Since you asked here (Audio Technica Fan Club)... i will help other Fans answer. smile.gif

Honestly, you need to listen and test both to know which is more suitable for you.
Or at least the types of music genres you listen to, as well as the sound preference... so that the experts out there may give better suggestion. Me Noob.

Thanks for the ideas.

I know it's a bit hard to describe, but what do you mean by different between the two? I know it's a closed can design but that's about it.

I have read quite a few comparison and some even said it is a 701 killer.

I like to try it but trouble is I am in London and I don't know where I can try.

What do you mean by grand piano wide sound stage?

Many thanks.

It's hard for 1 headphone to kill another.
Due to different sound signature, if i remember correctly based on my previous observation on both k701 and w1000x, both sounded different.

k701 is towards bright sounding and
w1000x sounded slightly warm (perhaps i prefer bright cans), and with the special effects (natural tree sound) that describe by bro Akabane, lol.

i may suggest ath-ad1000prm to you (bright sounding), smile.gif which i am currently using...
if k701 sounded like you are standing at the center of big open field, ad1000prm will sound like you are standing on the top of the hill.

k701 (big sound stage) vs ad1000prm (open refreshing air) biggrin.gif
Sorry, i am not good at describing sounds. doh.gif

Oh ya, no love for ath-ad1000prm here? thumbup.gif
Imagine standing at the top of the hill? It's so relaxing... lol, well, i am just disturbing over here.

I tried ad1000prm at Jaben, still far far away from ad2000. Maybe the Jaben's can havent burn-in, but from what i remember, everything is in a mess in ad1000prm.
*
Everything is in mass in ad1000prm? May i know what kind of songs that you listening at?
I think you are referring to instrument separations, especially there's a lot of instruments playing.
Yupz, that's not ad1000prm's strength. smile.gif
Trust me, ad1000prm have it's own strength... come, for the coming gathering organized by Bro Akabane.

If you prefer go for Orchestra then this will understand more. Yup is much more like a grand piano sounding and how wide it is. to get this sound, you need a proper amp to drive it up. Amp is a must for all Audio Technica Woody series. What TechMy describe is right. mostly is hard for you to accept a very different sound signature when you already adopted a AKG. Totally different.
Bro, thanks for clarify. hope to see you in gathering.
Actually what you listen is not burn in. AD1000rpm is almost in same with AD2000. AD2000 is much more on more juices on the vocal and soundstage is more wider. But you can see the different of the price right?? it kills.
*
Anyone using the AD2000 here? any chance to test it on the coming ATH gathering?
AD1000prm is good for Vocal too, especially for the voice of sweet young girl. wub.gif tongue.gif
