Imo... the pl-50s are good, ADX00s are also good, how much better are ADX00s compare to pl-50s?  hmm.gif
Imo... the pl-50s are very comfortable, ADX00s are also very comfortable, how much more comfy are ADX00s compare to pl-50?  hmm.gif

AD700/ AD900 certainly do no have boomy bass compare to pl-50s.

you mean i'm just gonna keep getting poisoned? tongue.gif

well, i just want a comfy n nice sounding headphone to use when i'm in front of the pc

key point is that i can wear it n take it off instantly n constantly tongue.gif

on a side note, since i will be taking the phones off n on constantly, a closed back cans is fine too

m30 or t500 perhaps?

from what i heard, closed back = better isolation and bass right?

i hated pl-50 and m30. pl-50 was bass retarded , and m30. for me with a big ear , made me quite uncomfortable after pro longed usage.

just telling my opinion , and FYI , trust your ears. go to your nearest headphone store and try all the headphones / earphones better. went to jaben @ss15 , bought my ath-a500. never regret tongue.gif

hmm any possible ear pad modifications for the AD900? i cant seem to use my AD900 for long as i sweat a lot, and after long periods sweat will be gathering around my ear causing a lot of discomfort, and the need to open up the headphone and wipe off excess sweat is just a turn-off especially when my favorite music plays. cry.gif

Hello All

My baby AKG K701 is broken so I have an excuse to get a new headphone and I like to try something other than AKG although I love them so much.

I listen to classical, symphonies, quartets etc, so sound stage and quality are very important. I like a neutral sound, that produces sound as they should with no bias to bass or treble etc.

I have my eye on the ATH-W1000X but appreciate that expensive headphone does not mean it will suit my taste. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Many thanks!

Changing from K701 > W1000X is a big different. i guess you need to listen on this. cause the sound it may not suitable to you. W1000X is wood cup headphone and what actually sound like is natural tree sound, very nice midd and high is not bad too..suitable for rock, pop, instrument or classical. Soundstage is like a grand piano wide sound...if you want to have a listen or try you may come for this even : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1807025

bro if using more to gaming try out monitoring series like M30, M35 & M50, Pro series like Pro5v OR Pro5ms is not bad also.

*item M30, Pro5v & Pro5ms is discontinued item. Market still can get a brand new but is remaining stock.

Bro advise get ESW9 is more suitable your need...but is subject to you ear cause is limited size cause is portable. M50 is a full size but is also fun even is all balance cause is monitor headphone.

Thanks for the ideas.

I know it's a bit hard to describe, but what do you mean by different between the two? I know it's a closed can design but that's about it.

I have read quite a few comparison and some even said it is a 701 killer.

I like to try it but trouble is I am in London and I don't know where I can try.

What do you mean by grand piano wide sound stage?

Many thanks.

It's hard for 1 headphone to kill another.
Due to different sound signature, if i remember correctly based on my previous observation on both k701 and w1000x, both sounded different.

k701 is towards bright sounding and
w1000x sounded slightly warm (perhaps i prefer bright cans), and with the special effects (natural tree sound) that describe by bro Akabane, lol.

i may suggest ath-ad1000prm to you (bright sounding), smile.gif which i am currently using...
if k701 sounded like you are standing at the center of big open field, ad1000prm will sound like you are standing on the top of the hill.

k701 (big sound stage) vs ad1000prm (open refreshing air) biggrin.gif
Sorry, i am not good at describing sounds. doh.gif

Oh ya, no love for ath-ad1000prm here? thumbup.gif
Imagine standing at the top of the hill? It's so relaxing... lol, well, i am just disturbing over here.

If you prefer go for Orchestra then this will understand more. Yup is much more like a grand piano sounding and how wide it is. to get this sound, you need a proper amp to drive it up. Amp is a must for all Audio Technica Woody series. What TechMy describe is right. mostly is hard for you to accept a very different sound signature when you already adopted a AKG. Totally different.

Actually what you listen is not burn in. AD1000rpm is almost in same with AD2000. AD2000 is much more on more juices on the vocal and soundstage is more wider. But you can see the different of the price right?? it kills.

Everything is in mass in ad1000prm? May i know what kind of songs that you listening at?
I think you are referring to instrument separations, especially there's a lot of instruments playing.
Yupz, that's not ad1000prm's strength. smile.gif
Trust me, ad1000prm have it's own strength... come, for the coming gathering organized by Bro Akabane.

Took the plunge and went for W1000X.

The sound signature is really different from AKG K701, I must say for what you pay for K701, it is an excellent headphone. However the W1000X is more exciting to listen to than the K701 although bearing in mind I can buy two K701 with the price of on W1000X.

The soundstage on W1000X is good and the sound is warmer than K701. It sounds wonderful with classical music, in particular the lush sound on the cello/violin.

My only complain is the headphone feels a bit lose on the head and doesn't give a secure feeling like the K701.

All in all, I'm now an AT fan (and also AKG laugh.gif )!
