Need some recommendations for a HT system for my TV. Budget is a mere RM1k only, purpose for movies and music.

How is this? Q-Acoustics 2020 for RM999?

Maybe you can refer to here http://www.loggn.de/htpc-media-center-logi...dows-und-linux/

Note: it is german, use google translate to change it to english.

I have a MCE remote for quite a while. Does anyone know how to configure the 'home' button to start XBMC instead of Window Media Center in Windows 7 ?

The usual Event Ghost only manage to configure it to use it on XBMC. Not to start the XBMC.

matamatarahsia, here's the order of preference about the audio:

1. Best is to use HDMI for the lossless output.
2. If no HDMI, consider digital output to an Amp for decoding.
3. If still no HDMI or digital output, then only consider a soundcard for audio output to an Amp,
4. If still don't have Amp, then use only computer speakers. Thats last resort.
5. Headphone.

The E350 is more than enough to handle blueray, not too sure if it is powerful enough to handle it in 3D though.

There is virtually no difference between the E350 and E450, so don't bother spending extra on the E450. The extra .1GHz total extra would not make any difference.

Even my netbook with the C50 can handle all of my 1080p mkv's and mp4's. My other netbook runs on the E350. The E350 one is definitely faster, but graphics wise, they are nearly identical. But whichever you get, it will be sufficient for your needs. (and maybe even 3D)

Hello guys,

I'm planning to build a simple HTPC that capable of playing HD movies and also able to decode dolby digital trough my sound system.

However, my plasma tv only support up to 1024 x 768 pixels over the VGA input.

My setup will be consist of;

mobo asus p5k wifi (have optical and coaxial output)
gc ati hd4850 (2x dvi output- i'm planning to use dvi-hdmi converter)
samsung HD ready plasma tv (2x hdmi, 1 dvi, 1 vga)
power amp - old yamaha rxv2092 (1 optical, 1 coaxial input)

My question is, will I get a better resolution (720p or 1080p) if i connect my plasma to the HTPC via HDMI cable ?

Definitely you'll get better resolution via HDMI. Check the HDMI spec here.

Your Plasma is HD Ready (720p) or Full HD (1080p) screen?

my plasma is hd ready (720p)

I hope you are not confuse because I'm referring to my PC resolution, not the video resolution.

Hi all, could u check these specs for HTPC, and give recommendation for any part that needs to be changed. Usage mostly watching movies, minor gaming, and internet.

case: Silverstone GD06
processor: AMD A4-3400
motherboard: Asus F1A75M Pro (I cant find this on any of the pricelists. Is it available here and rough price)
ram: Apacer DDR3 PC1333 (2gbx2)
os: Win7HomePremium64bit
hdd: WD Blue sataIII 7200rpm 1gb
power: Seasonic M12II 620W (can this fit the case? silverstone says 150mm, which is exactly the size of the psu. will there be enough room for the cables coming out the back?)
dvdrw: LG 22x sata
tv capture card: Kworld PCI Analog TV Card Lite PVR-TV 7134SE
keyboard: Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400
wifi: I have an old USB one

Assuming we use HDMI cable from PC to LED TV, and i have a HT amplifier, do we still need to have a pair of RCA or COAXIAL cable to connect the amplifier to the PC to produce sound for my bookshelf speakers?

If i were to use coaxial or optical TOSlink and select DTS audio from the movie played from HTPC, will my HT amp be able to switch to DTS mode? (my HT amp supports DTS 5.1)

Theoretical yes, TOSlink managed to delivery 5.1 sound. RCA only stereo, HDMI will be the best if your amp can receive.
