Is there a specific brand breeder always like to promote? I don't want to mention brand name but they always push me to get that brand when I purchase a pure bred from them.

Anyone doing homemade dog food here?

I used to feed ACANA and Nutriedge in the past, but lately, I have been preparing homemade dog food.
For sharing purpose, here is the recipe:

Daily Meal (Slow Baked in Oven)
I make this in a batch and freeze it (1 week supply)
Total time spent: 2 Hours on every Sunday
1. Meat - Chicken / Lamb / Beef. (I usually mince the meat with food processor)
2. Fish - Occasionally, Fresh Sardines, bones removed
3. Organs - Chicken Liver, chicken gizzards  Why Organ Meat is important for dogs
4. Hard Boiled Eggs  Eggs Benefits
5. Pumpkin including seeds Pumpkin for dogs
6. Green Beans / Long Beans  Can dog eat green beans?
7. Green Vege - Bak Choy / Green Mustard- blended in food processor.
8. Cooked white rice  Should my dog eat rice?
9. Egg Shells Powder for Calcium - DIY - Refer here How to make Egg Shells powder
10. Tumeric Powder - Refer here for the benefits Tumeric For Dogs
11. Olive Oil - Reasons to add Olive Oil for dogs

Additional Natural Food: Apple, Watermelon, Yogurt. I take the same too.
Occasional bone broth from chicken feet.
Supplements: 1 capsule of 1000mg Fish Oil per day. I take the same fish oil too. Fish Oil and Omega 3 for Dogs

My approach is to feed human grade natural food as far as I can.

The results?

Pros
As compared to ACANA / Nutriedge / Nutrience
- Lesser Poop quantity, frequency. Lesser smell from the poop.

Generally,
- Shinier coat
- Active & happy dog..
- No vet visit for 1/2 year

Additional few hours time spent during the weekend, including time to buy ingredients in the market.
Cost??
RM 20-25 Per week. Works out about RM 80-100 Per month.

nice analysis michael9413. There is a lot of grain in the food (including dreaded corn).

@ genjo - you can always donate the food to a shelter, they always need extra dog food no matter what brand. Alternatively, buy a better food and mix the 2 together if you don't want to 'waste' the food. That way your dog still gets some good food and won't get used to the flavor of junk food too much.

@angel9362 - have you tried slowly switching the food over, giving more salmon and less chicken every meal time. If she still doesn't like it you can stick with the chicken and use a Fish oil suppliment (or Omega oils or Primrose oil) which will i\give you the benefit of fish without the trouble of switching foods.
Also i agree with jtl, go! is a very good food which has been getting great reviews from everyone i know who has tried it.

@jen_jen - why did the vet suggest a hypoallergenic diet for your dog? has he shown signs of food allergies?
Kagaroo meat is as good as any really. Dog foods are starting to use it now as they are running out of 'novel' protein sorces for dogs with hypersensitivity. I generally prefer to stay away from interesting meats unless my dog has some kind of protein related allergy or some other issue that requires them to have a novel protein sorce so that i have a range of options when reqired.

Why not Orijen? Well a lot of good kibbles around. Jes to name a few below.

My two precious are on Earthborn lamb meal.  nice fur and shinning fur too for my beagle. Both of them love the food. I suspect the food is a bit sweet cos sometimes i saw some ant crawling inside their bowl when they finish. Anyway they are ok after taking this brand for about 5 months  especially my beagle, love it very much, now meal time is not a problem for me anymore.

I changed my beagle food to Earthborn and she loves it. It is quite expensive but happy to see her enjoy her food without any left over. I tried so many brands so far she only loves two brands i.e Annameat and this new Earthborn.    Haiz, she has expensive taste.
