It's the transmission probably not your TV. I do sometimes get these on my 42" Panny. I would think its the
transmission signal.  wink.gif

Tks, that's a relief. But then i did not notice on my old LG 42-inch HD-ready screen. Maybe it's more noticeable on the 50-inch ful HD screen.

Were you on B-yond when you had your LG? This only happened lately and I would conclude after B.yond's version upgrade. Before it was not there.
So, I still think it is the transmission not related to TV. May I suggest try playing Blu-Ray or DVD and see if it is there.
*
Yes, I was watching Byond on the LG. I tested with BD and the palyback was smooth. So most probably it was Byond. I also notice if i disable the Intelleigent Frame feature on the V20, I notice the images becomes bluring, and nearly make me nauseous. rclxub.gif

On the input taht u have beyond, make sure that under options in the tv menu u select 100Hz. That shd reduce the judder if not eliminate it. 50Hz shd not judder unless .. (see below)

There is some talk in the UK that the Pannys actually refresh 50Hz material at 60Hz. This will definately cause judder. The info was provided by Panny CS in the UK. There are various discussions abt this now in the US.

If in actual it is being refreshed at 100Hz, and the panel is doing it correctly, there shd be no judder, I can only confirm when I get the chance to play with one.
*
Err...need some help on where to find this option for adjusting the 100Hz. Appreciate if you can tell me. blush.gif

Can't help you here bro, mine's a X series.  smile.gif so, dunno if the Intelligent Frame cause image blurring as my model do not have this feature.  smile.gif
Well, I guess at the end of the day, the current settings gives good picture with clarity and you are happy with your choice, then just enjoy.  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

No problem, bro. But I think we need to really discuss and challenge Panasonic if it is an inherent design problem which has been glossed over. As anfieldude mentioned, there's a very large discussion going on in AVforums.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-tvs/...y-pan-shot.html

The users there are really up in arms with Panasonic on this issue. Maybe we should emulate them?

Added on July 22, 2010, 4:50 pmFor anybody interested, this is waht panasonic claims:

Interesting ... I don't seem to have noticed any juddering for the entire duration of the world cup and other Astro HD channels. I watched practically all the WC matches. And I do not turn on IFC due to artefacts and those are pretty obvious to me.

Is this something like flicker where some may find it obvious and others don't even notice it?
*
It's noticeable. I was watching NCIS LA on AXN HD, and I notice the blurring when the character moves. I also notice certain small pixellation. Maybe it's my eyes that need to time to adjust after migrating to a 50-inch FullHD set.

When I watch NTV7 which is SD, the moving news banner at the bottom will also sometimes get distorted. I've never notice them in my previous set. I can confirm this I read them everytime.

Well, maybe another pair of eyes is needed to really confirm this issues. I can't wait for the 250hrs to be up so that I can get it calibrated by anfieldude.

This weekend I'm going play all the BDs and see if these issues crop up or not. If not, most probably it's Byond's issue.

I emailed Panasonic and their engineer is coming to check my V20 this Sat.

I think that those of you who are having motion blur, judder, artefact problems should email Panasonic. In this way, we can get better response and solution from them.

If most of just keep quiet and just complain in the forum, I doubt Panasoic will take us seriously.

allycat,

Based on my experiences with service engineers, they will most likely blame the source. So if u can, show them that the same source on ur other display is not showing this problem.

It would help as well, if u hv a DVD player that can send out a 576i/50 signal and u hv a DVD that is indeed 50Hz. That way, they cannot blame Astro as the problem.
Tks for the advice, anfieldude.

I still have my old LG set and I can drag it out to test side by side with them. As to their service, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. In this age of internet, it's very easy to escalate a complain.

I read from AV forums that the problem you mentioned is reduced noticeably if you view with Cinema/Normal mode.

My set is always on Cinema mode. What mode were you on when you encountered the juddering problem?

It seems that the problem is with 50Hz sources as pointed out by anfieldude but there are a lot debate that's going on.

Hi PoorMan,
My set is set at Cinema mode.

If you watch History and NG HD, you'll notce these problems as there are a lot of panning scenes across terrain esp grassy fields.

If you watch dramas like NCIS LA, CSI or others, you will notice the blurring when the actors move esp when they move and turn towards you.

I don't know if it is possible to switch to 100Hz in the system maintenance menu, but I dare not try it as it may void the warranty. Any brave souls want to try it?

Let's see wait and see how the Panasonic engineer resolve these issues.

