUN
2) Choices are limited and mostly the waiting list will be well over 3 months
3) When you book a CKD car with a dealer, first thing they need to do is allocate you with a chasis and engine that has not been paid for tax and duty. This is the problem since mostly all chasis and engines are paid for when they arrive. You see, when you make a booking, the dealer will actually have to book a chasis and engine under your name, meaning they will have to wait for new stock to arrive from overseas. Unfortunately, the carmakers will only order when the current stock is nearly finished. This is why the wait is at least 3 months, and it can span up to more than 6 months.
4) So finally when the chasis and engine is booked under your name, then only they can submit your application to MOF for tax relief entitlement. This can take about 2 weeks to a month (unless you know someone who is able to help you).
5) The list
a - Honda
Honda City, Civic and now Jazz will take you well over 3 months since they do not have new incoming stock. As for CRV, the turnaround time might be quicker since its old model
b - Volvo
I've been to Volvo and they do keep stock of non-paid tax chasis and engine so you can get your car between 1 to 3 months. The V60 (150k) and S60 (140k) will blow you away with their futuristic features, 1.6 turbo charged engine and 5 year warranty on parts and labour and roadside assistance!
c - Mazda
Only Mazda 3 at the moment. Price between 85k and 105k. The good nes is they do keep stock of non duty paid stock so you can gt your car in a month!
d - Hyundai
Hyundai Elantra have to wait 3 months, but Santa Fe and i10 they have ready stock. unfortunately Tucson is not CKD
e - Kia
Kia Sportage 130K wait 3 months. Kia Forte they may have non-duty paid stock
f) Merc and BMW
Never checked BM, but for Merc they do have allocation for tax free vehicles in their stock
g - Peugeot
Forget Nasim, since they do not entertain Tax Free customers.
h - Others
Watch out for Subaru XV and Mazda CX-5 coming early next year and 2nd quarter. I didn't bother with Nissan because they don't love Malaysia customers. Look at the European models like Qashqai and Juke and you know what I mean. Perodua will only give you up to 5k discount. Proton NO discount. Toyota have bland choices and the Camry CKD tax free price is only 30k discount or so..
