That's a pretty good price actually. Which shop you went to?
The other place I saw marked totw at 200+, no DC

And there's no harm to mix though I'd suggest you feed your girls orijen separately first to see if they like/accept it. Then when you mix you might want to mix more totw compare to orijen as orijen have a high protein content.

I went to my vet to get dog food, kinrara vet. 'cuz they offer quite a good price especially now they are having anniversary celebration, a lot of dog foods on 20% discount ( normal time i went i got 10% off). I'm rotating Orijen 6fishes mixed with Taste of the Wild ( 8:2 ratio), raw feeding, and also homecook stew ( lamb/ mutton+ celery + carrots+ kelp+ green peas and a couple of herbs like rosemary).. I hope I'm doing good to my dog rather than harm =/

Ahh, sounds good. Just make sure you don't feed raw / kibble / cooked food at the same meal due to different digestive times ya~ Its good to see your dog is getting different types of meat for a balanced diet.

(I don't mind if you feed me the stew as well haha =D)

Haha, I feed kibbles during weekdays, then weekends if got time will cook stew or prepare raw meat for my girls. I tried having the same stew I cooked for my girls, no salt but taste nice too wub.gif wub.gif But I'm worried if I feed homecook for long term, the nutrient not balance

Haha ~ Everyone eat same thing, sunday stew special !

If you want to make sure balance, you can google and read up on BARF/ RAW / Homecook canine preparations.
Usually will involve extra nutrients like adding salmon oil / fish oil, stuff like flaxseeds etc to ensure that they get a healthy diet.

Don't worry so much, they are already getting pretty good stuff !
My boy is currently on a bland diet (boiled chicken and bread/rice) due to medication and I'm itching to see how I can ensure he stay healthy before gradually introducing Acana Pacifica kibble back to him smile.gif

Ghee¬ Thanks bro for the tips.
I'm quite concern with certain thing that my dogs eat.. Because one of my dog has seasonal allergy ( she is allergic to grass pollen and certain type of chemical/ added material used to processed pet food though not too sure which type). Usually I steam some pumpkin ( small amount), carrots ( my dogs love carrots!) for them as treats, on and off some hard boiled eggs or steam/ boiled chicken fillet with olive oil or flaxseed oil as topping..

I heard Acana is the sister brand for Orijen, am thinking of getting Acana but not sure how is the quality compared to Orijen and Taste of The Wild ( price wise too), sorry no offence, I'm trying to save some cost, but not willing to compromise on the quality of food and their living condition for my dogs..

Acana has lower protein % compared to Orijen and probably more suitable for dogs who can't take high protein diet but still would like a quality kibble. Also its hard to do a direct comparison as Acana and Orijen has slightly different ingredients.
If you compare 6fish and Pacifica (both primarily fish based kibble), the fish content is different =)

am using NUTRISOURCE Lamb Meal & Rice and one more NUTRISOURCE Pure Vita Salmon & Potato... my 2.5 years old mini pinscher just likes it.. protien is 26% Fat 14% Carb 50%

so far i think for PRICE , AFFORDABILITY, QUALITY ...nutrisource is one of the better choices in market...Nutrisource rated 4/5 stars in Dogfoodadvisor.com

my 2 month boston terrier is having EAGLE PACK PUPPY ....stool abit soft but she eat all the food like no tomorrow... lol
but Eagle Pack bit pricey.. Eagle pack rated the same 4/5 stars but price is bit high..

so i dont think i will feed them with acana, orijen, or canidae that cost too much higher for my budget

I fed my toy poodle with orijen 6 fish for 6 months. So far so good, but I think he is bored with the foods.

I'm thinking to change the foods.

1) from dog food analysis, orijen is best brand with quality ingredients. The protein content is very high, 40% they said not suitable for toy poodle which is small breed dog. Is this true? If possible, I'm thinking to stick with the brand but maybe change to chicken? Orijen puppy? Is it for small breed type?

2) change to lower protein content. I have found one, Artemis brand fresh mix for adult small breed which I think is quite good. Not as good as orijen, but the protein content is lower, maybe more suitable for toy poodle? This is with grain.. But good grain. Orijen is grain free which is better. Anyone know where to get Artemis? So far I checked big ones like petsmore and petslover no sell. I'm from selangor. Know where to get Artemis?

