Anfield boss shows interest in up and coming German international.

Liverpool are hoping to make a successful move for German international starlet Mesut Ozil this summer. Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the Werder Bremen attacker and hopes that he can convince the Bundesliga club to accept an offer in the region of £8m for the 21 year old.

The former Schalke man reportedly has just one year left on his contract and may well be interested in a move to the Premier League and would no doubt be excited by interest shown in him by the Anfield outfit.

Rafa Benitez is looking for more creativity in his midfield and is apparently most interested in Ozil’s ability to play in a number of different positions. The well built Bremen man can play across the midfield as well as effectively on both wings but perhaps most interestingly can be used in the hole behind the strikers.

A number of sides are reportedly interested in Ozil with Arsenal being one side who has repeatedly linked with a move for his services and has been in sparkling form this term weighing in with nine goals and 17 assists which have helped his side to a third placed finish and a coveted Champions League spot.

English Liverpool's accounts, which were released last week, indicate that the media income for the 2008-2009 season was GBP 74.596 million. It is remarkable that the seven-figure increase in income came in a season when the club has had its worst season in over a decade with a second place finish in the Premier League and only a quarter-finals showing in Champions League. Over GBP 4 million of this was self-generated revenues from varied operations but the bulk of it was from television income.

Investigations of current finances indicate that although Liverpool made two more television appearances during this season's campaign, the club's slide back from second to seventh in the Premier League table will impact total domestic TV revenue by around GBP 3 million and bring it to GBP 47.3 million from GBP 50.266 million.

The club's finances appear stronger in the European context because of the complicated UEFA system of disbursing income. In the previous season Liverpool got GBP 23.17 million and this season's is expected to be a third more than that. UEFA pays English clubs be factoring in domestic finishes the previous season and the number of matches played in proportion to English participation and Liverpool does well in this analysis. So the current estimate is that their share of TV-pool income will jump from last year's GBP 10.7 million to GBP 17.62 million. The GBP 860,000 of Europa League prize money will also help offset the lost income from the group-stage exit this year which cost the club GBP 4 million in prize money when compared to the past season. The Europa League TV pool share will give Liverpool another GBP 1 million and bring its total television income to about GBP 1.4 million.

Liverpool closing in on deal for Danny Wilson and Rangers team-mate Madjid Bougherra wants to join him

LIVERPOOL are closing in on a £2.5million deal for Danny Wilson and his Rangers team-mate Madjid Bougherra is hoping to join him at Anfield.

Wilson, 18, has only one year remaining on his contract with the SPL champions and manager Walter Smith has admitted defeat in his battle to tie him down to a new deal.

The young centre-back’s switch is likely to be confirmed when the transfer window reopens in June.

Wilson has been a major hit in Scotland this season and recently claimed both the PFA and FWA Young Player awards.

Bougherra is keen to return to the Premier League this summer and has made it clear Liverpool is his preferred destination.

The former Charlton Athletic defender is currently with the Algeria squad at a training camp in Switzerland ahead of the World Cup finals in South Africa.

His agent Farid Raayad claims Liverpool have expressed an interest in his services and if the Reds follow it up with an official approach then cash-strapped Rangers may be forced to sell.

“If a big team comes in and Rangers accept an offer for me that is destiny,” said Bougherra, who cost £2.5million from Charlton in July 2008.

Wilson has paved the way for his switch south of the border by paying tribute to the roles played by former Everton duo Smith and David Weir in his development.

Manager Smith gave him his first team debut back in October and 40-year-old defensive partner Weir has provided guidance during a dream campaign.

“I’ve already admitted I would have been happy with just one appearance this season,” he said.

“But I’ve played 24 matches, two of them being Champions League appearances, as well as making my Old Firm debut so I really couldn’t have asked for any more.

“I owe Walter Smith a great deal of gratitude as he has shown a lot of faith in me. He could have easily changed things around, moving in players from other areas of the team as opposed to playing me. But he didn’t. He showed faith in me and that was fantastic.

“Davie has also been brilliant with me. He is so calm on the field and you learn so much from training and playing beside him. Even during games, he never shouts or loses his composure.

“If you maybe get under the ball, he will wait a couple of minutes and just mention your starting position or he’ll perhaps tell you that you should have cleared the ball first time. But he is always constructive and I can’t thank him enough.”

Wilson has also played alongside Bougherra this season and is a big fan of the 27-year-old Algerian.

“Boogie is another fantastic footballer,” he said. “I like to pass the ball out from defence, but I don’t have the ability to do what he does and run forward and stuff.

“Playing with these guys and the rest of the team has been a fantastic education.”

l REDS defender Martin Skrtel is battling to prove his fitness ahead of the World Cup finals.

The Slovakia star hasn’t played since breaking his metatarsal against Unirea Urziceni in February.

“It is a proud moment for my country to have qualified and I hope to be there with them,” he said.

l LIVERPOOL keeper David Martin will sign for MK Dons when his Anfield contract expires on July 1. The 24-year-old had loan spells with Tranmere, Leeds and Derby this season.

Every club had its own history be it glamorous, inspirational, glorious, impressive or unattractive, average, below average and such....But this doesn't change the fact that every club have their own history. Just because Liverpool had one of their glorious moment in the past doesn't mean that other players around the world is not allowed to prefer other club's history. What is so funny to laugh about Arsenal's history? All Arsenal did was to climb into premier league and stay there as long as it could.

the funny thing is arsenal was not famous for their history..what arsenal famous for is their attractive gameplay & youth development nod.gif

is that part of the history?

dude, have respect for other teams if you want respect in return.
i wonder liverpool not plying in the ecl next season a glorious 'history' you want to remember?
or do you still want to live in the past glory 80's?
i guess liverpool is really 'famous' for history here.
making history every season.

u r missing the whole point..please check back my post did i ever write that arsenal didnt have history at all??..every clubs has their own history even blackpool..to make things easy for you to understand..its juz like when Fernando Torres stated one of the reason he joined liverpool coz our club was great in developing players...which everybody knew thats not what liverpool were famous for..i think thats the closest analogy i can give for you nod.gif

Former Liverpool chairman David Moores has written to The Times newspaper to express his thoughts on the current ownership situation at Anfield.

Moores sold to Tom Hicks and George Gillett in February 2007 after 16 years as chairman, but the American’s tenure has been riddled with broken promises, lies, huge debts and no new stadium. Moores remains the honorary life president of the Club but resigned from the board in June 2009 following the dismissal of former chief executive Rick Parry.

Now Moores has broken his silence over the American ownership of the club that has lead to massive debts being placed on the club – despite assurances to the contrary from Hicks and Gillett when they purchased the club. “I call upon them to stand back, accept their role in the club’s current demise, and stand aside with dignity” writes Moores in The Times.

Moores admits mistakes were made, incredibly admitting that while they looked into George Gillett’s affairs, “To a great extent, we took Tom Hicks on trust, on George’s say-so”. Yes, a multi-million pound transaction of Liverpool Football Club was done largely on ‘trust’ – when only a quick ‘google’ of Hicks found his rotten record at Corinthians in Brazil.

The full article appears in The Times on Wednesday.

It's a real shame we'll never get to see what the man is capable of achieving if he's given a proper budget to his liking. Sad to see how he's been treated. He might not have won us the league, but the way he's been pushed, it's an effing disgrace. He doesn't deserve that. No way.

never in liverpool history has manager been treated badly like rafa..even when we at the lowest in Souness era,the board still treated him with utmost respect...this is not a liverpool way of doin things..the lowest moment for me as a liverpool fanz for more than 20years! shakehead.gif
