How to deworm them?
the dosage n the medicine?

i have some de-worm powder but havent fed it to the tort, a bit worry
*
Oral is the only way thats most effective (I think) !!

Type of medicine depends - theres a few (different worms will need different types same as dosage )
Best to consult a vet - size of tortoise beside sp all need adjusted dosage !!

QUOTE(a_sim @ Sep 27 2011, 04:12 PM)
ermmm i also feed mine those powder(assume is the one i bought for u) for a week time ah.. just one small little pinch for my 5" leo on their meal once a day...
*
Are you over-doing it ? Even if vitamin or Calcium(REPTILES dont utilise such stuff as easily as us , mammals ) I also wont recommend you do it every day , more a type of drugs !!

Do you worm yourself every meal ie 3-5 times a day ? (I think most human do it once or twice a year )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Care to show which type of de-worming powder ? So as to determine which type of drug used - or maybe I can help determine dosage

I prefer liquid as dosage easier to calculate and with accuracy (With powder how do you weigh to micro-gram...........)

Cheers

here is the dr vellayan advice to my newly bought tortoise at that time because their poo full of oxyurid and ameba even can see with bare eye...smile.gif

"powder (mebendazole) is 2 pinch (within 2 small finger tips) ONCE a day for my 5" leos and 1 pinch for my 3" stars. But my star seems dun wan to eat all vege if i add in the powder de-wormer so dr provide me liquid de-wormer for my star but not sure the name and the dosage as below:-

the liquid is (0.2ml) TWICE a day  for my 3" stars...

Continue for a week time stop 5 days then continue for another week "

I really follow his advice and at least now i din see worms in their poo but under microscope not sure:).

cheers.
*
OK then since under Vet instruction - what more can I say !!

But in forum pls make yourself clear IF NOT some novice will just take that piece of advice ( just one small little pinch for my 5" leo on their meal once a day) as a sure must and blindly follow !!

Does cuttlefish (dried ones) like the Dahfa provide calcium for the turtle?..
*
People use Cuttlefish bone instead of cuttlefish itself !! Beside calcium I use them as jaw trimmer .

http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/sepia_bones.php

Exo-terra sell them as sepia bones !!

Better not bro, I heard kangkung will make Indian star got worm.
*
Let me try clear the air - all green that's grown , harvested in the open ( except for netted closed in system ) has the possibility of passing on worms to our pets !! Why one might ask , some bird might fly pass and poo(worm plus their eggs) on the leaves and so on till we feed our pets !!

So not just kangkung can pass on worms all green are possible !!

erm... but how about if i soak the kangkung or any green vegi in salt to kill that worm? will our saly kill that worm?

acty that kangkung i get it free from 1 shop selling vegi and fruit. the shop owner see i always go buy fruit n vegi for my tortoise (remark fruit is for me, vegi is for my tortoise). so one day he got extra kangkung then he give me for free  laugh.gif
*
If one not Hav so many pets instead of soaking can try inspect / clean leaf by leaf pior to feeding ? No veggie is bad if used sparingly !!

Hey all,

I'm brand new to the world of tortoises. Need some advice from your experience. I have 2 Sulcatas that I recently got and I bought the Exo Terra basking light and the UVB one for them. But I read online that this type of lighting can potentially cause blindness to the tortoises. Is this true? Anyone have experience with this type of lighting? Currently I keep the lighting clamped to the side of the aquarium I'm keeping them in.
*
Even the good old SUN ( best source of heat n UVB) can n will cause blindness if looked at directly for pro-long period !! so we not sun ourselves or our pets ?

Hey guys, I'm given a 3 years old Burmese Star Tortoise by a friend's mum.
They gave me is because they have no time to take care and had been abandon for sometime already.
May I know what is the size of an average BST which is already 3 years old?
This is because it was said that its size is JUST around human palm size!!
Is this because lack of food given since young and the growth have stunted?
Can they still grow bigger in size?
*
Pls show a picture of it to confirm its sp then I answer your Qs !!

As whose palm size ? include fingers .

Can give exact measurement in inch or cm ?

Cheers

The largest Burmese Star I saw on net !!

not that type. fish  aquarium, with proper filter n basking dock. i learn my lesson already. been watching lots of youtube video. i know its expensive, i would love to get that someday.

u from sabah too right, where can we find UVB bulb in sabah. i just use normal bulb for now.
*
Normal bulb only good for providing heat . Thats it !!!

UVB "provide or give" Vitamin D3 if your animals has no access to pure sunlight .

Try Harvest I got mine from them !! You want bulb or tube they come in two type (same brand Exo Terra )

If they ran out of stock just re-order AS THESE are not common stuff ( they wont stock large quantity ) and any surplus they know where to off-load to LOL

I think they place these and other Exo Terra stuff towards the end of their shop ( or use to be) Have not being there in 2 years .

Mating not always = eggs
Eggs not always = fertile eggs
Fertile eggs not always = hatchlings

But mating do mean one thing owner is doing somthing or everything right ( happy , healthy tortoise mate )

Trying to fix their enclosure tho. As my area is prone to flash floods. 1 time i was in time to save them in the middle of the night during a flash flood. since then i dont dare to leave them outside overnight. my housing drainage too small but house owner wont fix it as it is only a rented house. i was thinking of increasing the ground level of their enclosure by 2 bricks high. suggestions??
*
With dirt ? Whole area ? How about just a small area where there's shade to tuck in for the night .I just use a few cement slab n an inverted curvet as shade !!

cheers
