Am totally impressed by what Hoya Pro CPL filter is capable of doing. I will check out in DCIM 2010 to see if I can get any good offer

p/s: planning to get one for my 14-45mm kit lens

seriously the sone nex look so ugly..

the pros i can think of is:-

1. slighly better noise performance at iso800 and above
2. metal kit lens
3. metal body
4. cheap price

the cons are:-

1. cannot put larger flash..and use propriety port...so cannot mount their bigger dslr flash. no flash hotshoe..
2. cannot AF when mount with existing sony lens even with an adapter
3. is the only camera where the lens bigger than the body. i am talking about E mount lens. not proportional and i doubt the weight distribution is even with lens mounted on it.
4. no build in body IS.
5. panorama mode got lot of artifacts according to cnet review
6. Across most of the frame (especially the corners of course), softness and chromatic aberration are appalling (based on imaging resource sample image)
7. no control dial to switch setting fast.. like change shutter speed or aperture
8. ugly
9. i dont see any slot for electronic viewfinder..
10. no build in camera raw editing like ep1 ep2 and epl1

was looking forward to jump ship to sony mirrorless..really dissapointing...
fail big time..hoping canon n nikon can do a better job with their upcoming mirrorless camera..
*
Just to add

Pros:
- Good high ISO handling (on par with PEN)
- APS-C sensor
- High resolution screen

Cons:
- BIG zoom lens
- Not really useful tiltable screen

Cool down hellfire8888 / gogo2, at the end of the day all of us love photography, don't we smile.gif

I'm getting my Danbo today, can't wait to shoot it with my Pana GF1 + 20mm! If I do shoot it religiously then I may consider the Pana-Leica 45mm macro tongue.gif

Agree with both sniper and gogo2... D90 LCD got 920,000 pixels and yet the battery life lasts longer than GF1 (yes, with live view on), so it's definitely an area that M43 cameras need to improve

It's all about good power management! I believe future Oly/Pana M43 models will improve on this

I just got this yesterday

I abandoned my bundled bag 1 month after using it and got myself a crumpler 4MDH tongue.gif

Btw - this seems to be Panasonic's answer to Sony NEX? (or maybe not directly)

e-p2 pwned gf1 in every aspect?

QUOTE(bllizard19 @ May 14 2010, 03:51 PM)
gf1 pwned e-p2 maybe at AF speed. the rest e-p2 and may e-pl1 hands down.

p/s my opinion only smile.gif
*
I don't agree with the "win hands down" verdict...

First of all, the image quality wise they aren't that big different - people think e-p2 one is better because of it's Out-of-camera JPEG (GF-1 raw is good, and its white balance and colour can be tuned to make the JPEG look closer to E-P2)

And GF-1 wins in term of AF Speed, Screen resolution, built-in flash, menu, built quality (compare to E-PL1) and weight... The only attractive feature from Olympus that I'm really missing is its In-body image stabilizer and the viewfinder

QUOTE(sukun @ May 14 2010, 04:03 PM)
GF1 vs E-P2

alright. come to a conclusion. i will get GF1.
between GF1 bundled with 14-45 for 549 quid and E-P2 with 14-42 for 899 quid
the extra 350 quid for small improvement on quality, i aint digging it.
i will just settle with GF1 and with that extra cash i will get some extra acc.
*
Don't forget that E-P2 comes with a very good viewfinder too laugh.gif

Sorry la, I don't own high grade telephoto zoom... so the reach is pretty limited sleep.gif But yeah the model has a GF-1 on her hand, it's a shame that the emcee pronounced it as "GF-I"

That's quite a good price, but I guess I need to stop buying stuffs for some time doh.gif

I bought a Marumi CPL filter (52mm, for Pana 14-45mm lens) from DCIM 2010, for RM150

As far as I remember there were only 2-3 booths actually selling lens filter

It's in the area selling bags, sigma lenses, accessories etc, shouldn't be too hard to find

Jst pre-ordered the olympus leather brown bag. Can't find elsewhere cheaper than yamiya (RM159) retail bout RM250.

Shall I keep the Di466? Hmmm...since oledi burnt the $. Still no time test for portrait with external flash.

Still funding for the 20mm 1.7 fast lens to complete my goals. hehehe.

So many people (including myself, dang) who bought M43 camera without pana 20mm pancake end up funding to get one brows.gif

I for one, shoot RAW exclusively with my GF1 and post-process it with Adobe Lightroom. Why?

1. RAW output for GF1 is much better than its JPEG output
2. Better control on the mood and setting of the subject
3. Better control on the dynamic range
4. Better noise reduction, I could still shoot ISO1600 and improve it via PP

I agree why most people prefer to shoot JPEG, but it's a matter of habit I think... PP is just an extra step of the whole photography process to me tongue.gif

mersey96 - whether you like it or not, JPEG output is a weakness in GF1, although there's always workaround (adjust camera white balance or do PP)
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PanasonicGF1/page33.asp

As much as it's a matter of preference, I insist that shooting RAW and doing PP is fun and rewarding. I did try to convince myself that it's time wastnig and JPEG is probably good enough, but once I get my hand dirty in Adobe Lightroom there's no turning back blush.gif It's really worth every second I spent on it

well... i feel it's good enough to satisfy me.. u don have to refer to that website to show me this.. not wise.. their opinion is not entirely true.. MY OPINION is the most important.. my way.. at the end of the day.. who sets the benchmark when making purchase?

there is always some other camera perform below GF1 and above GF1.. i believe good photo is not only judge on sharpness and colour.. it's about the moments and meaning behind it..
*
I don't see anything wrong with referencing some webpage to support the fact.

I totally respect that you're happy with GF1 (I am happy with it too), but I have my freedom to voice out what I think. So please cool down smile.gif I am definitely not here to prove that who's right here...

The Noktor lens sample

proven to be a junk cctv lens with the images too soft for my liking.

More for fashion actually

For that I'd recommend Crumpler if you are to avoid the nerdy look of Lowepro tongue.gif

I'm a real entry level. Anyone can tell me the different between 14-42mm lens and 20mm lens? I'm searching through google, but not much understand.
Hope that any expert here can help me with this...
*
Are you talking about Olympus or Panny 14-42mm? biggrin.gif

Anyway, to make it simple for you to understand:

14-42mm f3.5/5.6
- More versatile, because of its zoom capability (can shoot wider too) - better if you shoot event or wildlife
- Larger and heavier
- "Slower", means even at maximum aperture (lower f-stop) your image will appear blur if there's subject movement
- More difficult to capture sharp image under low light situation

20mm f/1.7 a.k.a "pancake"
- Cannot zoom (it's a prime lens - means the focal length is fixed)
- Lighter and smaller
- Faster... handy if you shoot pets or kids at f/1.7 - image would be sharp even there's subject movement
- Image is sharper if you capture photo under low light situation (e.g. indoor)
- At maximum aperture (f/1.7), you can have more obvious background blurring effect (known as Bokeh), like this:
user posted image

For me (I own both 14-45mm kit lens and 20mm prime), I use the zoom lens occasionally for landscape or event (when zooming is required), but I use the pancake most of the time because it's lighter and take sharper image.