Just an update on the defects I've seen on my V20. The engineer came and saw what I meant. He needs to report to his professional member for further resolution, and will contact me again.

I'll post further updates after their professional feedback.

But seriously, doesn't anybody else seeing what I've been seeing on y V20 ie. motion blurring, judderring etc?

Allycat, I noticed the juddering only on my STD ass-throw but unable to test any other input as my DVD player kaput. Do keep us updated. Yours happened in other input or source or only ass-throw. I also noticed this problem on my old TV using CRT tech. I hope it is due to the ass-throw signal problem.

Hi Blade63,
I notice some but not so much in DVD. Compating DVD and BD sources, the defect is more noticeble for BDs.

Allycat, is there any chance that you can borrow other BD player and is your BD disc original? (sorry about asking this question)
*
Yes, it's original, bought from Amazon UK.

As for other BD player, have to look around but I don't think it's the problem. I don't see these defects when I use my Pioner with my old LG plasma.

Something to do with the PAL/NTSC signals ? I've one PAL original BD which I will try on this week, the rest mostly NTSC based BD. Amazon UK only selling PAL-based BD if not mistaken   wink.gif
NTSC or PAL? Does it apply for BD and DVD? I thought only the Regions is the important criteria. Pls enlighten.

NTSC and PAL applies to DVD (not sure about BD).
if your tv standard is PAL, and you play NTSC content (can be satellite tv show too), you'll see the juddering.
*
I checked with an AV specialist. He said Region 1 is with NTSC and Region 2 is with PAL. But both types will only give you difference in colour and contrast levels. Region 1 will have better contrast levels than Region 2 but Region 2 will give richer colurs. Both Regions will not cause motion blurr or juddering when playing back on a BD player that can play all regions.

Any experts care to comment or add to it?

allycay,

NTSC and PAL have different colour spaces. It needs to be calibrated differently. Else u will get what u r describing.

Contrast is not true, unless the player is messing up the decoding. The white point for both is the same.
*
Tks, anfieldude.

I'll consider your advice when I'm ready for your calibration.

But I think it will be very cumbersome to cater for both NTSC and PAL exactly, as this mean I've to change input when playing Region 1 or 2 BDs.

What about BDs that says all Regions? How do I handle that?

Allycat

PS: But then it doesn't explain the defects seen on Byond.

These are for DVDs.

BDs from whichever region is mastered to the HD709 colour space. So there shd be no issues.

The B.yond defects from what u hv explained seem to be inline with the problems seen in the UK for 50Hz material and it is some artefacting. I doubt there is a real fix for this at the moment.
*
Tks, anfieldude. Hopefully I have better luck with Panasonic Malaysia.

I also hope more M'sian V20 users, who are having these problems, will report to Panasonic Malaysia so that we can get better response from them. Please don't settle for a product that is not living up to its claimed performance or having noticeable defects.

Hi Allycat,

The only problem (I suspected) most of the 50" V20K owner still having new unit and may not able to produce the same problem as you mentioned (but touched wood).

NTSC and PAL also having different in input frequency (via HDMI) from the source (eg. BD, DVD etc) to the V20K, this also incl. of the source from Astro Byond (1080i/50Hz)

May be Panasonic will need to further investigate on this besides other possibility.

Good Luck !

Tks, Steadypana.

I'm also ahvig a new unit. It's only 168 hrs burn in. Let's hope there's a solution from Panasonic.

allycat,

I do not have any bd player nor disc. It will be helpful for other V series owner to help you out if you could let them know the title of the disc and which part of the movie that shows the defects. Then they may try to see if they are facing the same problem. What about the cable connection?. You used HDMI class 2? cheers
*
Tks blade63.

Already mentioned what to look for in my above posting. Byond History HD, NG HD and AXN HD. Slow panning scenes, mid to large figures moving and turning.

For BDs, look out for mid- to large figures moving and turning. Also look at panning scenes.

Cable is a good one, QED Signature. So I don't think it is the problem. But then I believe any HDMI 1.3a cable should not affect the Byond. Pls correct me if I'm mistaken.

another interesting read that concern BD player. According to this writer it is imporatant that your BD player support 24p i.e same as your TV setting of 24p.http://wesleytech.com/1080p-24p-blu-ray-judder-explained/392/

Hi Blade63,
Tks for the article. I did read it before when i encountered my problems with the V20.

Yes, my BD player supports all the full HD features incl 24p.

Going to get a second set of eyes to evaluate the V20 picture quality. Just in case my eyes are playing tricks on me rclxub.gif
