Yes, what Jchong said is correct. It is important that u learn to read the label first before telling ppl royal canin is the best kibbles. What I see in royal canin is just filler with very limited amount of meat.

What he means is that you should read the list of ingredients and from there can analyze if the dog food got quality or not.

Of course there are websites that do such review like: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ You can check it to see how is Royal Canin rated.

Other sites:

Hehehe.... adriankhoo153 is very bold, but he has good intentions though smile.gif btw I heard there's a pet store in puchong, behind tescoif not mistaken, pet supplies are reasonable I was told. Anyone has any info about this pet store?

rhika....

u know what? seapark pet supplies sell Orijen 2.5kg for RM 62 and RM 139 for 7kg, but petlovers in bangsar gives me for RM 60 for 2.5kg. As it is I live in KL and i have drive up to PJ, might as well get it from here. I think petlovers is still one of the best pet store I have been to, even the one in ikano, pet safari. Those are some of the greatest pet store... there's one in Taman Megah, Pet Family. I have a fren who workes there named Mary, visit her & she'll give u a good deal... She is a sarawakian too wink.gif

True, though I'm concerned about the high protein in Orijen.. don't want my boy to be super active, then I pengsan oredi.

I am interested to know if anyone tried the Brit Care Salmon and Potato as well.
I had been choosing between Brit Care Salmon & Potato and Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish Formula before I made my decision.
Personally, for Brit Care Salmon & Potato, the first 4 ingredients Salmon, Potato Meal, Ground Rice, dehydrated Salmon Protein had built a very good combination of protein and omega meal for skin and coat. But when comes to the 5th ingredient which is the Poultry Fat (preserved with tocopherols) , I personally thinks that it doesn't make sense when a poultry fat (avian fat it could be chicken fat/duck fat...etc) added into the food.

My dog is allergy to chicken meal, until i found out that Natural Balance L.I.D Sweet Potato and Fish comes into play.
Natural BalanceĀ® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient DietsĀ® Sweet Potato & Fish Dry Dog Food is made with:
Fresh Salmon, Sweet Potatoes, Canola Oil, Salmon Oil, Flaxseed...... etc
They also emphasize on the word L.I.D (Limited ingredient Diet), one premium protein and one highly digestible carbohydrate.

So far, my dog has no problem with NB sweet potato and fish..
*
Judging from the first listed meat ingredients in Brit Care and NB, both the salmon are not listed as dehydrated or meal form, therefore the main ingredient in these two are likely to be the 2nd listed ingredient which is Potato Meal and Sweet Potato (again not listed as meal). For the same price, better to get some other brand with a fish type meal listed as the first ingredient.

I'm buying my little girl with Olive and Salmon fish oil dog foods. She got skin problem currently and not advisible to take other foods. She  seems so skinny also. But she just cannot take other foods beside the Fish oil biscuits ( Kinda expensive to me  blink.gif ). Any dog lovers here know where to get cheaper price out there? Thank you smile.gif
*
What kibble do you feed her besides Olive oil and salmon oil ? If you keep feeding salmon oil, also do keep track of whether any of them got Vit E. Too much fish oil dimishes Vit E, so got to keep a good balance.

Then I think the second best wud be Acana, if not mistaken, lower in protein but higher in carbs, but bare in mind, when protein is lower, carbs will be higher and dogs dont need too much carbs :| Well, if u have a lazy dog then, orijen is not a good idea. Mine does walking all day long, as much walking as I do... hahaha...

Thank you for the info as I didn't notice the importance of having a meat based in a Meal form pet food.

I looked up into the website for Natural Balance Pet Foods for more detailed ingredients listing, this is what they stated for L.I.D Sweet Potato and Fish formula:
Sweet Potatoes, Salmon, Salmon Meal, Canola Oil, Potato Fiber, Natural Flavor, Sodium Chloride, Salmon Oil (a source of DHA), Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Methionine, Choline Chloride, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Taurine, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Folic Acid.

Is this what you were explaining a better food with a Meal form salmon?

She'll be ok dont worry. I dont think its advisable to mix to diff brands, coz u never know how much protein, carbs & fat u may be feeding ya buddy. U may switch her to Fish base food, use medicated shampoo, brush often, practice hygiene and whatever u can think of that will help ya buddy be safe from bacteria. Btw orijen is sold at RM 61 at PetLovers, i have no idea why some pet store sell it for so expensive, btw some stores sell bigger packaging for a cheaper price. Which part of sarawak do u live? are there many pet stores?

Oh god, Eukanuba is a big NO for any dog, even a non-active dog .... Hmm.... http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/brand/
Check this site out, depends on how u wana feed ya dog, less protein or higher, then degree of carbs will increase or decrease accordingly. but the best i have found so far, is Orijen, EVO and Acana. Acana will be best for ya buddy, as it has equal amount of carbs and protein smile.gif

AAFCO is a voluntary association that makes sure that pet food is safe to be consumed and make sure the food has been prepared according to the regulation being set by AAFCO. Here's a link http://www.aafco.org/ by the way, not all pet food are approved by AAFCO.
Some food that are approved by AAFCO is Acana, Orijen, EVO, Royal Canin, AVODerm but even so, each brand only selected kibbles are approved by AAFCO.

Fione, stick to Nutram for a month plus first unless you notice she scratch and poo is bad. Frequent change to diet also not good, especially in young puppy or senior dogs as their system won't be able to adapt easily.

Another option is try searching for a list of petshops / vets in Miri and call them up to see if they got other brands, types, size and price then only go make trip to buy =D

Adrian, what is the size of the treats and where to get / price ? I'm using Avoderm Baked treats for my boy now and he enjoys them, but they are huge (about 6.5 X 2.5 cm) and hard to divide =/ Smells super nice though..

The size is about 20-50cent coint. Some are round, some are triangle shapes. Got it from Petslover or Fur and Paws at Kota Kemuning. RM19 per packet.

Anyway, this is my Snoopy new toy, Kong Wobblers! rclxms.gif
Now i feed him dinner using this Kong Wobbles. Very nice to see he works hard to get his food and he seems interesting too. laugh.gif