3) what u think acana vs Artemis for toy poodle? Acana is lower protein content about 33%. Ingredients lost to orijen maybe better than Artemis?

4) any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hope to get feedback ASAP cause I'm thinking to get new pet foods for my toy poodle tonight as he doesn't eat the current orijen 6 fish kibble anymore. Now feeding him with chicken meat.

Thanks.

Artemis no longer brought in to Malaysia AFAIK.
I was hoping to get Fresh Mix for my boy earlier but was told that supplier discontinued.

Maybe you want to change from Fish to Lamb or one of those Kangaroo / Duck / etc by Addiction?
I heard good reviews about GO! and NOW! by a friend as well. http://www.petcureanintl.com/
Pet Safari has Go! & Now! (Endurance is 6*)

Or Innova / TOTW ? Some of Innova/TOTW is 6* on DFA. Pet Safari has them as well..

Erm Rhika... there are recent recalls by Diamond Pet Food on a couple of brands manufactured under their plant, suspected salmonella contamination...
TOTW been also "voluntarily" recalled for certain batch.. I check mine, affected too, my vet advice me to send the remaining bag back to him as precaution and he refunded me. He said he will check with local supplier on which batch are truly affected, and not selling his remaining stock until he is certain the stocks he has is not affected. sad.gif sad.gif

But my dogs love TOTW compared to Orijen cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif later they hunger strike I cry cry.gif

i start cooking my own dog food... using

1. Organic Barley ( rough blend )
2. Organic brown rice
3. Flaxseed ( blend raw till broken ) can buy at jusco
4. Ground Beef * can use ground lamb or chicken even turkey
5. Minced Carrot, Green Pea
6. Local Spinach with stems ( chop )

Boil 1-4 together about 10 mins, add item 5 and continue to cook for 5 minutes , lastly add item 6 and continue stirring for 2 minutes

Cool on a tray , i use an ice cream scoop to portion and wrap in a cling wrap. Freeze it .

To use, take out , Thaw....ready to eat.

5 star dog meal...my mini pinscher eat happily now. Used to worry for her food as she dont like dog food.

Very low cost, and a substitute for alternate meal . I will add some dog biscuit sometimes so she get full nutrient and also giving her multi vits (for dog ) once a week.

I stop giving her those chewy treats as i read the ingredient mostly are wheat flour, and preservatives. Yucks!

Added on May 7, 2012, 11:38 pmto get a shiny coat for dog, and healthy dog....i think home cook is d best...

can search for more recipes ....mixing pumpkin inside also a good option..to help stool working well..

Hi rhika,
Thanks for your reply and suggestion.

I went to pets more today. They recommend canine caviar holistic pet food.

They said is very good, when I ask them to compare with addiction, acana, they said canine caviar is better. They said is their best dog food. smile.gif

So I bought the fish one to try.

The best thing they said is it is direct transition from your current pet food, meaning you can feed it with the new food right away instead of gradually adding up the amount of new food.

Anyone has any comment on canine caviar holistic pet food?

Hmm... My golden was taken this brand for 2 week den get high fever. Vet shop recommend me to stop taking this product due to very high protein and cause too "hot"?? For the dog. The doctor said, he cant tell me too much, but "if" can, den stop taking this brand.

Mb the brand not suit my dog??? And this is the 1st time i use this brand and my dog was the 1st time get high fever and ultra low blood Pressure.

The vet was taking my dog blood for a blood test, the result came back was giving me a heartattack!
It been 2 week and the 2nd blood test, thanks god, everything was fine.

Hmm, i should scan the blood test report and attach here. sad.gif

I think this brand will in my blacklisted and i still left over half pack/6-7kg. I think i should throw it away.

Any kibble also will be more panas than normal food. Must make sure your GR drinking a lot of water.
Either that or your GR can't take high protein content or is allergic to some component in the kibble.
Maybe you want to switch to something with protein in the low 20%.

Glad to hear your GR is ok now ~

BTW please, if possible, don't throw the half pack away.
Please consider donating it to a shelter or rescue effort as that would really help them, even if its just for one day's meals for the furkids there.

why not try to apply protein rotation? Like you buy Orijen 6fish 1 bag, feed until almost finish dy u buy Orijen other series like the poultry+fish+lamb... Or maybe can alternate in between acana ( orijen's sister brand) too. at least u know the quality assured
