Thanks bro, i m really paying attention to the shell growth, i not dare to feed it too much to prevent pyramiding,

but sometimes, it jus eats the newspaper when the foods is not enough  sweat.gif
*
Include some hay so they munch on that instead !!

Shell growth looks good !!

wanted to.... but they yet start sniffs around... sad.gif

How old ur radi start to sniff and hatch ? any luck for the hatching so far?

Your angko 7" ? i think i saw some of your successful hatching of angko right? dun tell me 7" is ready to breed? i have 1 about 4"....

unfortunately my female leopard passed away with 8" size... left the male at 9-10" in size i guess... quite sometime didnt measure....

let's talk more on these.. things getting excited when ppl start to open up and talk smile.gif

also any luck on the license stuff from perhilitan ?
*
My angko's first hatchlings pipped 2009 so they 3 now biggest about 7 " smallest about 4 " !! Their parents as max as their breed should be !!

Radi mine Male start sniff at about 12 " and Female drop egg about 13"

This hobby of ours not many willing to share !!

Cheers

Ask that guy who replied - who's gonna boil the egg for the tortoise ....

How about this who's gonna give the tortoise money to buy mazuri or pretty pets ..... Pellets ? What it gonna do to earn pay ?

In my view diet in rough = protein for growth , fiber/roughage for filling n ease of passing of motion , calcium for bone/shell building !!

How they are provided in captivity are owner's responsibility n creativity ( most green are good ) feed in moderation nothing is bad ( unless it's known poison to both human n reptiles )

My feeding list is too long n varied a bit ( some sp more fruits or animal protein than others ... )

Don't be afraid to try new method !! Never try never know . But some sp ( dry grassland ie leopard or sulcata ) especially new import should never be put outdoor Straightaway ( our high humid , prolong rain ..... ) will bring about RNS easily .

Need anything just ask ( no question too noob if enough research done )
below are some I heard over the years ( q I chose not to answer or comment )
- desert sp thus no need to drink water
- desert night v cold thus can stay in my aircond room
- lettuce are best food
........ Etc

Haha... hmmm mine is leopard n star... currently stay indoor for about a year + already. Even indoor sometimes they also attack by RNS. If cannot put straight outdoor then can i like put them outside of the house but with awning on top which they wont able to get wet plus heating lamp:)? That's my initial plan:).
*
Cement can be bad at times ( coldness from below can hinder with digestion )
Try jail them in cages ( roof , heat lamp .... Etc ) for 6 to 12 mths before introduce to outdoor 100% !!

Both my leo and star is put outside, with shade and open space and small rocks as the base. My star is around 5-6 inch, while my leo is around 3 inch. I suspect my leo is having RNS, is there any way to improve the husbandry?
*
3 inch and out already - my leo I only let them out after 6" n even then I bring in for the night ( cold , rainy one) only After 9" I don't bring in but have a heat source on 24/7 !! Just in case .
Above I use for my drier sp ie sulcata , leo , I star , radi ......

Cheers

Omg! My 6 months old Indian star ate lizard poop! I left him out at the garden and he manage to find a poop on the rock. Is this bad for him??
*
The only bad I can think of are
Bit extra protein and if that lizard poop has parasite worm's eggs !!

Thanks for the information. Need to do some changes now...
As for the heat source, are you suggesting lamp or heating pad?
*
I use lamp ( wattage will depend on height ) hung right above where I intended my tort to sleep !! 30-35oC seems warm n comfy for them .

Heat pad ( exposed wire worries me a bit ) I don't use and can't find them in big enough size for some of my animals !! Lol

Cheers

yaya.. don't think there is jumbo size heat pad on sale.
Will there be any diff(beside electricity bill) between the energy saving bulb and the traditional bulb? assuming both are the same wattage.
*
Bills should be much lower on the energy saving bulb BUT will it give off as much heat as the traditional bulb ?

Samperth... You may need heating  jumbo 5ftX5ft for ur big mama.... hahah

yeah... what about infrared bulb?
*
For my jumbo I use outdoor spotlight type 80-200watt hung at various height to create a larger basking spot ( or should I say sleeping spot )

All my outdoor enclosure ( fenced in dirt /grassed ground ) has a corner that's cemented , roofed ( keep rain out n to hang the light ) n this area is sloped so rain water will get drained out !!

Most if not all will choose to tuck-in there for the night !! Warm , cosy n dry .

Cheers

Instead one could always use ( piggery or chicken hatchery )
- Gas powered burner
- Electric powered heating plate to warm a large area !!

Below picture of what I suggested

But as hobbyist do we need that ? We just small scale heating a few animals at a time !!

We in Malaysia don't have a huge range to deal with at most 15 oC ( 20 - 35 oC ) And this don't bother me as much !! Humidity is the worst on dry sp ( fresh WC or younger specimen especially ) !!

Separation are good in increasing fertility of eggs produced !! maybe wife too small but if same age she should be larger !
