No problem... I was not at Tacha either, bump into a friend in Tea-Li (Kepong). So hangout there. Next weekend I'm in KL, so yeah we can meet up. Tentative should be Sat. If you want, we can have lunch first before going tea visiting in Jln Kepong.

I am not expert in identifying real or not, but I do take this person's post as a guideline..

according to internet, since 2006, Menghai start using national standard secure sticker. The protection line should be in red color.

mind to share yours? so we can learn how to identify the real product sticker.

nice share  nod.gif  i also like shui xian alot. have to visit after CNY liao~~

i get to know Tea-Li from internet search. they selling low/mid range tea. btw, i  though selling expensive pirated tea only make money? low grade no need to fake gua.

one of my friend told me that what they doing is to speed up the fermented process. they put the tea on the high building which have very good air flow.

from time to time they pour water on the tea. and then selling you at higher prices as old tea. shakehead.gif

looks like USJ uncle selling good staff also.. what is the the cheapest thing in his shop? wakaka..so i go in buy cheap thing and cheat tea to drink.  whistling.gif
*
Most of the pirated tea out there are usually Dayi and Xiaguan cause they are branded and can command higher price compared to other brands. Small tea producer will capitalise on the profit by using these 2 brands wrapping. Tea-Li sells a lot of Dayi and Xiaguan at lower prices and probably pissed off the big boys here.

There are many ways to make a tea to ferment faster. If you are experince drinker, you can easily know once it is in your mouth. Msia tea community is very small. If there is a shop selling fakes, I can assured you it will tapau very soon cause word of mouth is very powerful here.

USJ uncle is a friendly chap. No need to buy anything also can. Just go in look see at his stuff and he probably ask you wat tea you want. If you are new to him, he probably ask you to try his 'own' brand tea which is shuang tian and it is quite a good tea.

Just sharing. For genuine Dayi tea, this is how the sticker should look like under UV light:

user posted image user posted image
But again, u probably won't carry a UV light wif u nor will the shop provide it, right? tongue.gif

Anyway, I think it's trickier to identify those produced before 2006.

Very cool. Didnt realise using UV light. I dun think I will go to the extend using this method when selecting Dayi tea. biggrin.gif
You are right on those tea before 2006. Sometimes, using the Dayi tea reference book also no use cause there are too many private orders and they are not listed in there.

Added your MSN.

Me and Chaossisxy is meeting up in Tacha (Jln Kepong - Near Carrefour) next Sat - 29/01/11. We will have lunch first then only head into Tacha. If we didn't get stuck, I think we can go visit Tea-Li or JDX

Let me know if you want to join us smile.gif

PS: Others, if want to join, fell free.

Added on January 23, 2011, 6:52 pmBtw, not all tea have expiry. Puerh, Liu Bao, Liu-An, Oolong... all mostly can keep for aging. Normally with expiry is Green tea. Those ppl normally like to drink it when it is freshly harvest.

Fake money people also can do, so Fake sticker you think people cannot copy?

I heard that 2006 and 2007 have a lot of fake cause that time it is Puerh's peak. Then it stables down in 2008 onwards (which doesn't mean don't have fake).

Tea-li and JDX carries new genuine Dayi and have yet to hear people complain of fakes. But their other products... diff story. Still have to be careful for those non branded or claimed to be older pu.

I have a friend who is Dayi expert. I am learning Dayi from him... Next time can introduce you guys to him. He is available after CNY.

Neither will I. biggrin.gif
And btw, the so-called Dayi reference book was also published by a tea trader, not officially by menghai factory.
Anyway, just sharing what I know here. The first step is always by looking at the wrapping method at the back of the cake as it's not easy to be imitated. A genuine Dayi cake normally looks like this:
user posted image
A spiral-like finishing as u can see, which is most commonly used. However there are also other variations like this:
user posted image or user posted image
But it will not look like this:
user posted image
But again, the wrapping method can also be imitated. The best way is by tasting the tea itself.

Agreed. The sticker can be imitated. Checking the sticker is only part of first step. The best way is still by tasting it. Most characteristics on the packaging of the tea can be imitated but not the quality of the tea itself.

I like that seaweed taste in the japanese green tea. Karigane -> Sencha -> Gyokuro

Their long jeng is 50g at RM380. But I think no longer fresh (or at its best performance) cause the one I bought from them isn't anymore, even it is fridge stored sad.gif So I think they try to clear it off. Greens are best to drink not long after their harvest. If they still sell at the expensive price, forget it... but if on sale, then Up2u.

Japanese Greens/ Chinese Greens hardly go by brand. If got brand is because it is being repacked by the shops or 3rd party. For Hojo, I like their Yun Feng Chinese Green Tea. It taste a bit like long jeng, but cheaper.

My 'expert' dayi friend say Menghai/Dayi has a very unique taste in all their tea. The reason is because of the water they used. The water source is from a well only located in their factory which gives the unique taste.

I have yet to drink enough menghai/dayi to be able to tell the unique taste... only time and experience will gain that... so must drink more wink.gif

I believe this unique taste is what they call 'menghai taste'.

Btw, another protection which is introduced by Dayi in its recent products, which can also be revealed by a UV light:

Previously Dayi is also known to be Menghai Factory brand...

Pu-erh cake loosening technique
http://fineteafocus.blogspot.com/2008/11/p...-technique.html

Interesting... but i'm not going to do it. By logic, steaming will degrade the quality of the tea cause of water and heat. Not to mention if the loose tea is not dried properly, you can be drinking mold shakehead.gif
