Hi Wolve. Welcome to the V20 family. I'm no sifu, but from my own research, this is what I did if it's of any help to you.

(1)btw, i did not run the video but rather copied the EA break-in slides onto my SD-card (or usb thumbdrive) and played it off the built-in slideshow on the TV. That way, I didnt have to bother running my blu-ray/dvd player running for 100 hours too. tongue.gif
Hi. Can you please give me the step-by-step method of how to engage the built-in slideshow? And does it goes on forever until you press the STOP button? I am paranoid that it will stop sometime in the middle of the night by itself and then burnt the Plasma screen. Thanks.

The only gripe I have with the 50U is that it is not a Neo-PDP panel ie it is not as bright as the 50V and the PQ is a bit washed out especially in a bright environment.

Personally, brightness is the not my concern but the reflection are. Pretty bad IMO but then some people likes reflection because I notice Sharp LCD/LED deliberately add a layer of glass to give reflection hmm.gif

on the tv's remote, press the "SD Card" button, select "Photo" and press the "Red" button to play slideshow. alternatively, u can press the "Viera Tools" button, select "Photo" and press the "Red" button. it will loop continuously until you press any button on the remote.
Thanks. I could find the burn in DVD ISO but not the slides. Nor do I have the Nero software. May I ask where did you get it?

Never mind. found it. Can not wait so i intend to just play there image on SD card for 5 days solid to get over this run in period as fast as possible. Is that a bad idea? Anyone? Thanks

was on the same boat as you. been considering the 50U or the 50V after reading good reviews about them both. but my wife will surely kill me if i buy an RM6k tv (the cheapest 50V i found in penang for RM5999).
but i find it imperative to have the anti-reflection coating in a plasma screen for daytime viewing. IMO the AR coating is well worth the premium.

searched from other makes and got offered the 50" Samsung C6500 for RM4.5k. had a side by side shootout against the 50U and 50V. in the end went with the samsung for RM1.5k less. a worthy choice IMO if you're looking for something under RM5k. better performer compared to the 50U.
try to look at the C6500 before you bring home the 50U. a seriusly underrated model.
I did managed to compare the Samsung C6500 vs the 50X (no U in that shop). I went with the Panny because:
1. I prefer the more natural colors of Panny. Others may prefer the more vivid color of Sammy.
2. I cab pick out more details in dark areas in the Panny. Sammy's dark is just that, dark. But Sammy on SD program (and even some HD) seems sharper.
3. People told me Panny are more reliable.
4. Both are reflective.

So basically, it boils down to color preference and reliability. Of course, the RM1K saving had been used to buy a top end media player. A Full HD Plasma without good media player/Bluray is pretty useless IMO smile.gif

It is ok. Just make sure you set a lower contrast and also check back occasionally to make sure the slides are still running and not stuck.

Does that mean you've gotten yourself a Panny? Which model?
*
Do they get stuck? I thought with nobody touching anything, these things go on forever.

Bro, this is based on your experience or hearsay? I'm not a fan of Sammy either but yesterday demo changed my opinion a bit. I demoed the PS63C7000 for 2 hours at 9 feet and can say the 3D is as good as panny (I demoed Panasonic VT20 50 inch an hour earlier at Harvey N). And also, the Samsung 2D->3D conversion is really a Pana 3D killer. And the shop offered me RM12.3K for the TV. You think you'd spend 23K for 65inch pana or 12K for sammy 63inch which in terms of features has more than the Pana? Some more pana gives 2 years std warranty and this shop offered 5 years for the sammy. smile.gif If only I have the cash.... well....
*
Panny not so expensive lah. Can get around RM19K but then, it's still many thousand Ringgit more expensive than Sammy. For that much different, ya, Sammy is well worth the consideration.

If awaken from standby and put into standby from remote, no clicking sound. If hard power button, then yes there is a click sound.

Well, even awaken from standby and put into standby using remote, there are very distinctive & loud "click clack" sound on my 50U. Anyone else?

Dear All brothers

Just bought my first "slim" TV replacing my 10 year old 29" CRT.

I bought the following
1. Panasonic 42" Plasma V series
2. Panasonic Home Theater ZT 2 (Wireless)
3. Panasonic Bluray BD45
IMO, there is no point upgrading from 29" CRT to 42" widescreen panel TV because the picture size not much different. If want to get, must get 50" panel. If out of budget now, wait for price to go down.

