some of my tort  smile.gif
the third one started to have fused scutes half year ago, sigh, but other's shell jus grow normally, they share the same food n environment, wonder what caused it, i usu will add in calcium powder once or twice a week, they will get morning sun everyday

*
U referring to this guy ? Even the " line" becomes distorted ! They just do maybe due to stress or some shock( fallen or hit by something when young ) but wrong diet or enviroment when young or before bought by you will also cause this !!

Nice cherry head you have there .

Cheers
Sam
---------------------
Took another close look at the picture u posted .
Its not common for bigger size tort to develop these fused scutes ( the top middle 3 ? ) - your Radi more than 6 but less than 10 inch ? Or otherwise . Just guesstimating !

when i got it is aroundd 1.5years ago, it is ard 4 inches, the shell is perfect, but i noticed it seldom like to move after half year under my care, the appetite stil very good, they are provided with uva n uvb bulb (lastime they stay indoor, now i moved them  outside) , now it is ard 7-8 inches . It got a mate that was bought together, but its shell is perfect ( not shown in the pic)

I wonder how big radi start to breed in captivity  tongue.gif  my biggest radi ard 9-10 inches
*

My male radi started sniffing n piggyback his friend around 13inch n female lay eggs around 14 inch !!

Or maybe ur that radi not digesting his food or calcium properly ? Can't be 100% n there's no sure answer to this !! Just give more fibrous food to slow down it's growth a little so the fused scutes can " catch up "

Cheers

went to 1b pet shop today. saw indian star tortoise price tag. when i ask its already sold out. didnt even get to see the tortoise sad.gif

caramel res look pretty.
*
I think that 1B pet shop got more in( Indian star tort ) since last week go check it out !!

But a few I deem reject or 2nd grade ( extra scutes.... ) still quite active BUT without extra heat provided , saw dust as substrate WON'T be for long especially for small ones like them !!

i see them... they look sad in there.. do u know where can get malayan box turtle

How sad n that tank is bit small even four hatchlings( few months old at most ) , no hide , cucumber as staple no extra heat ( it's air-cond shop ) so they not as active as they should be !!

Boxie hatching time is from April/May to Sept/Oct !! But u can try Gaya st Sunday market or the tamus around , might have some luck finding small specimen there .

Cheers

Hey guys my female star has been digging in its enclosure. a very deep hole. has been mating with the male. Can anyone guide me on removing the eggs and incubation? I did research but im afraid i would make any crucial mistakes

*on a side note, my female weighs at 1158grams.
[attachmentid=2569043][attachmentid=2569054]
after the eggs came out i saw her intestine sticking out. what action must i do? it's been there for quite some time already

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtPa5RNxX7M
*

The nest is unusually large n deep ( unless the white at bottom is not the eggs ) for an Indian star !! Something is quite wrong here ? The " red thingy " is still there ? If so , pls let me know how many eggs being laid and does she seems or act as if there's more inside ?

pls ASAP !

ONLY 2. Now the intestine, red thing stuck out, she scratched it with her hind legs and its bleeding. vet opens at 7pm. waiting now.
*
If going to vet pls clean ( the mud .....) as much as u can to prevent infection ( only 2 eggs ? I suspect there's more inside and maybe a huge one ) pls mention to vet n ask them to do x-ray ( if u or they don't mind me busybody )

i dont know the appropriate growth rate for star, but u need to supply them calcium also for their growth..but still i have a case where star got stunted because of bad previous husbandry..sometimes only few part grow but some not..huhuhu. sweat.gif
*
How that guy doing , being awhile since you posted its picture here !!

Stunt growth is common in " mis-treated" , bad husbandary provided animals (some happened in transit some ........)

But less than 1 inch a year (especially in such young specimen) is a real cause for concern !!

[attachmentid=2583497]

U refering to this guy ? being more than 2 yrs hopefully all is well now !!

