i'm not offended, and most of us here aren't either.

maybe you haven't realized this since you're quite new here, but back in 2008-2009, many keepers had been convicted when they are caught with just 1 or 2 animals that were listed under the Wildlife Act. primary reason - they advertised those animals on the Internet.

and please note that back then the fine is not 100k.

just be careful ok.

size of turtle?

bigger snappers could potentially bite off wiring, so keepers mostly use canisters or install a partition.

if using guppy tank, it is easier to just change water.

Hi,

Jus wonder, if i bought a red-footed tortoise from petshop, and it issued me a receipt with the license n import/cites num, i can jus go to the wildlife department and get my license for the animal?

How much does it charges ?
*
yes you can. they'd only charge rm10.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
please note that the grace period back then was only for animals without proper documentation.

permit application for animals that come with receipt and cites paper could always be done.

Hi, what the best substrates for I-star and sulcata? im currently using pine shavings.some website say cannot some say can. =s
*
what you have to do now is to remove those pine shavings ASAP (aka tonight) and use old newspaper as substrate while you're searching for new substrate.

pine oils are toxic, and could get into the tortoises' systems through inhalation, consumption (pieces dissolved in drinking water), etc etc.

in short, please get them away from your tortoises.

I dunno why. I bought 4 red ear slider. Three of them died due to soft bone disease. Is it because the water is cold? I try to dried them under hot sun without water. They still died.

Luckily got 1 alive and now grow to 2 inch....

What did I do wrong?
*
could be because of so many things as you didn't describe the husbandry, diet etc., but the first thing that i could think of is malnutrition (they'd probably didn't get enough calcium/d3).

and leaving turtles under hot sun without water is a big no-no. the dark shell would be a very efficient heat conductor, thus cooking the organs inside.

if you have any photos of the surviving turtle, please upload them here and maybe we could assess what had happened.

QUOTE(SheNightOwl @ Jul 21 2010, 08:39 AM)

Oya about Okra or lady finger, it's ok to feed your tortoise with Okra but it has a high protein, it will cause your tortoise pyramiding fast.

*
that's totally not okay. although conical scute formation in G. elegans could be linked to genetics, pyramiding in captive bred specimens are often pathological, caused by too much protein in their diet and to some degree, lack of moisture.

shells of specimens with diet-induced pyramiding are thick but porous, making it weak and susceptible to cracking and all kinds of mishaps.

Attached Image

and plus, induced pyramiding could cause unnatural vertebral formation, which would be very very detrimental to the specimen's health as it could disrupt the organs.

Attached Image

as such, inducing pyramiding through high protein food (okra, beans) is an atrocity. those tortoises would most probably outlive us, handing them a lifetime of pain is plainly wrong.

What do you mean? Pls be more specific, u mean for which species is it approved? Stars, radiated, spider etc?
How do u get the permit if you have declared? Just go to HQ(you mean the Cheras one I presume) and pay for the permit or what?

**Camille any updates on this? thx
*
no idea on that, sorry. they should've contacted us if permits are issued. i'll try to ask around today.

This is the turtle that survived.... any tips?
*
judging by the condition of the sutures, yep the shell looks soft. I assume that the turtle haven't gotten enough UVB/D3?

try pellets with D3 (wardley's, exoterra) or hooking up with UVB bulbs. (either one, not both).

and of course a dry basking rock in its aquarium with overhead basking light (rm1.50 osram bulb would do).

lol 90k. back in 2008, it was around 3k-4k. i've posted some pics in TTT version 3.

anyway, those breeders who are still intentionally breeding this kind of monstrosities are f*cking irresponsible.

I saw those that intentionally breed turtle with 8 figure, but 2 headed? How to intentionally breed?
*
Find one turtle with that deformity (not that difficult since RES are bred by the millions) and breed it en masse, and you might get several 2-headed F1s and lots of hets, much like the works on color morphs. I'm not sure whether those genes are dominant, co-dominant, recessive or whatever, but one thing for sure is they are hereditary.

Another famous deformity that had been thoroughly exploited is the eye-less turtle. The original turtle had been intentionally bred by its owner many times over despite criticisms, producing more and more eye-less turtle that can be sold for big bucks.

And those 8-figures are not bred, they are molded. No genetics involved, just human greed.

Found this tortoise crossing on the road. Taken back home because it dangerous.
Anyone willing to take this tortoise as a pet?
I don't really know what this tortoise species is. Since I already had Red slider tortoise.

it's a Cuora amboinensis - Malayan Box Turtle. this species is protected under INTESA, so we don't have much word on possession as it could lead to a 100k fine. (may sound ridiculous, but it is the law)

if you could find some forest reserve nearby, just release it there.

In 2008, the Indonesian government tightened rules on the trade, ruling that all tortoise and turtle species listed by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) exported to Indonesia would require an import permit.
that regulation is purely horse crap, nothing more than media circus played by clowns. import permit my derrière.

back in 2008, Indonesia essentially blocked all of TRAFFIC's operations after the following report was published by TRAFFIC.

http://www.traffic.org/species-reports/tra...s_mammals37.pdf

as mentioned in the January 2010 edition of National Geographic, the reason given was 'TRAFFIC attacked my country'.
that butthurt reaction is so /k/ material.

you should be thanking benson. if he didn't highlight our plight towards the general population, stars might have trouble being legalized since the original term of that application stated that no-export quota animals can never be kept. anyway, congratulations smile.gif

haven't got any news of mine, but I'm from a different state and my application documents are thicker smile.gif

i haven't found any specific clauses on disposal or transfer of ownership, but section 35 of INTESA did state this

QUOTE
Any schedules species, conveyance, machinery, contrivance, equipment, book, record, document or other article forfeited or deemed to be forfeited under this Act shall be the property of the Management Authority
and oh, if i'm not mistaken, disposal means euthanasia (as stated in newspaper not long ago)

QUOTE
Ocadia sinensis are not very common here Juliette. But you do get to see them in the local petstores seasonally and sometimes throughout the year. They are CITES III listed animals, so you'll need papers to keep them. These animals are very very susceptible to MBD if not provided proper husbandry. Calcium supplements are essential (but no milk please).

talking about that, I just realized that Ocadia sinensis is not part of any CITES list as of date. they used to be non CITES in early 2000s, listed in CITES and now out of CITES as a result of commercial farming.

however, since INTESA was enacted written-up during their tenure in CITES III, all local legislative documents point them to be CITES listed and are therefore protected under INTESA.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and another thing of note, CITES had updated their database since and the current binomial names of genus might not match up to INTESA's Schedule III. example, database search for genus Kachuga would not get you any results since Pangshura is the official binomial name preferred by CITES now. please note that they are still the same protected animals though, so making some cross-checks for dubious species would be most beneficial. smile.gif
