Oh God I just wasted a huge bag of Orijen 6 Fish for my poodle.

Apparently his poo is sticky and lumpy everyday with weird stench.

Now I have to start looking for another alternative. Any suggestions?

You may try Evo salmon and herring. Equally as good as orijen

i would say 2 weeks to observe how your poodle's response to the kibble are too short, my poodle's took few months to actually see the improvement of the stool while feeding orijen since the protein level is pretty high. Her stool now looks solid and nice, just the smell still isn't pleasant though, haha smile.gif

I came across an interesting write up on Chicken by product. What do you guys think? hmm.gif

Chicken by-product meal is flesh, skin, and internal organs, including intestines, bone, and cartilage, that have been cleaned, dried, cooked, and ground.
What’s the first thing a dog does when she takes down prey? Apparently she eats the by-products.
So, if you want your dog to have organ meat, which is a major part of all of the raw and home-cooked diets I have seen, you want the by-products.

Try feeding less. Orijen is quite a rich n concentrated food, feeding too much can result in diarrhoea or weird looking poo. Since you seem to have bought a big bag anyway, give it a try n see how it goes.

By-products (entrails, heads, carcasses) aren't actually bad, it's just that kibble companies that use by-products tend to use by-products that may have been sitting in a pile rotting away before use collecting god knows what kinds of fungus, bacteria and such.

QUOTE
However, about 50% of every food animal does not get used in human foods. Whatever remains of the carcass — heads, feet, bones, blood, intestines, lungs, spleens, livers, ligaments, fat trimmings, unborn babies, and other parts not generally consumed by humans — is used in pet food, animal feed, fertilizer, industrial lubricants, soap, rubber, and other products. These “other parts” are known as “by-products.” By-products are used in feed for poultry and livestock as well as in pet food.

http://www.bornfreeusa.org/facts.php?more=1&p=359

QUOTE
Condemned parts and animals rejected for human consumption are routinely rerouted for commercial pet foods. A similar fate applies to so-called 4-D animals. These are food animals picked up dead, or that are dying, diseased, or disabled, and do not meet human-food qualifications. They are processed straightaway for companion animal consumption. Little goes to waste. Says Plechner, Food processing refuse of all sorts winds up in your animals dinner bowls. Moldy grains. Rancid foods. Meat meal. The latter is ground-up slaughterhouse discards often containing disease-ridden tissue and high levels of hormones and pesticides, the very things that may have contributed to the death of the steer or hog. A decade later, his words still apply. When cattle, swine, chickens, lambs, or other animals meet their ends at a slaughterhouse, the choice cuts -- lean muscle tissue and organs prized by humans -- are trimmed away from the carcass for human consumption. Whatever remains of the carcass (bones, blood, pus, intestines, ligaments, subcutaneous fat, hooves, horns, beaks, and any other parts not normally consumed by humans) is, according to the pet food industry, perfectly fit as a protein source for cat and dog food.

QUOTE
Meat meal can contain the boiled down flesh of animals we would find unacceptable for consumption. This can include zoo animals, road kill, and 4-D (dead, diseased, disabled, dying) livestock. Most shockingly, this also can include dogs and cats. That's right, your pets could be cannibals.

How roadkill ends up in Fido's food bowl

The process that turns these animals and animal parts into pet food is also disgusting. After all, it takes a lot to turn roadkill into something owners feel good about pouring into their pets' bowls. Ann M. Martin describes the process in Food Pets Die For: "At the rendering plant a machine slowly grinds the entire mess in huge vats. Then this product is cooked at temperatures between 220 degrees Fahrenheit and 270 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes to one hour. The mixture is centrifuged (spun at a high speed) and the grease (or tallow) rises to the top and it is removed from the mixture. The grease becomes the source of animal fat in most pet foods.

These results came out with the simple google search of 'dog food by-products'

Found another good one

Just need some help here. What dog food would you recommend for a Labrador Retriever puppy? I was thinking of Blue Buffalo Wilderness but I highly doubt that I can find it here. Thanks.