As long as it is still eating , pooing and growing ( no matter how slow ) like slackerz say give proper husbandry and suitable diet from now on and see how ( this tortoise has fused scutes to deal with - gussing here )

Wait n wait , no pictures posted !!

I think will still grow up ok just slower till maybe later say after it's 3 rd or 4 th birthday !!

SAM,here the pic of my stunted star..the slowest growth among all,but eat a lot,poo a lot and eat it back, lol.the one i circle with yellow one almost stunted..and the growth only on the side..so the shell became like dome..

Looks so cool !! There's definitely fused scute on the top few - this will be permanent as the side new growth are so many layers ahead of those in middle !! How controlled also cannot reverse now n maybe ( it will die of organ failure ) when it get to a point where it can't grow big anymore !!
Fused scute , excess doming must be arrested/reversed as young as possible !!

Below got one that doomed like yours

SAM,what u said is true..its already late to fix the problem..suddenly this fella dead..day before she passed away she really active and eating as usual..the next day i give them sliced carrot..i put in front of her..and i thought that time she was sleeping..after few hours i saw the carrots gone eaten by other IST,but she still there..and after that i realize she already dead.. cry.gif my wife keep asking me the cause of the death, but i cant say anything.. cry.gif
*
As the inside organs have no space to grow thus ...... 90/100% is due to organ failure !!

My condolence !!

Hii Slackers, thanks...hope in future you'll breed yours. I registered those babies already at perhilitan. With indian star I can manage to keep as much they breed for me. Its been amazing experience went trough all the procedure until they hatched and start romp around.
Nice to have tortoise that you know since birth.
*
Congrats on the eggs and hatchlings !! Have you got the permits for the parents already ? If not why register the babies ? They accept/recognize them as legal CB ?

Cheers

Hii Samperth, How is your yniphora breeding project ? Hope succesful too.

Haha that one !! doing OK I supposed !!

QUOTE
I only have Indian star to keep as a pet, THATs WHY I registered them. When you got nothing to hide why be fooled and afraid with perhilitan..?
OK as I keep more than just Indian Star (CITES II - easier to get anything ) And local (Malaysia level) keeping permit doesn't mean breeding permit ...etc And different branch / officers will tell you slightly varied things

QUOTE
You have bad experience with wildlife? Just wondering...

LOL maybe who knows

QUOTE
I have registered parents or all my stars 2 years ago,
Have all permit, actually all come together with slackers permit as well, as I suggested him to register his. And I always inform wildlife what I should do. Seem to be doing fine with everything. Of course they excepted, why make you think
Wildlife dont trust?
Just wondering you may know the answer with all experience you have been trough with procedure
Otherwise I wouldnt share and make it published
With my breeding star.

In fact got few pm some people want to share same experience want to breed star, Im quite happy to share with them. Cheers
*
Registered and you got your permit , whats the conditions if any - include can breed and register them (pogeny ) as CB or a booklet to record birth ....etc

Our laws are such a mess i.e. even the enforcers don't know the full story !!

Cheers

Added on January 10, 2012, 6:11 pmAs for the fooling part was referring to some/many oversea sites telling keeper that certain/many sp don't do well (let alone breed ) outside their native home range !!

Anyway nice knowing you got nothing to hide (BUT I remember a PM from you asking me to sell/supply you Indian Star ) Oh Maybe thats not you - did I just rubbed some salt onto your old wound ??

Cheers

Hi all, my cousin bro has a red eared slider for 6 yrs & he wants to release it to the wild. All these years the RES is kept in the aquarium & been fed pellets. Never eaten vege. He said want to release it to a pond near a temple at his house in Ipoh.
Will the turtle survive if released? I'm worried for the turtle.
*
They(RES ) are non native species and are aggressive breeder (many big clutches per year) One of the reason why they are not allowed to be imported/kept as pet in that newest wildlife law !!
Do consider trice or four times before release !!
---------------------------------

On a side note - they will do OK even if not being fed natural diet before !!