There is a point to do so... not all the ppl can afford a 50" TV (including me) So the point here it to get which ever suits our pocket. Talk about waiting, my personal experience for waiting is 'suffer'. The price of the big plasma esp. Pana will not differ to much if you are planning to wait for a year or two and the end of the day one might get dissapointed because the model might just get obselete. Talk about 29" to 42", why no difference? Size oredi bigger, viewing angle oredi different, pixel also different and finally price also different la.. just my 2 cents peasant's opinion. So, no need to worry if your Widescreen TV is smaller than others.. just be happy for what we afford to get.  biggrin.gif
*
While I never measured the 42" widescreen, I did measure the 46" widescreen and for displaying picture in 4:3 ratio (mainly SD program and not wanting to make people look fat), it is only the same size as a 33" CRT.

So for 42" vs 29" CRT on 4:3 ratio,I doubt there is much different.

I did not do calculation. I took a tape measure and decided I am not going to look at 42" widescreen. 50" the minimum.

Sometimes it's not about the size, it's the enjoyment and satisfaction smile.gif Agree about the waiting part - the price for Panasonic plasma tvs won't differ much after a year or less, but you do save some hundreds of dollars on your dream model smile.gif
*
After a year or less, you can have a 50" Full HD for the price of a present 42". Right now, a 50" HD Ready is only RM2.7K.

Saw a good offer at lowyat panasonic fair today. Rm5999 for 50in 3d full hd plasma!

Are you sure? That's unbelievably low price. Come with any 3D glasses? Warranty?

How much are they selling the 50V and 50U? Just for curiosity sake.

i went to lowyat yesterday. spent 15 minutes at the fair. didn't see any 3D deals that you were talking about. RM4399 is for the P50U20K. which is selling for below RM3.5k outside.
they were playing miami vice if i remember correctly. and true to my memory, the P50U is damn reflective. then sent my wife to IKEA and spent an hour at harvey norman ikano watching P42V20K, P50V20K, P50U20K, PS42C430, PS42C450, PS50C450 and PC50C6500 side by side.

just reassuring myself that i made a wise decision to go with the anti-reflection coating. yawn.gif
and spent 20 minutes in the demo room hearing the HN salesman talking crap about their Pioneer LX72 with Infinity speakers. they were playing me Ip Man BD china ciplak DVD (whatever that means) that are said to be 90% near BD quality. yeah like i don't have the bd at home. yawn.gif
*
Ignoring the reflectiveness, which of these models have the best picture quality to your eyes? And I would like to hear more about your view on 50U vs 50V. Thanks.

2 of my friends bought the 50U(2010 model) and the screen have very poor anti-reflective coating. I have the 2009 model which I bought at Rm5500 and I can say that although I pay more than this year U model, my screen anti-reflective coating is so much better than the 2010 U model.

I won't recommend the U model after watching it in my friends house.  Even a moderate dim room looks very reflective.  Need complete dark room to enjoy...bad.
*
Talking about bad reflection. The more expensive Sharp's LED have just as bad or even worst reflection. I don't know what was Sharp thinking of when they deliberately put a piece of glass to their LED blink.gif

I assume you are talking purely about picture quality. How does the C6500 compares with U50? And did you check out the LG also?

Guys, comparing P50U and Samsung PS50C550, which is a better buy?

I don't see why we can't discuss Samsung here. We are all adults, right?

IMO, Samsung has many things going for them, chief amongst them are cheaper price and more feature and sharper image on normal Standard Definition.

But I decided against Samsung due to the following reasons:
1. Some people said Panasonic are more reliable (no personal experience so may be just hearsay) and while they are all covered by warranty, I hate the hassle.

2. Personal color preference. Samsung are more vivid but I prefer the more natural color of Panasonic.

Not true. In fact Panny of the same range is cheaper than Sammy.

i did not realise that. I thought Sammy 6500 is the equivalent of Pana 50V and the former is cheaper. May i ark what is Sammy equivalent of Pana 50U?

50U and 50X same on reflectiveness. 50V supposed to be less but don't know how much less because I never seen it.

As my unit will only be delivered to my house this Sunday, I'd like to ask the sifu's here if there's anything that I need to watch out during the early stage. I'm a bit concern of the potential burn mark though as my family be watching Astro SD mainly for the time being before I subscribe to Astro Beyond and getting Blu-Ray at a later time.
*
From what I learned, the initial 200 -250 hours run more risk of burn in. After break in, less of a problem.

To accelerate break in, I reckon the fastest & safest way to do it is to:
1. Download break in slide from Internet
2. Copy those slides into a SD card
3. Utilize 50U's own SD card reader to read slide and leave it on continuously for 200 hrs.
