Hi everyone,

I just realised that my palm rest (right side), the edge of my mac has a gap. As in a part of it broke T_T i know its a common problem with the whites but do you think Apple will replace it for me ?

I bought my mac about 13 to 14 months ago and the cracks started appearing maybe 2-3 months ago but i never bothered because it was just a small one and i'm not in Malaysia at the moment... So, i don't know if the Korea apple store will replace it for me, plus language barrier is going to be a huge problem T_T unless i wait until i return to Malaysia in August.. T____T

Here's a picture of the crack...

@huiyin_hsu,
Am not sure if you'll be able to get it replaced since it can be considered as a "wear and tear" issue but no harm trying.

If you have ACPP, best to give them a call and make the report; explain you're in a foreign country and can't speak the language and see if they can get something done for u; and at the v least it's been reported so time is no longer the essence.

Send the Mac to any nearest Apple Authorized service center or Apple Store, refer to any certified Apple Tech. Get them to refer to "TS1964" on Apple site. They will know what to do.

oh my gosh! that would hurt very much to see a mac like dat... but it's a common problem recognize by apple, so i think you'll be able to replace the cracked case.

That article is only viewable by Apple certified technician. It's on the recall of crack topcase for MacBook.
How long you'll be in Korea?

There's no need to "check", you have to send in your MacBook in the end. Just follow my instruction and Apple will exchange the topcase for you FOC.

hey there huiyin,

i faced this problem before with my early 2006 white macbook, got it replaced as well while i was under warranty, they need to take out the entire top cover and replace a new one.

But after 2 years of using the new one, it seems the keyboard stops functioning properly. (yes, wtf @ apple’s product)

It’s a known defect in the design for the macbook, as long oyu're under warranty, there’ll be no problem in getting it replaced, and what’s more important is apple’s warranty is for worldwide IINM ??

if you do not have applecare, expect to pay around RM550 - RM600 for that replacement. So I ended up didn’t both and get myself a keyboard instead. Damn.

But about my issue, you can search at this forum. I did make a big hoo-hah on how they scratch my brand new macbook after the replacement. So, good luck!

its a known fault, where apple recognises it as a design defect. If the machine is under 3 years old, it doesnt matter if you have apple care or not. it will get replaced. hope this help smile.gif

theres a lenghty thread about this issue somewhere on this board.

I had a crack on my 4+ year old black macbook, after enough whining they eventually fixed it for me for free.

Sometimes they will... they are apple.. i work for them there in Australia.. we've got many of them changed under the program... one of the reasons why the updated the white macbook, costing apple to much money for free replacements.. lol

I guess Apple will replace it due to their policy of cracked white macbook. I think you should bring it to authorised apple store and try asking.
